Ok, so he’s not strictly a band but he’s fantastic. Everyone go and buy Willy Mason’s album "Where the humans eat". Play it once and you think that was different, play it a second time and you begin to get it, play it a third time and the penny drops, it’s brilliant and you can’t get enough of it. Apparently he’s really young but his lyrics and voice are that of an old timer !

If you like ‘Round Ireland with a fridge’ then you’ll get a good laugh at ‘Playing the Moldovans at tennis’ by the same author. He has another book called ‘One hit wonderland’ but in my opinion it’s not quite so good.

    Have to agree with ALI.

Marco Antonio Barrera vs Erik Morales 4 years ago was totally awesome. Round 5 was, perhaps, the most amazing 3 minutes of sport I’ve seen. Sadly but probably inevitably, the rematch was not remotely as good. Rather irritatingly the judges got both fights wrong as well, Barrera should have been the winner first time but lost, however, he was given the decision 2nd time when he genuinely did lose. Only in boxing

This one is easy, Lammtarra’s win in 1995. I was working in Ladbrokes, my first job, and had backed Lammtarra at 33/1 ante-post. A phenomenal burst in the last 2 furlongs landed the win.

I love watching the footage of Troy, I was only a baby at the time but visually he was a spectacular winner. He looked like he could gallop all day and night the way he devoured the final furlong.

For the remaining non believers out there Postmark award Rooster booster a higher rating than Istabraq achieved in winning any of his champion Hurdles. This may not have been a vintage champion but he was a vintage winner.

Great stuff, its like a tennis match.

Ian Davies came up with a big serve but Redman pulled off a miracle return, firing it down the line,it looks a clean winner, can Davies reach it, he’s scampering to get there, can he haul himself back into the rally ? He whips a running forehand cross court and it’s Redman’s turn to chase.

Dead right Raymondo, you always just have to play the next race. Do not play it before bedtime or you’ll never get there. Its a really good game, certainly the best jockey sim I’ve ever seen.

Wasn’t there one called ‘Wear the Fox Hat’ or something similar or was that one that got nailed the beaurocrats. Don’t suppose Pheasant Plucker got through either !

I don’t think Thommo’s that bad. He is a very good broadcaster at least. He may not be as knowledgeable as Jim McGrath or stir up any controversy like McCririck or Francome but he is comfortable in front of the camera and basically ‘presents’ well. Some of the others are awful at presenting but are quite good at summarising races/horses. Thommo’s there because he’s smooth not because he’s brain of Britain.

I find Lesley Graham a bit annoying but not as bad as Scu. Its cringeful watching him, waiting for him to stumble and stutter and get mixed up. Its the same with Tanya on Ch4 – she comes across as being totally nervous when she does her piece to camera, its disconcerting for the viewers.

Tooting, I’m not a fan of this idea at all. I don’t see that it matters who owns/trains the horses as long as they’re prepared to race them against each other. If AOB and Godolphin have the best horses the so what if they have 2 or 3 each in the top races. I’d rather have that than have them keeping their best horses apart and still mopping up the big races with an individual entry. This is HORSE racing not trainer racing, its the quality of horses in a race that counts not who trains them.

Esc, I read your swift rundown of the various pros and cons to the main contenders for this race and largely agree with you. However your reason for rejecting Liss is a bit fragile. The fact she hasn’t tried the trip is not necessarily a disadvantage. It means she is unexposed and may well improve for the trip. She is just a little off the best at 2m and 2m4f but she shapes like she’ll appreciate the trip and looks to have been trained for the race. I remeber both Dorans Pride and Bacchanal winning this having spent the early part of their career  running shorter trips and only stepped up in trip for the Stayers Hurdle. Mysilv was 2nd in it beaten a nk having her first race beyond 2m. I think Baracouda will be too much for the mare but she’s a horse to save on because we don’t know how good she is yet (at this trip) and she’s very likely to produce a lifetime best in the race now she gets to tackle 3m and has been laid out for it. The rest of them are exposed, Bannow Bay is good, JDC can be good but they are at the mercy of Baracouda if he handles the track. Liss is the only potential fly in the ointment. Do the exacta !

Rob you are right on the money with this one. As you may guess I live in Scotland and the general opinion is that this bill is an utter waste of time and money. As in England this bill was brought in by a couple of do-gooding, no-name Labour backbenchers trying to make a name for themselves. Who gives a damn about banning foxhunting if you have relatives waiting for healthcare or children needing education. Money could be better spent.

Lets face it, if they were hunting rats would anyone say a thing ? This is just the start, what will they ban next, angling ? surely thats cruel, shooting ? well yes must be but thats how they propose to control the fox population now so it must be cruel to shoot a pheasant or grouse but ok to shoot a fox. Then what will they go after, horse racing ? isn’t it cruel to make a horse run and jump for sport and whip it when it wants to slow down. I don’t believe in any of these things but there are a significant number of ill informed individuals in this country who would be delighted to see just that happen and now we’ve opened the door for them. The fact is that the human race has always ‘used’ animals whether for food or work or pleasure and the press coverage and political weight fox hunting recieves is way out of proportion to its impact on our lives.

They say there’s nothing worse than losing a semi-final. I think I might be finding out around 5pm tonight. Good luck Scoot.
