Glad to hear that he is a nice bloke – I can continue to enjoy his music without thinking he’s a tosser.

Bear, you seem to have this whole thing planned out and it looks like curtains for me so if you want her that bad I’ll let you have her ;) now put the pistol down, we can all be friends.

Fine choice of women Bear but being one of many pedants here I should point out that band is just Arcade Fire not The Arcade Fire. I think she (the violinist) is married to the lead singer so you will have to be a home wrecker to win her hand. Best of luck to you though.

Thankfully neither Grassy, went to school with belters, recently went out with a panner but am in fact a peep ! That will test your east lothian nickname knowledge.

Ok Peaty, I’ll narrow it down to east of Musselburgh and west of Haddington. Now back to the thread.

Zome is an occasional visitor. A highly amusing young lady and mentalist lesbian. The type of girl we would all like to marry.

This is very sad news. He was a terrific horse to watch through a race, the way he could slice through the pack cruising along and hurdling beautifully . I think my favourite performance was when he won the Bula before he won the Champion Hurdle. His superiority was such that he pulled his way to the front at the top of the hill and not much Johnson could do about it. He drew a long way clear before tying up on the run in but it was clear that under a proper ride he would have to fall twice to get beat in the Champion. Great days.

On the way to work this morning I was listening to radio 1 and they covered Best Mate’s demise in the sports news. The breakfast DJ as most of you will know is Chris Moyles, a loudmouth who enjoys stirring up a bit of controversy and he made some snippy comments about how ‘it’s just a horse’ and nobody really cares and it shouldnt be on the news. To be fair, he is clearly not a horse racing fan and Best Mate had not featured on his radar before today. Glad to report he badly misjudged the mood of the nation as within a few minutes he said he had 13,000 text messages telling him what an idiot he was and he shut up about it.

That says a lot about the impact Best Mate had, he was one of the few horses who was known by the general public beyond the hard core racing fans and even though its 18 months since the peak of his fame (the 3rd gold cup) his popularity endured.

    Soba,

As a fellow member of the pigeon racers union I concur wholeheartedly. Cats have no place in civilised society as too many owners do not/cannot control them.

Can you imagine if people walking their dogs took a little detour into your garden and let their dog take a crap on your lawn. Nobody would stand for that but somehow its ok for them to let their cat out all night to wander where it likes crapping where it likes and shagging/killing what it likes.

For people who keep birds/poultry/small animals as pets in their garden or who take pride in their garden to have things ruined by a neighbours cat should not be tolerated. If the owner cannot keep the cat in their own garden then it should be tied up when out or kept indoors.

    Dear Zome,

Earlier today I ran over a baby badger and am overcome with guilt and remorse. I just don’t know how best to cook and serve it up. Should it be stuffed and served with a bread sauce ? What vegetables would you suggest to complement the poor thing ?

    Hope you can help

    Yours mouthwateringly

    Jamie
