Stupidity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.why is The Greatwood still scheduled for 3.30 again this year given its history with low sun?
Given the copious amounts of water put on for the inferior showcase meeting,it wouldn’t take much rain to turn it very soft
Perhaps some of them need to be scheduled a few weeks later but it’s down to the dry autumn and given the splendid summer we had it was always going to happen.
We do need these races though,Go West had a lovely start to chasing at Warwick on Tuesday as opposed to being forced into a handicap.
Yes the field sizes are small and still would be less than 8 if we had rain but there is always sand pit handicaps for the those that must have a bet. There are a good few racecourses around that stage almost twice as many meetings than 40 years ago and they didn’t have the non raceday entertaining facilities that they have now.
If they did drastically cut the fixture list, justimagine how much the turf would improve20mm of watering earlier in week and then followed by another 7mm up the straight today so it should be ok?
Definition of the bloated fixture list:Bath racing after the clocks have gone back
What makes it worse is that the race had exactly the same issues at the same time last year so Cheltenham do nothing and hope the sun isn’t out, same with scheduling The Greatwood Hurdle for 3.30 again despite that race’s previous issues.
It’s just as well it was a rainy day at Aintree today given The Old Roan was 65 minutes later than last year.Even in this day of multiple channels, there are plenty of viewers that will only watch something on BBC1 or ITV1 so shoving the Gold Cup onto ITV4 would be a backward step especially as it will be up against the egg chasing
In fairness to the BHA,they did create a window ahead of The Champion Stakes only for Irish racing to come along and fill it.
Saturday was Ascots annual reminder of why they went to SSRMy goodness there must some clueless numpties at the helm at JCR.have they not noticed The Derby slowly sinking without a trace on a Saturday?
Then we have the flat must finish this week narrative carrying on next week with the low key showcase meeting on the same day of the group one at Doncaster.
At least this is the once in a decade decent ground Champions day at Ascot, just leaves the issue of top horses being over the top.Last a lot of water at Kempton compared what they have allegedly put on at Chepstow(one eye in Welsh national no doubt).
Just shows how much is needed to get it to good on the winter courses.
Wonder what the NH course at Ascot is like given how it looked in the summerNicky mentioned on Sunday that Sir Gino might start back in The Desert Orchid at Kempton although I’m not sure if he remembered that that race has been dumbed down into a handicap
Same depressing mantra from JCR with them rolling out the red carpet for the sockless drunks and the return of the dreaded”ladies day”,an affliction that’s now even hit Badger Day at Wincanton.
Disappointed to see Guy praise Aintree,a racecourse that’s handed itself over to the nightclubbing coke snorters.
I’m not sure the racing enthusiasts will be returning to the festival anytime soon.Perfect illustration of the clowns that plan race times at BHA and HRI with scheduling Killarney at 3.40 and Ebor at 3.35.York was never going to be off on time, also why all the afternoon meetings on RTV with nothing on SSR?
Great to see Reference Point mentioned especially as he took in the King George on the way to York & Doncaster, something Lambourn appeared incapable of doing yesterday it seems.
Certainly easy to spot the young “journalists” & presenters working themselves up into a lather for tomorrow’s race, way too young to remember when this really was a race to get excited about.
