A big well done to Irish racing for once again steeling a march on the uk.
Newbury could have done something similar to its super Saturday but obviously don’t want to make the effort or provide the prize money.
This reminds me of them cracking on with their champions weekend while the BHA messed about leaving their champions day in the Ascot swamp. While I’m glad Epsom did this it does seem Matt Chapman has a Pratt button that he presses on a regular basis and that’s a shame as he can be sensible and knowledgeable when he wants to.
I remember seeing him when I went to the last greyhound Derby at Wimbledon last year and saw him whooping up the crowd in true moronic style and thinking that trashy ITV are sure to sign him up if they see this!!!
ITV obviously believe a large part of the population are thick and have the attention span of a nat so racing can hardly complain have sold the rights to them.At least only one of the other meetings was on RUK. How can the the BHA expect newspapers to give much of a Derby build up when they have to print so many meetings?
Next Saturday looks just as daft with meetings at Beverley,Catterick,Chester&HaydockI assume that Oli Bell is only there to interview his Newmarket mates in the paddock and I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who was trying to look at the horses behind the presenters.
I’ve given ITV a go since it started and during the jump season the coverage was bearable but yesterday was the final straw for me and it’s RUK for me from now on, at least for the rest of flat seasonHow any thinks this is better than CH4 is beyond me.
Yes there was a lovely feature on Walter Swinburn but that was the best of it,why was there fashion coverage on Derby day??.
They spent more time on that than showing horses in the paddock and they took 90mins to show the Queen arriving, that should have been at the start of the show just like CH4 always did.
Does anyone know if they are not allowed to show much of the horses in the paddock to boost RUK?
I’m lucky to have RUK so why I was watching the dumbed down channel I don’t know
The off times yesterday didn’t help, having the spring cup just 15mins before the big race didn’t help.
They were at Ayr for the Scottish national but didn’t show a single horse in the paddock beforehand,RUK would have been no help as they had to show a gaff race from Bangor 10mins beforeNext Saturday all afternoon Cartmel is due to go off just 5mins after Market Rasen!….what joker planned that???
Next Friday all 6 meetings are on ruk and then another day there’s nothing!
The problem for me is when you get a big race such as last Saturday’s coral-eclipse ruk had to show a egg&spoon race from Beverley 10mins before the off!
Only hope is that we just have atr meetings as the away meetings on the big days!
There is just too much racing at the moment,as Phil said why does Ascot have to race this weekend between the Royal meeting and the King George? It never used to.
The only way it may change is if the newspapers only print 2 meetings a day???It wouldn’t bother me if on the big days such as last Saturday’s 2,000 Guineas day ruk showed the big meeting and that’s it!
When that happens just by pure fluke of the fixture list ,I.e aintree the coverage is brilliant and it’s just like being there.
It wouldn’t take too much rejigging of the fixtures to achieve this.
As for yesterday I rekon the delayed races correspondent obviously only works mon- friThis time next year ITV will be 4 months into their new contract and while this year ch4 are giving us 10 days out of 15 days racing on a mainstream channel, next year we will be lucky to have 1 day
Totally agree about nick luck,I think he’s done more than enough to secure the main role.
For me ITV need to go back to having a separate jumps/flat team and reverse the ch4 idea of putting the humans ahead of the horses.Only sea the stars has come close to him since in my opinion
Fingers crossed balding gets nowhere near the new ITV team, she ruined BBC racing and then did the same to ch4 racing
Not from a racegoing point of view, with the national as the 6 th race it seemed an age to get there and with only one race after they didn’t open the crossing to after last race so it was a bunfight getting out!
What awful news,I was at Aintree yesterday and saw him pulled up mid way down the back streight and when the screens went up I feared the worst.
But he must have some how got loose because he ended up right in the top corner of the course behind the 2m1f start where the coaches park!- AuthorPosts
