One of my favourite races of the early season. Forecast looks patchy leading up to it but I don’t think we’re going to see much of a change from the current good to anything worse than good to soft.
The weather is going to play a key role here. Djelo and protektorat both want it softer, pic d’orhy doesn’t seem to mind either way but may just prefer it slightly easier while Hewick wants no worse than tarmac!
Tricky. Because I don’t see all of them lining up so do you pull the trigger now and hope your selection gets its ground?
I’m rowing in with a double of Hewick and Strong leader in the preceding hurdle.
October 28, 2025 at 12:10 #1743238HEWICK 5/1 for me is fit from hurdles run to.
October 28, 2025 at 12:31 #1743239I go to this meeting every year and it always looks good at this stage and then cuts right up by the day (the field not the going).
That said i am missing it this year so it will probably be belter. Wouldnt argue with Hewick if he turns up but would fancy The real whacker again if he doesnt
October 28, 2025 at 13:04 #1743241We always used to start the season off at Bangor but then switched to Charlie Hall Day. Unfortunately we’ve now got a bit of a lockdown dog that can’t be left at home like our last dog so have to watch it on the tv. Remember travelling home one year after Cue Card had fallen not knowing he was ok till we arrived home. I do miss going there.

October 29, 2025 at 05:14 #1743276If Elliott comes over then his will likely be a play , however I’ve held off any bets yet
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
October 29, 2025 at 11:26 #1743281Yeah I’m on with Hewick and Stellar Story now with Katate Dori in each way doubles.
The doubles I had with Haiti Colouers are now sadly down the pan.

October 30, 2025 at 16:02 #1743310What a change from the days of Wayward Lad, Borrough Hill Lad, Barton Bank, One Man, et al…
October 30, 2025 at 16:10 #1743312Must be odds on that Protekotrat is pulled on account of the ground as well.
It’s a sorry state of affairs really.
October 30, 2025 at 17:25 #1743317Given that he ran against Jonbon over 2 1/2 miles LTO on good ground I’d be surprised if Protektorat was pulled on account of the going.
October 30, 2025 at 17:55 #174332120mm of watering earlier in week and then followed by another 7mm up the straight today so it should be ok?
October 30, 2025 at 18:06 #1743323That Aintree race was an end of the season 250k pot in which there was (practically) only 3 runners. He’s just pot hunting there.
Skelton has said he will only run him if the ground is right and we know he has a definite preference for soft.
Time will tell I guess. But I would imagine if the going is given as good on Saturday morning he will pull him. And even if he doesn’t, he’ll be doing well to beat Hewick on that ground.

DreadfulOctober 31, 2025 at 15:11 #1743389What a headache of a race. Six old favourites. I’m almost tempted to just watch it.
If I had a gun to my head I’d probably just opt for The Real Whacker if only because of his price.
But I honestly can’t separate them.
October 31, 2025 at 15:35 #1743394I’m going with The Real Whacker again this year.
Has had a prep run, will love the ground if the rain stays away and is a year younger than most of his main rivals.
October 31, 2025 at 21:03 #1743439The Real Whacker for me at 6-1, I love this horse, and I’d love to see him win again
