After the cancellation of racing last week the sport does not need headlines like this on the front page of the BBC News website.

but how could this possibly happen?:

“Members of the public are advised that no alcohol can be brought onto the premises and this will be confiscated on arrival by a member of the security team.

Haydock Park Racecourse operates a responsible drinking policy and all staff are trained to the highest standards. ”

    https://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/haydock/plan-your-day/food-drink/

“A man working for one of the layers said: “There were about 40 to 50 people involved and it got pretty nasty. It’s just drunk people but someone got a right pasting in front of us, and there was beer flying everywhere.

“It seems to be happening a lot and the security needs to be better. There needs to be a police presence.”

And people think the whip is a big issue in racing. Racecourses are reaping what they sow.

    “why?”

Because that’s when you’ll get coach loads of tanked-up chavs kicking off at racecourses up and down the country. The press will have a field day.

It seems to me that a lot of these incidents take place either in May, just after the football season, or, as yesterday, when local big clubs are not playing. Having once dated a woman who lived in Newton-le-Willows for several years, it is very much a Liverpool/Everton area and Everton fans were involved in an incident at Watford last week on the heels of having the damn cheek to try it on at Millwall!

    Nothing changes
As long as the courses get the money in the till
they would rather have drunken morons that empty their wallets on beer and have it off then a race goer that wants to bring in their own water and cheese and pickle sandwich
    Attract more people to racing.?
    p!ss off
    please

Whilst it is a growing problem (that racecourses really need to deal with it better if they are happy to serve alcohol on course) don’t for one minute think that they were all drunken idiots – some of these yobos don’t need alcohol or an excuse for that matter to get into fights at the drop of a hat.

The fact that there were young families caught up in the middle of all this is the saddest thing of all, as you can bet it will likely put them off going racing in the future and for the kids (possibly the next generation of racegoers) it will have left an indelible mark of what happens when you go out for a day at the races.

I couldn’t agree more; however, they should be doing more to prevent the average racegoer’s day being ruined by these oiks.

In reply to the post from GoldenMiller 34 , I went to the Millwall v Everton cup tie , with a mate from Lewisham who is a Police Officer. To correct your misunderstanding around the circumstances , the trouble was started entirely by Millwall fans attacking Everton fans who were coming up the ramp out of the train station. It was only when the away supporters came charging out of the station rather than running away , that the Millwall fans turned tail and ran off.
Similarly the trouble at Watford was started by Watford fans attacking a coach of Everton fans that were already on board , and were waiting to leave the car park. Impossible therefore that the Everton fans were responsible for instigating any trouble.
Football violence can never be tolerated , so I really am perplexed as to why you would think it was “damn cheek” of Everton fans to try it on at Milwall. They never started it , and also never ran away !

Yes, Coggy, a large mob of Everton fans cheekily decided to go to Surrey Quays (not the nearest station) and were confronted by a group of about 30 Millwall fans defending their manor. An Everton fan got slashed (as a precursor to proudly displaying himself all over social media) then the Old Bill separated them and pushed back each with horses. Meanwhile, scores more Everton were pouring out of the tube. The Old Bill penned in a large body of Millwall in a nearby pub while they escorted Everton past but went up a dead end so Millwall were throwing all sorts from the pub garden. Whether the initial confrontation was pre-orchestrated I don’t know. It’s my understanding the Watford fan picked on was completely innocent. That’s two places Everton have visited recently where there has been trouble and they weren’t playing yesterday when Haydock was on. Just thought it was a bit of a coincidence! My mistake, Everton fans are clearly entirely innocent in all recent events (the whole world knows Watford for its fearsome Ultras and Suicide Squad).

Since my near death entanglements with Cardiff City Soul Crew’s levitating ironworks in last Saturday’s travelling fiasco – I have experienced a spiritual conversion boyo, and an appreciable two percent swing to Corbyn and a life lived cold on baked beans tins and dreams of black lung disease shared with coughing black coal dust faces and a difficult to spot Abbot beckoning me to a secret coalbed of unestimable worth. GOD BLESS THE MINERS. GOD BLESS THE WELSH HILLS GOD BLESS THE SPILLAGE GOD BLESS THE CRAIC.

Plonk Gina Miller im Haydock with Shaw Taylor with handcyufs as backup – if she can tie up and constrain the 600 freewheelers in our Westminster Palace of tragodian fun, putting the brakes on an off the tracks head butting Boris baffoning coach party at Haydock Park – should be a piece of cherry cake. B-)

This shows a little “regional bias” to say the least.
Firstly , the Haydock area is not only Everton / Liverpool. There are many Man Utd , Man City , Wigan Rugby League fans , and others in the area.
If the Watford fans that were injured (it was more than one ) were indeed innocent , then that is obviously wrong , but as I stated earlier , it was Watford fans attacking an Everton coach that was ready to leave , that provoked the response.
And with regard to getting off the train at the wrong station, if it is a heinous crime, then what sort of world are we living in , and what sort of a precedent does it set , no go areas , segregation of society etc ?. I agree that it is a logistical nightmare for the Police however. That said what a world ,when we are defending “our manor” . It is reminiscent of Victorian scuttlers , or L.A. gang culture.

The same type of yobbish behaviour is found at many rececourses across the country and that is sadly the case. You shouldn’t let your “regional bias” deflect you from that.

Can’t wait to see the EDL defending Cheltenham against the invading Irish hordes.

I knew the Prestbury Cup was a bad idea.
