I wonder what they had to fill those two pages with if Laverock would have won the King George……
Atlantic Sport looked the pick of the paddock for me because of his extra size but Aqlaam was not far behind, he is a good looker. I think the first three are all nice colts and that Maiden will look like a Group 3 come the end of October.
NickI totally agree with the consensus of opinion regarding Dave Smith. E.g., at Ascot last Saturday he called River Tiber of Luca Cumani’s the winner over Gary Moore’s Waterside – because he didn’t call for a photograph, no prints were displayed around the place but there could only have been the width of a cigarette in it. Does this egomaniac not realise that punter’s confidence is paramount in horse racing? Regardless of whether he gets it right every time or not (and he is bound to make another mistake soon enough) those watching are entitled to view the still when the winning distance is a head or closer – the judge must be correct and BE SEEN to be correct. This man’s ego is putting my confidence in the correct result being called in doubt and that is enough to justify his immediate removal from all judging duties.
The racing manager (what do clerks of the course actually do these days, then?) has given the going as Soft, waterlogged in places. He has then spoken to Ceefax and said that if the meeting is abandoned it won’t be because of the condition of the course but that of the surrounds. Contradictory or what?
If you like David.
Nick Mordin is an absolute fraudster – Frankie and McCoy’s autobiography give little insight into their real world – unlike, say, what Steve Claridge’s book did into football and Simon Hughes’s to cricket. The channel 4 book of Racing reads like a guide for idiots. You redeem yourself in my eyes by selecting the excellent pair Horsetrader and A Long Time Gone.
I stand by original comment. SOME right crap amongst that lot.I have always considered that given a better ride at Epsom Peeping Fawn might just have beaten Light Shift; she used up so much energy in closing the winner down in such a short space of time. I also think she might just have improved a little more since Epsom than Henry Cecil’s filly, who looked as fit as a butchers dog in the paddock that day whereas Peeping Fawn hadn’t quite come into the peak of condition. For all that, there is not that much between them, and how the cards are played during the course of a race could well determine who comes out on top were they to meet again. I think they are two well above-average fillies’ classic winners.
Some right crap amongst that lot. The two best racing books I’ve ever read are
"Emperors of the Turf" by Jamie Reid
and
The Druid’s Lodge Confederacy by Paul Mathieu.[
My fancy for the race would be Maraahel – a typical Sir Michael Stoute improver.
lmao at that, I don’t think even Stoutey himself would claim that good old Maraahel is an "improver".
*FIN*
I know how it feels to leave a few hundred ‘squid behind at Worcester racecourse.
VG Aranalde.

We ‘older women’ aren’t all glued to Deal or no Deal, or Richard and Judy of an afternoon. Some of us get our kicks from the gee gees!
Channel Four – the older woman’s choice.
Marcus Tregoning?
First – How can someone comment on atmosphere if they’ve never been there???!!
Second – what’s this rubbish about "NH" horses and "Flat" horses – They are just horses – and Turbo Linn is a smart one. Why complicate things?[
A very good question, and I’m surprised you haven’t received any replies.
A 75 rated 5yo would invariably be better than a 75 rated 3yo, but for its class more than any other consideration. What?
Depending on the distance and the time of year, most 3yo going into all-age races are going up in class, and a 3yo, say for instance winning a 12f 3yo hcp off top weight of 75, and then entered in, say, an all aged 0-80 12f hcp at the end of June, would in fact be meeting horses some 20lbs better than he met in his previous race.(14lbs w.f.a. + notional 6lb penalty).
While the w.f.a scale is designed to compensate for the age difference, it doesn’t make a horse run faster, Yes it does! and in cases such as the above, it will be meeting much better/faster horses (in an all-aged similarly graded race).
A case in point is Saturday’s Eclipse. Though Authorised had won gp1’s at 2 and 3yo, he was still meeting horses ostensibly 11lb better than any he had met before, and though receiving a commensurate weight allowance, he was still likely to be asked to run faster/better at some stage of the race.
Maybe that’s why 3yo’s don’t run so well in the Eclipse, unless they’re truly exceptional or, like Oratorio, they drop on poor/disappointing older horses.
A further example, (Just to stir up the natives
), would be Detroit City’s much heralded fast-time win in the Triumph Hurdle, a feat he was unable to replicate against better/faster horses in the following seasons all-aged Champion Hurdle. But he could in the Greatwood!
It is certainly worth bearing in ming when backing 3yo first time in all-age races, and the greater the distance the greater the class leap, so doubly important from hereon in. What???!!Reet Hard – with all due respect – that was the biggest load of tripe I’ve read in my life.
Rose Davidson NH & Danielle Mccreery Flat (Danielles record on Cripsey Brook is only bettered by KIM TINKLER!
This is sarcasm, right? Please tell me it’s sarcasm.
I’m sure that is the first time on this forum that the words "different gravy" have been used in two entirely seperate posts, and to convey very differnet meanings, in such a short space of time. I’ll stick my neck on the block and say in any forum. Actually in any print form. Ever.
