I’m sure Steve will have a few choice words to say about that timefigure. For me, Without Parole looks like he may have the potential to be a real top class miler. The English Guineas might come too soon for him, but I see that he is one of the 26 left in this morning, so hopefully he’s come out of Yarmouth well and is allowed to take his chance.
I certainly hope he hoses up this afternoon, Joni. This year’s Guineas is in dire need of an exciting wildcard in my opinion.
Without Parole runs in a mile novices race at Yarmouth today, presumably ruling him out of the Guineas. I can see he has a Dante entry which suggests that the Derby is being considered for him, but his pedigree would certainly suggest he should be more of a miler so I’m a little confused.
At the prices I like Nawassi in the Nell Gwyn today. She’s been relatively weak in the betting since firms started offering prices and currently trades at 11/1. To me that appears value, as she impressed me when winning her maiden at the same course and is up against a bunch of similarly unproven types today.
Straight lay of Might Bite I’d say.
Blimey O’Reilly, the king of the flat is back!
@Kwadan I would think it very likely that Heffernan will take the number 1 Ballydoyle ride (whichever horse they deem it to be), and I would also think Dettori will be in the mix to take one of their rides. Donnacha I reckon gets the third choice.
The more prize money for our big races the better. British flat racing has to compete on an international stage, and too often falls back on the ‘prestige’ argument to make up for its financial shortcomings relative to other leading racing nations.
I’ve purcashed Timeform’s Horses to Follow for the past few years and have found it useful for discovering horses I might’ve otherwise passed over. It’s definitely not going to make you rich, but it’s something good to stick in the bog for some light reading.
I’ve also ordered the Taplin book based on the above recommendation. As David mentions, I’m not someone who always has time to do extensive video study, so I like reading other people’s research (including that of Steve et al on here).
Good shout Steve, I’ve followed you in here.
The older milers division looks incredibly weak this year and as I said in the other thread it looks highly doubtful that Winx will be coming over (Paddy Power just pushed her out to 4/1 for the QA). Unless a handicapper takes a big leap forward before Ascot I can’t see many viable threats for this race.
It seems increasingly unlikely that Winx will ever travel outside of Australia which I guess means she’ll keep mopping up weak G1s down under. It’s the owner’s prerogative to do what they like with their horse, but she surely has nothing left to prove in Australia. Ultimately now they either choose to pursue sporting glory or easy prize money.
Annie Power must be due to have that Camelot foal pretty imminently. It will be interesting to see whether Ricci decides to campaign it on the flat initially, or whether it will be kept as a pure jumper (my guess would be the former).
@GoldenMiller
Sky Bet are effectively giving you a free hit in the Ballymore and you’re using it on an 8/11 shot? Can’t say I understand your logic there.
You look very poor.
I think PP have got this wrong and have followed you in, Steve. I’d imagine their price will shorten later in the week.
Cliffs of Dover is a horse I’ve been waiting to return for ages now, and who I’ve backed for both the County and Champion Hurdles. However, I would be highly doubtful that he will show up for the Kingwell as the ground will almost certainly be heavy or thereabouts. With this horse clearly wanting good ground, I wonder if Nicholls is going to run out of time to find him a prep race before the Fez.
Pocket-talking morons who come out chastising jockeys after they’ve lost a bet are the worst people associated with racing.
I’m quite surprised at the negativity being expressed here. In my opinion racing needs more of these ‘super’ races as they’re exactly what will help attract the wider public’s attention. Jumps racing desperately needs to do something similar mid-season.
