Well Nulty, like you I thought he was in with a good shout as I think he’s very progressive and ran so well at Cheltenham. I’m not speaking through my pocket, I just like the horse loads, think he has a lot of guts and a great will to win. Was so disappointed that he fell but so relieved that he was OK. Anyway, all my other favourites had a bad week too – Roberto Goldback and Apt Approach to name two! At least they all live to win another day.

Rigour Back Bob looks very interesting at 14s. Its fair to say he will have trouble turning it around with Voler la Vedette but he’s won over 24 at Punchestown last year and appears to appreciate better ground. He’s not done improving and he got a rough passage at Cheltenham. He lost at least 2 or 3 lengths there and naturally used energy to get going again whereas Mourad had a very smooth passage. I’d expect there is very little between those two and Rigour Back can turn over that form. I can’t see why he’s 14/1, he’s twice the price he should be – literally. He jumps

    very

    crisply too.

The girls are the ones to beat provided Mikael is the shadow he looks to be. Thousand Stars could still be underestimated but I see too much value in Rigour Back and can’t wait for the race now.

Im with you Nulty – his jumping is very good and if it stays that way tomoro should go very well and at a good price, looks like he tries 100% every time

I will NEVER say that about any horse ever again  :x

Take nothing away from the winner but I think Roberto Goldback would have run away with it were it not for the blunder. A strange race really, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a horse unship a rider then trot away in such a manner. If he were a person, I’d call it sheepish.

Grrrrr Roberto Goldback, how could that have happened? Didn’t look like Robbie Power helped him at the last, was way off it. Was screaming at the TV, was sure he was going to win. Sooooo gutted. And then Apt Approach did exactly the same in the next chase. Also horrible to see the great Kauto Star pulled up.

and i’m having a 4th cause i want one, those utterly vintage rides where you’d think a horse can’t win and somehow gets there.

Yeah, like Beef or Salmon winning the Hennessy in 2007 – pure magic

It is too sad to see favourite horses, indeed any horses, coming to grief on good ground and hot weather. Catch Bob was another favourite of mine. Time to leave NH racing out of summer meetings, I think.

I remember seeing an interview with Milton Bradley about the Tatling and he said he had tried to retire him a few times but the old boy wasn,t having it.

Just got to correct this, Minella Four Star didn’t run in the Eider, (it was Minella Boys) nevertheless, I stand by what I posted.

Moehat, re Minella Four Star. Don’t know how the owners are feeling, they were certainly pleased when he won the Midlands National and they should have (imo) given him a break; they did say they fancied running him in next year’s GN. They would be feeling a lot better now if they had given him a break. far too much far too close together. Those aren’t false allegations, just common sense.

Minella Four Star, as I have said on Memorials, am so gutted about this and imo this horse has been run to death, too many long, hard races over too short a space of time and pu in two of them. Don’t know what David Pipe is thinking about. How owners can do this to a horse I don’t know and certainly cannot understand, especially after his great win at Uttoxeter. Should have wrapped it up for the season and let the horse enjoy a well earned break. Woeful.

Absolutely gutted about Minella Four Star and imo has been ridden to death, the Eider, Midlands National and the Scottish Grand National, it’s far too much to expect, all within weeks of each other. What is David Pipe thinking of?

Well if the whip is banned the sport will never be the same again. I couldnt disagree with you more. It will be a terrible error to remove it form the game. From my own perspective as a punter I would no longer bet on racing. Hands and heels is not sufficient for all horses and never will be.

Well Fitzer, I would think that if all jockeys didn’t have a whip to use they would all be on equal terms so the end result would be the same, and so there would be no reason why you could no longer bet on racing.

Maybe J Maguire doesn’t realise he’s going overboard with the whip, after one ban and nearly not being able to ride Peddlars Cross to this, well, either that or he’s taking a few too many chances.
