Nice to see the old boy come with a late charge on Monday @ Wolves in a race worth a measly 1.5k to finish second. You have to admire that the horse is still running at the age of 14!!
127 lifetime runs and over 250k in prize money over the years, the Tatling is a former group 2 winner and had his first race way back in the May 2000.
Does anybody know of any other "old" horses in training??
March 22, 2011 at 23:19 #346831He’s won £682,500 actually. I like how they’ve been saying they want him to have one last win before retiring him but they (for the most part) aren’t doing it by entering him in dog rough Sellers.
I find it incredible that at 14 he seems to be such a willing participant.
March 23, 2011 at 12:03 #346875Thought he’d actually retired. If he ever runs at Nottingham could someone point it out to me as I would very much like to go over there to see him. [or Southwell]
April 21, 2011 at 06:20 #351350Looked the best in running at bath the other night there back on turf but couldnt get a clear run.I hope he picks up a small race soon and can finally retire away to a field somewhere which is more than he deserves. 14 years young and still getting right in and about it…..ANIMAL!!

He’s in the 4 day decs for the 6.30 pm at Nottm on Sat 23 April.
Amazing he was still prepared to give it a go on firm ground at Bath last time out (no watering facilities there) given his age and miles on the clock.
April 21, 2011 at 13:44 #351401I thought he had actually retired this week; are they trying to go out on a high? Will keep my eyes on the race and, if he does run will try to get over there to see it. Thanks for letting me know.
April 21, 2011 at 13:59 #351404Still seems keen to put his all in but lets hope he can land that elusive ‘last win’ and be sent off for a long and happy retirement. Unless of course he is one of them that couldn’t handle retirement (we all have a relative or 2 like that

Disappointment for you I’m afraid- the gelding is not declared for that race
April 21, 2011 at 18:55 #351449I’m going to get criticised to bits for saying this, but part of me wishes they’d keep him in training just to see how long he could go on for.
Although that Bath race did give me a little understanding of what people mean by ‘dross’ Younger horses running as fast they can & there’s The Tatling basically going out for an evening jog.
April 21, 2011 at 19:49 #351461I have to agree with you on that, I think..if he could talk I think he would agree with you as well.

Excellent

The horse seemed to me to be loving the job so surely it’d be wrong to deny the horse the Trip to the races. Be nice if he gathered a win or two through the summer. To that end, I’d like to see the old boy run on a straight 5f/6f rather than round the bends on the polytrack or at bath or brighton where he seems to have been appearing of late. Maybe Milton is lining it up for one last coup lol
April 23, 2011 at 20:28 #351845I remember seeing an interview with Milton Bradley about the Tatling and he said he had tried to retire him a few times but the old boy wasn,t having it.

If I remember rightly, I think he said something along the lines of the horse kicking seven bells out of his stable.

Superb comment!
He’s not being retired just yet he should be running for the rest of this season at least and is still loving the game so why not!
Ran ok a folkestone the other day-track does not suit him though.
Will update on here when next declared to run.
June 8, 2011 at 09:36 #359525Please do that, especially if he runs at Nottingham, as I could get to see him there. If ever he does retire
I’d like to see him in a field with Lough Derg ‘talking’ about old times..’remember when…ah yes, but, old boy, much better to run them ragged from the start not wait at the back…I know, lets run round the field about twenty times, catch me if you can….’. [sigh]
June 8, 2011 at 11:04 #359538Where, does the name "The Tatling" come from and what does it mean?
Is it a place somewhere? (I know there is a Tatling End.)
Regards
June 8, 2011 at 14:05 #359565He’s been declared today to run at Brighton on Tuesday (6pm)
