"Your right AP, all his posts are negative. What a sad life!! Must be all those rainy days standing with a bucket."

    Rory confuses negativity with fact.

Rory are you not breaking the house rules?

What qualifications do you have for assessing someone’s state of mind?

Not all of us go study the top equine stars and top races. We are happier keeping our eye on what goes on a little further down the scale.

You and Eq are no different from glory hunting football fans who can support nothing but Man U, Chelsea, Rangers, Celtic.

    Well said Bob…

More racing to keep the betting shops open longer hours – that is what British racing has come too.

But punter have only so much money in their pocket and recently a betting shop manager told me that constantly he sees punters coming in when the shop opens and before the first British race has taken place their pockets empty. Dogs, virtual racing and racing from other countries have taken the money from their wallets Those people will bet on anything, so let the bookmakers provide substandard entertainment for them and the british racing industry provide quality enetrtainment for those who want to bet on the real thing.

20% Win rate for the season and 20% win rate in 14 days proves you all wrong. Averaging 15.5% win ratio for past five seasons and in that time was joint champion Jockey.

His style has won him many fans because he never gives up, he is strong in the saddle. He is popular with punters and fellow jockeys alike.

He makes fewer mistakes than most riders I see around today.

Too many on this board talk through their pocket

Those at the top level should have this debate as a priority but they will wait till it is too late.

They will wit till the ship is on the rocks before they send someone up to the crows-nest.

    Equitrak

"Instructor ran appallingly toward the end of 2007 for Richard Fahey, had seven months off before running"

I would not say appallingly. Two of his 07 races he finished nearer last than first but in the other the other five races he finished nearer first than last.

    " Not exactly worthwhile news"

    Maybe not for you.

    "Vaughan’s results have been pathetic."

maybe because the animals he has been given are not as good as the owner thinks?

"Hard life being a strugggling trainer who have their staff and families to think about."

Maybe we have too many struggling trainers these days as quantity not quality rules?

Maybe we have trainers training, that would not be training if if there was more quality in the sport?

That would cut out the second-rate riders and stable staff.

That in turn would cut the breeding industry that is over producing at the moment.

And all that all that would lead to a better life for those who train, ride, the stable staff and the horses.

"It should also be noted that both races had 40 runners declared between them."

I know, and that shows us that owners are willing to run for peanuts.

Quantity not quality rears its ugly head again.

When betting I never looked at a race under a mile, in fact usually stuck to races of 1m 2f – 1m 4f.

The draw, getting out of the stalls and not dwelling a fraction of a second were part of the reason I kept clear of such races. They are little more than a lottery.

Also a jockey does not get a real chance to show off his talent in a short dash.

I did well with my betting, I would not have done so well if I had strayed into the dash-for-the-line races.

I know quite well four semi-professional gamblers and they seldom go near a sprint. Two, only when they get a good word of a horse from a particular stable.

Of course everyone to his own but I have personally not known anyone who has done well from sprint races.

On the flat I soon found that for me the most profitable was hurdles over chases, so I never bet on chasers.

That would be someone who had been asleep for 20-years AND had been interested in horseracing before they dozed off

"As far as I’m concerned any guilty of stopping a horse jockey ot trainer should be automatically warned off for life"

Is horse racing not based on horses winning races?

Treat those who go against such a structure and the integrity of whole racing world crumples.

I am not asking for capital punishment for this crime, just a sentence to fit the crime.

"Surely the welfare of the horse is under more scrutiny now than it ever was before, and certainly in racing."

The same with what goes on during an actual race, but it still does not stop jockey’s abusing the whip in a race does it? And the penalty is little more than a slap on the wrist.

how much scrutiny once that horse has left the track or the stables?

"You say you have been interested in racing for over fifty years..would people have been debating this issue 50 years ago,"

    Yes I have.

Not as much not as much, but as you see on this board like on a racetrack and in the bookies, it is not a debate that many like to get into.

Difficulty to compare the past with today for many reasons. Today it is quantity not quality. Some stables are so big that it is impossible for a trainer to get to know the animals in his care on an individual basis.

In the past there were breaks in racing because of the weather and set seasons for felt and jump. Now there is no respite with racing 363/4 days a year. Even floodlight racing. Nothing but saturation.

And as well as a slap on the wrist for whip abuse look at two recent sentences handed out. What would one need to do to get a really stiff sentence from the powers that be in racing.

British Racing has sold its soul and the first to suffer is the horse.

With Ayr going down hill and the alleged remarks of Stuart Morrison – Director of Ayr Racecouse, or indeed Ian Ferguson – Head of PR at Ayr Racecourse, that all went well maybe was not earth shattering but I am sure there was a few fingers crossed.
