Brigadier Gerard evening at Sandown…another high profile meeting on RTV ruined by the arrival of Irish racing.
RTV are not seriously going to show a tin pot race at Navan 5 minutes before the Group One at Newbury are they??
My trips to The Rowley Mile at Newmarket in the past was different to others as I used to go into to the family enclosure to get a racecard and then back out to go down to the starts.
Have been to the start of The Cambridgeshire when there was 40 runners with the course so wide they had the stalls set up and still had room for the horses to walk behind.
Also walked all the way to The Ceaserwich start and watched races from the devils Dyke.
Yes you can’t see the finish but it’s very peaceful and worth a try. There was some valuable races at Newton Abbot today and would have been nice if ITV could have shown a couple of them but there was no chance of the flat biased channel doing that, much preferring to interrupt coverage of Jumps Finale day with flat racing.
Even with an extra RTV Channel,The BHA would still make a mess of scheduling the off times…a chimps tea party at the zoo would do a better job.
Il be surprised if subscribers are not leaving in their droves given how the coverage has predictably deteriorated since January 1st.
Hopefully this might lead to them offering separate Jumps/flat subscriptionsCoverage of jumps finale day at Sandown is set to be a dogs breakfast this year with 2 Irish meetings now being shown on top of Haydock & Leicester.
No wonder ITVs figures are on the up.It’s one thing to run a channel like this when it’s non subscription but when people are paying for it,it’s just not good enough.
I’m just waiting for them to show a race from punchestown 5 minutes before the 2,000 GuineasGOLDENMILLER34 Timeform have called the recent changed nationals the “plastic Nationals” and suggests that tv viewers are slowly realising that it isn’t the race it was.
ITV are doing very well with their viewing figures across the board except for National Day when they expected to get at least 12m but haven’t got within 1.5m of Minority channel 4.And so they should be pushed to obscurity on Eclipse Day along with that sand rubbish from Chelmsford.
Last year was bad enough I recall with hardly any build up to Sandowns biggest flat race.
It’s not what people are paying for.Are the general public as thick as ITV think they are??
I can’t remember needing this dumbed down nonsense when I first got into racing in the early 80s.Fantastic idea APRACING and wonderful memories of Cheltenham back in the day.
I would have been stood at the 3rd last during that National Hunt Chase, when racegoers were allowed to,unlike today when they are just shepherded into one area like sheep.Would be nice if they banned drinks outside the cars at Aintree, even the roof terraces are no longer drink free anymore sadly.
It’s one thing to provide this kind of low quality coverage if you are a non subscription channel but when RTV are charging the price they do,it just isn’t good enough.
It easy to see why Ascot have left.I’m guessing ITV refused to show Newbury on Sunday so that’s why 2 of the races are now at Ascot
Good to hear the cycle path is still going strong in Cheltenham and it’s an excellent cut through to both the course and the town centre.
Happy memories of walking along there in the early 90s listening to festival radio where Alice Plunkett and Simon Holt had their own shows not to mention hearing reruns of the commentary’s by Robin Gray and Raleigh Gilbert.I’m sure they said they planned to have a reporter at every Irish meeting???
