Entries were made a few days ago and there are a few I have my eye on but of course if I mentioned them, their prices would collapse such is my influence….ah no, I’m not TAPK. But seriously, it makes for a nice change from the jumpers just before it all kicks off in a months time, the calm before the storm of Cheltenham. I wouldn’t be putting any money down but a little trawl through the entrants is a welcome relief from the miserable jumps season we’ve had.

There are plenty of fanciful entries, but betting is rendered inherently expensive because you have to cover both fast and soft-ground specialists.
With regard to the latter, Medicinal Compound is an interesting prospect.
February 13, 2011 at 22:07 #340572True enough.

Nulty of the 118 current entries, over half of them wont be rated high enough to get a run,one of them is John Gosdens
Dhaamer
,a mark of 87 leaves him no chance unfortunately as his profile suits.Another who would be suited to the race is Barry Hills
Gunner Lindley
but again off 93 he will struggle. The horse i have backed at 20/1 is
Taqleed
,i was at Nottingham the day he beat a 1/4 shot of Godolphins and backed him for the Cambridgeshire thereafter, this horse has bags of scope handles any ground and off a mark of 95 should get in nicely,i would like to think Mr Gosden is thinking of targeting him for this!
I notice he also has the fine looking Nationalism entered,he is not unlike his Expresso star who won the race a couple of years ago but i just feel he wants it knee deep and Doncaster is very rarely that soft. Watch the market closely in the next fortnight!
February 14, 2011 at 10:09 #340619Thanks TAPK but I’m aware these days of what kind of ratings are needed to get into these handicaps on the flat. Done my research since Royal Ascot last year when I was very green as regards the entries etc.
. As you can see in my previous post I have provided the rating of the lowest rated horse for each of the last 10 years along with the going description. The rating, I’m guessing will need to be at least 94 this year – 118 entries and the minimum rating has gone up as the prize money for the race increased over the past 10 years.2000 £43,761.25 4 places paid
2010 £77,887.50 7 places paidI’m not sure I’ll bother with an AP bet, I reckon the draw is too important. If I figure one of them has an outstanding chance I’ll consider it.

Wouldn’t look beyond Taqleed myself, though I’ve yet to see any 20/1.

There"s still plenty of 16/1 available reet,i have just taken it with Bet 365.Those with accounts with Blue Sq will have to take a rather short 10/1 though! I got 20/1 with my favourite bookmakers Coral a month ago, they will price you any race you like Ante-Post and are the only ones to do so. Get on!

Click the price history of Taqleed by clicking his name, since the 9th of February there has been no recognition of any 20/1 available on this horse.
He’s a serious animal and should take the Lincoln in truth, was well backed by a mate of mine for Cambridgehsire who had ridiculous amounts on at 20/1.
You’re not wrong if you’re in the Taqleed camp like myself but I’ll be waiting for anything that confirms his running in the event as he could target something much higher than the Lincoln.
February 14, 2011 at 16:58 #340652Backed my first one
Bravo Echo
1pt ew @ 33/1. Big risk as his running plans haven’t been made available but hes a different horse now after gelding op. Beat Lowther easily at Kempton last time and Lowther confirmed form this afternoon.
I have 2 others I’m interested but will wait until more info is made available
February 14, 2011 at 22:14 #340697i really fance Eton Forever for this one, still available at 16s. This is a group horse whose 3yo campaign was cut short by a slightly bizarre problem on his last run which should be discounted, he’s also been gelded too.
His maiden win over the subsequently impressive listed winner of Cumani’s, Afsare, now looks rather decent.
February 15, 2011 at 17:01 #340769NATIONALISM 20/1 Ladbrokes
Is my tip here was very poor in Cambridgeshire before the draw. was backed very heavy in the race. When he got low draw he had no chance.Next time out ran another shocker but got beaten by a group one winner in Kingsfort.Am sure Gosden can work his magic on this horse and while he has other horses enterd i hope this is number one horse for race.
February 15, 2011 at 17:22 #340771I’d be very keen on
as long as there was anything with soft in the going description, being by Celtic Swing the softer the better.
Came to hand early last year when winning the Spring Mile in decent style and only 7lbs higher on a rating of 96 meaning he should get in.
Was unlucky on at least a couple of other occasions which is always a danger given his style of running.
May prefer shorter but he travels like a dream and if he can be held on to long enough I think he could go close.
14 to 16/1 wouldn’t really tempt me at this stage though.
February 16, 2011 at 16:12 #340897Weights out today
February 16, 2011 at 16:53 #340901Kalk Bay looks to have the ideal profile (very similar prep to penitent) and is trained by the right man. He’ll probably struggle to get a run though off 92 though. Hopefully he’ll have a run in the trial at wolverhampton. I’d assume they mean business if he turns up in that.
Our Joe Mac would be interesting on soft ground. Fahey has always spoken highly of him and could be an improver as a 4yo. I see there has been a bit of money for him today as well.
February 16, 2011 at 17:33 #340910Wouldn’t look beyond Taqleed myself, though I’ve yet to see any 20/1.

I am noticing there is no 16/1 avaialable at all now on Taqleed for the Lincolns, thankfully i took it earlyer this week too,i have noticed you doing this before TAPK on the horse i like, this race is not till April.I am thinking the draw wont bother this horse as he will make all anyways.
February 17, 2011 at 13:53 #341015Agree with the sentiments regarding Taqleed.
Others on the shortlist at this stage…
Nationalism 16/1 – Bred for soft, great profile for this, forget the Cambridgeshire run from an impossible draw.
Shamali 16/1 – Lightly raced Haggas improver who knows how to win this.
Splendorinthegrass 33/1 – Another lightly raced improving type, looked very game and useful at Kempton last April but didnt race after May.
Suited And Booted 20/1 – Should go on any ground, another lightly raced improver from team Hannon.
Al Muheer 40/1 –Very
interesting relative newcomer to deadly Dandy’s yard. Ran well in the Victoria Cup and he’s slipping down the weights ever since…
Our Joe Mac 16/1 – The handicapper might have him but still lightly raced and open to improvement. A decent soft ground hedge.
Pleasant Day 25/1 – Cant make up my mind about him but his late progress in last seasons Britannia has stayed on my mind all the same.
Breakheart 25/1- Will make a very decent handicapper this season if his run in the Dubai Duty Free at Newbury last Autumn is anything to go by.February 24, 2011 at 12:28 #342011

I warned you to be a little careful with your Taqleed bets.
JOHN GOSDEN has warned punters that his William Hill Lincoln joint-favourite Taqleed is not certain to make it into the final line-up for the April 2 handicap at Doncaster.
Six of the front eight in the betting need others to come out if he is to make the final line-up with the Gosden-trained pair Nationalism and Doctor Crane the only two at the head of the betting guaranteed to make the final field of 22.
Gosden, who won the race in 2009 with Expresso Star said: "I see Taqleed is quite well fancied but he is not sure to get in. With these big, valuable handicaps you need to be rated 95 to get in
