Draw 130
Australia 70PP – M.Clarke
Good stuff Mike except that you’ve got it completely wrong about Henrik Stenson who is renowned for his good sense of humour.
Also hope you are wrong about Sergio as I’ve backed him but you probably aren’t.

Those are my six selections that I have bet on to win which is why I said they should be ignored as I’m unlikely to back the winner of the Open

Obviously hypercritical of the aussies to complain about bad sportsmanship regarding the time wasting but two wrongs do not make a right – if a team can’t win in any sport without reverting to ‘ cheating ‘ then where is the satisfaction of gaining victory when neutrals will have no respect for them or feel envious of them ?
I suspect that Spectrum did not expect serious answers to his post but here are my six to ignore in this year’s Open –
Sergio Garcia
Anthony Kim
Graeme McDowell
Sean O’Hair
Henrik Stenson
Nick Watney
Good luck to everybody

I’ll join in for a bit of fun……I can’t do much worse than the soccer scores comp !
One of my friends loves cricket so I may seek his advice

PC,
The draw is made as follows :
Seeds 1 and 2 are placed in opposite halves of the draw.
Seeds 3 and 4 are then drawn from the hat, so Murray could have been against Nadal or Federer.
Likewise seeds 5 to 8 are then drawn randomly into the various quarters.
It’s done that way because the rankings at the top rarely change, so it avoids every tournament having the same pairings. E.g. if 1 always played 4, then Nadal and Djokovic would be facing each other with monotonous regularity, ditto Federer and Murray.
Never realised that so thanks for clearing it up – I just assumed seed 1 always played seed 3 at Wimbledon because it was the way it was this year.Venus’s knee doesn’t look much of a problem judging by her performance today against Ana Ivanovic who sadly had to give up and withdraw due to an injury which made her very upset – shame as she seems like a genuinely nice woman whenever I see her being interviewed.
Trust me to say yesterday that Wozniacki was impressive as she went out in 2 sets today….good thing I do not bet on tennis

Caroline Wozniacki impressed in the way she despatched the thoroughly detestable Maria Kirilenko, so I’ve had a small interest in her at 12/1.
The one thing that has really struck me this year, particularly with the women, is how much attention is being given to physical development. The likes of Serena Williams and Dinara Safina are obvious cases, but others such as Sam Stosur and Gisela Dulko look in incredible shape.
Just wondering what is so detestable about Maria Kirilenko?
I also thought that Caroline Wozniacki was impressive in her victory and looks a future Grand Slam winner in the making in my opinion.
Ana Ivanocic showed a return to form last week and I’ll be hoping the momentum will contine with a victory over Venus tomorrow but it will be difficult.
One of the Williams sisters should win the title but I would really like to see a first Wimbledon win for one of the other players.I’m a bit puzzled with the draw – The original seedings were Nadal, Federer, Murray, Djokovic.
Surely the philosophy of seeding should mean that the top seed recieves (in theory) the easiest semi-final match, ie against seed number 4, and 2 play 3. Similar to the football league play-offs.
I am therefore baffled as to how Murray has found himself in (what was) Nadals half of the draw.
Can anyone confirm?
Doesn’t work like the league play offs but I can understand your reasoning about why it should.
At Wimbledon, the number 1 seed is set to meet the number 3 if both reach semis’s and the same logic applies for the numbers 2 and 4 seeds.
Excellent post by Onthesteal who is right. So is Bob Wharton and Zarkava with their posts.
I expected better from this forum than some of the moronic comments on here. What would be the reaction if Claire Balding died of her present illness and sick jokes were posted on here including some with references to her sexuality. Would it be acceptable? If the answer is yes then I despair. If the answer is no then why is it acceptable for sick jokes to be made about Michael Jackson?
Some things in life are not funny and child abuse is one of them. I have not suffered from it and neither have any of my friends to my knowledge but it can devastate the victims of it and ruin their lives.
Anybody who makes so called jokes about child abuse or laughs at a joke about child abuse is an insensitive, shallow, immature twat.
I am not a fan of Michael Jackson’s music and do not have any of his albums. If one of his songs is played on the radio then I don’t turn it off but I don’t turn the volume up either. He was massive in the early 80’s. He was an icon and one of the superstars of the music industry.
As for him being a genius? I think of geniuses to be very intelligent people such as Albert Einstein or Stephen Hawking and not musicians or painters etc but it’s all subjective.
I’ll watch most sports and every year I’m tempted to give Wimbledon a chance. But before I even get near the thing, I am bombarded with Henman/Murray chat. Will he win? Won’t he win? Maybe he’ll win? I don’t care. Even on the days he isn’t playing, we get to watch him practice, pick his nose or eat his breakfast.
So in the end, I retreat into my anti-tennis prejudice and go do something else instead. It is a shame, because Wimbledon would have filled that little gap before the Ashes starts.
The bottom line, people: tennis is dull enough without bringing nationality into it.
I think it fair to say that cricket has a much bigger repuation of being a dull sport than tennis has but it’s all a matter of individual taste of course.
I can understand the annoyance with the Henman/Murray hype though and it totally bores me . I dislike Murray so I want him to lose but I had nothing against Henman but was glad when he got eliminated so I could then see more tennis.
I remember a few years ago ( before I had the red button to press ) when BBC1 and BBC 2 regularly both showed Henman when he was playing even though there were some other top games being played.
There was another time when the BBC showed Henman practising and then did an interview with Henman and then chatted with the people on Henman hill…….all this went on at the same time a Ladies QF match was being played but was not being broadcast
However I have never lived in another country outside the UK so maybe all the hype is the same for Nadal in Spain and for Hewitt in Australia etc?
RUK for £20 per month – no way will I pay that unless I can do it from Nov to March only but they may put a 12 month min contract on it as mentioned by mulls.
I’m off to cancel my d/debit now.
