Unaccompanied looks easily the best of our juveniles. Did that very nicely. Weld knows what it takes to win this race.
I missed the prices straight after but as I believe she should be favourite I think the 8/1 still represents reasonable value. The current favourite has plenty of pace but I could easily see her outstaying him up the hill. A much needed boost to the Irish challenge.
February 12, 2011 at 19:28 #340220THIRD INTENTION.25/1 Colin Tizzard horse is my pick for this race went really well last time but just got beat by Local Hero will turn form around and be a big player for this weak race.

Given the way Unaccompanied travelled in to the straight, I thought she was ultimately disappointing; the runner-up, beaten all of 3 lengths, didn’t improve on the weak form of his Grade 2 victory at Leopardstown and Indian Daudaie was beaten marginally further than he was by Local Hero on potentially unsuitable ground.
Grandouet has already achieved more in my eyes and Local Hero promises to be significantly better than his last run granted a stronger pace. Both, therefore, have far stronger claims than Unaccompanied and as such I’m a layer at the current price.

I suspect you have backed Grandouet. I have also backed Grandouet at 16/1 but of two I would now have a strong preference for the filly. There have to be doubts about Grandouet and how Cheltenham will suit him. He may have improved but he has already finished well beaten on the track. For me it was very hard to crab yesterday’s winner, she travelled and jumped really well and was in fact powering clear as she neared the line. Not disappointing at all.
February 27, 2011 at 20:34 #342535Anyone taken by Zarkandar’s performance in the Adonis at Kempton on Saturday? Hard not to be impressed in my opinion.Always a race that throws up a good horse too!

I can’t remember the last time they went 7-1 the field in the Triumph; it’s a far from vintage crop of juveniles this year, although something could establish itself as a clear number one here. Sam Winner looked awe-inspiring before Christmas, whilst both Unaccompanied and Zarkandar impressed last time out. I can’t have either Grandouet or A Media Luz- even if they’ve improved, they have an awful lot to find on the book. Local Hero should run well, but I’ll stick with my ante post bet on Smad Place and hope that the ground has sufficient give for him to let himself down.
March 18, 2011 at 09:22 #345916Been on Zarkandar for a while now but this looks a difficult call.
And as Francombe has just tipped Z, that’s the bet down the drain!
March 18, 2011 at 10:03 #345921I Heard from a reputable sourse that before Zarkander ran on his debut, Nicholls described him as "slow" and an implication of a possible wind and temperament problem.
Take that how you want to.
May be Zarkander is fitter now and can improve significantly on that form. On the other hand, if that is the case, wouldn’t Ruby be on him?
Am on Grandouet @ 16/1 and Sam Winner 8/1.
Hoping to save on A Media Luz.
Since the inception of the Fred Winter, I’ve backed every winner o of the Triumph with a main bet (though did lay Zaynar back, breaking even, main bet Walkon 2nd). Get on!

I have also heard that he’s less than impressive in his homework Ginger. I’d say his half sister had a far worse temperament though. He wouldn’t be the first to move like a slug at home before shining like a diamond on the racecourse. A lot of question marks against this lot. I’ll be watching Zarkandar with a lot of interest.

Looks like a brilliant cut to me.
March 18, 2011 at 13:49 #346001Get in!
One of my ante-posts comes up trumps!
Top performance – he was mightily impressive at Kempton the other week and again today at Cheltenham.March 18, 2011 at 13:55 #346003Well, my "triumphant" run had to come to an end some time. Zarkander won well, wish I hadn’t gone to that Cheltenham Preview now.
Hope my remarks about Zarkander did not put anyone off.
Just seen the re-run on RUK. Was I imagining things or did Walsh almost give up on Sam Winner at the top of the hill? Before finally asking him for maximum effort.
The horse did much better than distances suggest. Doubt if it made the difference between winning and losing though.
Value Is EverythingMarch 18, 2011 at 14:02 #346004Think that might have been a decent race. Certainly the winner, and even the second are bound to go on to better things next year. Both travelled through the race and appeared late on to battle it out.
Zarkandar is lightly raced over hurdles and is open to more improvement and, although early, is one to note for the Champion next year, he looks a cut above the usual Triumph winner.
According to Alistair Down on Ch4, the runner up Unaccompanied will go to a Listed race on the Flat, then Punchestown, and be kept for next year, which considering she’s owned by Moyglare, is interesting.March 18, 2011 at 14:03 #346006Welds filly was outstanding….
Is it just me or Nicky Hendersons seem to be blowing up when pressured applied
March 19, 2011 at 01:06 #346130What does DK have to do to get another Cheltenham winner??
March 19, 2011 at 08:00 #346151Definitely agree with comments above, see Sprinter Sacre, Spirit Son, Finians Rainbow and now Grandouet, all got there easy on the bridle, Grandouet in particular was rather outstanding how easy Barry had it, and then found nothing.
March 19, 2011 at 17:14 #346235You reckon Jacob got the ride with Nicholls knowing Walsh would never go Zarkander over Hurricane Fly?
