I know all the Bob Back horses that are still in training, as I am a bit of an anorak on them, and I take on board all the comments made. I didn’t watch the race and I certainly won’t be watching it now, but by the comments I,m reading it sounds like downright very bad luck and as I have said, Burton Port had a great jumping record. Still doesn’t help the horrible way I feel today

It’s not that he wasn’t up to it, he just didn’t seem to be enjoying it. But maybe that’s just me, I have a very big soft spot for all the Bob Back horses and I’m just so sad to know that Burton Port won’t get the retirement he so deserved.
I just saw the results of this race and immediately came to this site and was horrified to see Burton Port’s n name.
I agree with Rubilight and Moehat.
I am surprised that he was kept in training as he has been showing signs that he has lost form and/or interest apart from his second in the 365 at the back end of last season.
I cannot say how gutted and saddened I am.
For the great hero that AP McCoy is and for the amount that he is celebrated, he should have known to pull Burton Port up.
So sad that he can’t enjoy a very, very happy retirement.
Havent’ checked, but I am sure that he hadn’t fallen before. Just gutted and sickened.I don’t do flat work in the sand school with him BECAUSE he doesn’t enjoy it. I don’t do dressage with him either, we jump and hack, that’s it.
Kauto Star is not enjoying this. I know that because my horse doesn’t enjoy it either and displays the same behaviour. He will become sour before they know what’s hit them, that’s if he isn’t sour already. I agree with Moehat that Clive Smith wants the best for his horse, but he clearly doesn’t realise that his horse is not happy at the moment. Nothing wrong with low key showjumping or working hunter and he’d probably love it – KS that is, not Clive Smith lol
Didn’t look to me like he was enjoying himself, but he’s tolerant enough, if not forward going. Couldn’t believe my eyes watching the riding, all that moving around and yanking at his mouth.

Agree with BH there are some races that are just not worth the time analysing to death. This is one of them.Couldn’t agree more. Still haven’t watched the race, heard the result and that was enough. Bog standard handicappers first and second in the blue riband of NH racing – what next?
In his blog, Barry Geraghty said that he thought he got the ground wrong, said he felt that Bobs Worth didn’t like the ground. Something wasn’t right, that’s for sure.
Haven’t seen it, don’t want to see it – what the **** happened? That’s racing I suppose is the answer as usual.

Good for you. Who do you think provides most of the prize money for owners?
Look, there’s no need to be sarcastic – we all know about prize money. Simply putting my point forward that an owner has the right to withdraw his horse just as anyone has the right to take the risk in placing ante post bets.
I don’t believe him nor do I disbelieve TTT’s owner.
If I were the owner of a racehorse I wouldn’t care less what punters thought, I would do what I wanted to do, as is my right as the owner of a horse.
If punters want to make ante post bets then that too is their right and their risk."I strongly suspect that after a chat with the trainer, the owner reached the conclusion that TTT had little chance at Cheltenham anyway."
Don’t buy that one, TTT has as much chance as anything else at Cheltenham, nothing is written in stone until the race is run and won.
I do not understand why horses are made to go chasing when they show no aptitude for it. It is cruel in my opinion. And the ground was little more than a bog today. I’m disgusted.
Bob Back
My favourite sire. He won most of his races in Italy but in England he beat Pebbles and Commanche Run at Royal Ascot in 1985 and went on to be one of the top national hunt sires, producing top horses right up until he retired.
Last year he would have run in January (this year really but last season) but wasn’t right – according to the trainer. I would love to see Bobs Worth running every month but then he wouldn’t be winning ….. take your pick.

Nicky Henderson has said time and again that Bobs Worth is small and not the most robust horse he has trained. BW puts in all he’s got and takes time to recover. Why should he run more? Doesn’t make any sense at all.
Hear, hear! Fantastic horse, super talented. Another few yards and result would have been different. Such a strong finish carrying so much more weight – amazing.
