57 doesn’t include the 6lb penalty – he effectively runs off 63 in the race. 3 year olds get a 9lb wfa allowance at this trip at this time, so that is how he ends up with this weight relative to his elders – (1lb less than Summer Bounty who is rated 53)
Lee
I didn’t realise that, but it still doesn’t excuse Smith’s actions imo – some of the finishes we are talking about have been so close that you would need to look at the photo/still for at least 30 seconds or so before coming to a definite decision one way or the other. We aren’t talking heads and necks here – more nostril hairs….
I thought it was one of Tom’s better articles
Coupling is the most stupid concept. If you are worried about team tactics then just simply back them both – same effect as coupling but doesnt remove the element of choice for other punters.
Why did he "genuinely deserve" the money?
Maybe you should try backing at bigger prices DJ – just a thought

AP – is the £500 in addition to travelling/staff expenses? If not then I’m not sure it would be worth the effort for a lot of horses/connections?
Will he want soft ground though DJ?
Unlucky my foot…
Sakhee’s Secret will beat Dutch Art again at Haydock – he had plenty in hand and there is more improvement to come.
Easy – very good horse indeed
Sakhee’s Secret for me – looks like a champion waiting to happen .
How would you price up a rematch between Authorized, Notnowcato and George Washington at 10f on ground just on the soft side of good (i.e. similar to yesterday) and on a course where no track bias was likely?
Interesting one
I would go around Authorized 6/4, Notnowcato 2/1, George 9/4 (is he starting to really "dog it" now?) ~ although I am sure that if they did meet under such circumstances, the market would make Authorized and GW shorter – oh how we love "unlucky" losers…..
I certainly wouldn’t write off Authorized. Indeed his performance yesterday strongly suggests that he will be up to winning at this level.
However, it also suggested that he perhaps isn’t the reincarnation of Pegasus that some thought after Epsom.
Is it fair to say you’d be a Jolly Layer (before the race, if not necessarily after it), tdk?
LOL – yes. Happy days.
It is hard to knock Authorized as a horse, but tomorrow is a much bigger test for him. So many 3yos who have looked exceptional against their own age group come unstuck when taking on the older horses. I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole at the price.
Part 2: Specific Standards to be observed by Jockeys, Master Jockeys’ Valets and Master Valets’ Assistants.
• Avoid associating or communicating directly or indirectly with Betting Organisations or with any person representing a Betting Organisation on or from a racecourse.
What if a horse’s owner is a bookmaker or involved with a Betting Organisation? Are jockeys not allowed to talk to them in this instance?
Agree with Maxilon’s sentiments
Southwell AW has probably been my favourite track in betting terms over the last few years. Anyone saying it is unpredictable and a bookies benefit hasn’t spent enough time watching it imo (banded racing apart)
As others have noted, it is has also always been a friendly venue, with damn fine pork rolls…
