Me, too
November 1, 2005 at 15:01 #81554Terrible shame. But lets not lambaste connections. You couldnt predict that.
November 1, 2005 at 15:03 #81555Gutted… :(
November 1, 2005 at 15:14 #81556What terrible, terrible news.
Feel so sorry for Jim Lewis & Henrietta Knight – must be absolutely devastating for them.

November 1, 2005 at 15:18 #81558Respect to one of those horses who everyone cannot but adore.
RIP buddy……………………….:(
November 1, 2005 at 15:19 #81559And then we see her lovely novice (jumping a bit right) in the next race…
What can anyone say
November 1, 2005 at 15:29 #81560Very sad news for everyone connected with the horse, and the sport in general. :(
Keith
November 1, 2005 at 15:31 #81561Very sad. Connections must be gutted given the way they have looked after him so well.
November 1, 2005 at 15:33 #81562Very, very sad news. His achievement in winning three Gold Cups was remarkable and, although I am sure it of little comfort to those nearest to the horse, his exploits have ensured that his name will always be remembered.

November 1, 2005 at 15:33 #81563Sad, sad news.
My thoughts go out to connections at the same time as my memory focuses on the three Gold Cups.
Like Persian Punch, he’ll be sadly missed.
RIP Best Mate.
November 1, 2005 at 15:35 #81564Talk about the highs and lows of the game – half an hour later RACING DEMON wins the novice.
I have just heard about Matey – unbelievable. A sad day for all connections as well as all horse racing lovers.
November 1, 2005 at 15:40 #81565I am gutted, I feel honoured to have seen him in Leopardstown in 2003 and 2004. A great horse.

How awful that a day which began with the celebration of one legend ends with the mourning of another.
My most sincere condolences to all connected with Best Mate: he was truly an admirable racehorse.
November 1, 2005 at 16:15 #81567An wonderful horse – a beautiful jumper of a fence – it was a pleasure to have seen him in the flesh
I was never a huge fan of connections however they did not deserve this end
A sad day all round
