Surely Magnier has missed a trick by not retiring The Green Monkey instead of HRE.
After all, he is unbeaten.

I agree with your renewed post. It is sound business practice for Coolmore – but not a goodwill gesture to customers.( there is a subtle difference is there not?) They will make their own choices. I assume Coolmore are paying all expenses for those mares who have ready arrived including ongoing transport costs for those who move on to another stallion? What about compensation for the lost days – is that appropriate? It would certainly be a goodwill gesture!.
My feeling is that Coolmore are rightly seeking to protect their business but are naturally spinning it to their best advantage. Good luck to them. I also think Aiden O’brien is spinning it. No way would anyone pass over the extra commercial gain that HRE would accrue if he is as good as AO’B makes out and as we have already agreed Coolmore are nothing if not good businessmen.
March 12, 2007 at 21:45 #43069I nearly choked when I read this.
For all the talk of goodwill gestures to breeders and the inconvenience it has caused them, and the fact HRE may not have trained on, it’s still the most farcical thing I’ve read in a long time.
Retiring a leading Guineas contender to stud before he’s reached his actual third birthday does no good for the image of the sport, and is a disappointment to all racing fans.
Let’s hope GW can return to the track this season, and maybe even HRE after he’s completed his duties.
