Musselburgh and Kelso are my local tracks but also enjoy a jaunt to York for the Ebor meeting. Have not managed further South than that yet, well excpet for the Southern Hemisphere and the Gold Coast track in Australia. Absolutely brilliant !

    Bulwark,

Suggest you take heed of Sal’s post. When she gets mad she is almost never wrong which suggests in this case that you might be !

You are in danger of snatching Jackane’s crown as the "Most blinded my enthusiasm that they’ve lost all sense of reality" forumite.

History tells us it’s just never as simple as the impressive Dewhurt winner and impressive RPT winner (albeit bred for the job) being the only 2 contenders for the Epsom Derby with 8 months to go. It will be a pleasant surprise if both colts make it to the race with their reputations intact let alone fight out the finish !

I wouldnt worry anyway, the ground will be bottomless and he won’t run. Bolger hasn’t put a foot wrong with him so far so even if it was dry and he did run I would be happy to put some faith in the trainer’s decisions.

I thought it suspicious that a thread on books should achieve 5 pages in such a short time – there’s just not that many good racing books !

Surely the gratest rogue of the last 10-12 years is the mighty Harwell Lad closesly followed by Challenger Du Luc. Imagine those two in a match race !

    Here’s one.

Israel to be shutdown forthwith and the population moved lock stock to the USA so they can all be buddies together.

Here’s another, and this one will solve many issues worldwide, not just the middle east.

Religion (that is ALL religions) to be accepted as the pish and nonsense that they clearly all are. There is no God, no Jesus, no Allah, no Mohammed, no Buddah, no Jehovah, no catholics, no protestants, no christians, no jews, no muslims, no hindus, no scientology etc etc whoever you worship doesnt exist and never did in the form you were led to believe. Get over it, there is only the measurable scientific world, life and death. Once you die, your dead, you’re not going to heaven, not going to an afterlife to be seviced by virgins and nymphs, neither are you going to hell so don’t worry about that.

Religion has been invented by a weak minded human race to help them cope with the harsh realities of life. It’s a mere placebo.

Religion consigned to the dustbin = a more harmonious world. OK, you would still get the odd cross border scuffle but at least that is black and white not the blur that is religious conflict.

Ah, I feel better having solved the problems of the world in the space of 10 mins.

I can help you there Aranalde.

A "bawbag" is the scottish colloquialism for "Scrotum".

No idea what a Scatmuncher is but it sounds suitably nasty.

Where is the "all of the above" option ?

If you tick "other" do you have to quote what "other" you’re opting for ?

Did I see 66/1 about Henrik Larsson ? Thats got to be tempting. With Ibrahimovic, Kallstrom and Ljungberg supplying the ammo and Henrik’s knack for heading goals from set plays he must have a squeak.

The opposition are nothing to worry about for the first 4 games – T & T, Paraguay, England then presumably either Germany or Poland. Trinidad and Tobago are cannon fodder, England & Sweden could take 6 or more goals off them with the strikers getting the majority. If you can get two or three in one game then you only need maybe 3 more to win it. On top of that, the Swedes scored 30 in qualifying so they are a team that creates chances.

Quote: from insomniac on 7:18 pm on May 23, 2006[br]Jamie – beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But surely you’d be able to raise your game for Charlie Dimmock? A strapping wench who’d also be able to build your desert island hut for you and tend the vegetable plot / allotment.

Gillian MckEith – well, granted, she’s no looker, but I’d give her one just to prove I’m not sexist. <br>

Well, you’re a better man than me ! By all means make use Dimmock’s horticultural talents but concentrate your affections on Nigella.

All this talk of real women, if thats what you want why not just take Bella Emberg and Carol Thatcher and be done with it.

    Insomniac,

Where on a desert island would you find a sufficient supply of brown paper bags  to place over the heads of the hideous Dimmock and McKeith ?

Surely you can’t seriously suggest you would wish to look at them as you did the deed ?

You’re sick in the head man.

Harwell Lad was a complete nut job but so much ability. I backed him when he won the Whitbread (16/1 if I remember correctly) and he was actually brave as a lion that day with 3 in line, tight for room coming to the 2nd last. I was terrified he was going to refuse at the last but he knuckled down and got the job done. Not bad for a dirty dog !!

My favourites over the years have been Dato Star jumps wise and Bosra Sham on the flat.

Dato was totally overshadowed by Istabraq but if the Champion Hurdle had been run at Haydock on soft ground with Dato in peak form he would have routed the great horse ! Sadly Dato Star at his best was a rare event, jinxed by injury and an inability to go on any kind of sound surface.

Another dodgy character I had great fondness for was Poppy Carew trained by Peter Harris. She had such a nice cute name but was the bitch from hell when she was in a strop (which was quite often). Had plenty of ability though well up to listed class and is now a broodmare. I believe she is the mother of Mad Carew !! Say no more.
