Typical lack of class by Chapman, whose first comment as he confirmed the race result was to say that the winner was not as good as Douvan or Altior. He’s a ******* twat isn’t he?

2:45 Chepstow – Bob FordThanks gman. Not “digging you out”, whatever that means. Was just hoping you would elaborate for a thicko like myself :)
I’m not entirely comfortable with the huge improvement shown, so would appreciate if gman could explain that gap in a little more detail for a n00b like myself.
November 7, 2017 at 22:44 in reply to: The best ride you've seen in the Grand National since 1960? #1325732Twelfth home and beaten 89l they may well have been, but Paul Moloney’s completion aboard the dyspraxic gelding-cum-cyborg Buywise in 2016 was one hell of a feat of jockeyship.
I’ve no idea whether Chris Pitt intends to produce an updated version of <em class=”d4pbbc-italic”>Go Down to the Beaten, his account of a specific non-winner from each of the past however many decades worth of Nationals, but I’d nominate Buywise and his connections as the candidates for that year’s renewal any day of the week.

Please elaborate. I am sure I’d enjoy it.

Will watch from behind the sofa I think. Just pray that Coneygree is fit and healthy, and that Cue Card gets home safely. He’s nearly 12, doesn’t owe anyone anything. I wish they’d have retired him, to be honest. I realise that will be unpopular but it’s how I feel.
Interested to see how Shantou Flyer does after leaving Curtis.
Surely not Thomas Brown – that old rogue?
Rock Gone e/w for me.
I haven’t been to many tracks, but I plan on visiting them all when I retire. (Well the NH ones).
ADORE
Newton Abbot – great memories of my teenage years. used to stand in inside of the track, loved those days and the views you would get.
Devon & Exeter
Wolverhampton NH (back in the day). Used to sneak in on the back straight in my student days, stand by a hurdle miles away from the stand and chat to the safety guys there. Loved it.OK
Warwick – went there about 10 years ago. Very much enjoyed.AWFUL
Southwell NH. Obv never been for the AW. The NH track has too many accidents, but I do like the paddock and winning post being accesible to the general public.CANNOT CATEGORISE
Aintree (GN). Went on the Monday in 1997. Really enjoyed being there, was one of the last to leave in fact! Just milled around afterwards taking it all in, though disappointed could not walk the course. the horse I backed, General Wolfe, finished miles behind (16th/17) but I always recall that every horse got cheered home, even the pulled ups as they walked back in. And the deaths of Smith’s Band and Straight Talk totally out a dampener on it for me and I lost interest in NH racing for a long while after that as I felt guilty about having enjoyed the day without knowing about those deaths.I’ve only been to one flat meeting, at Wolverhampton pre-AW. Races over too quickly for me, lot of hanging around. Didn’t enjoy and have never really liked flat, apart from sprint handicaps like the Wokingham and Ayr Gold Cup.
Happy to report that Annacotty has been retired today, I understand.
His greatest day came when nudging out another tough warrior, Buywise, to win the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham in November 2015, providing Ian Popham with the second-biggest win of his career.
Of course, the biggest was when the pair collected the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day of 2013.
I’ve a feeling I was at one of those Devon & Exeter meetings. If not any of those particular ones from 1990, I do recall a meeting there around that time where the fifth race was a walkover and the sixth a two-horse race which gives me my username.
Would love to see the cards from all of those fixtures listed above.
I for one fully anticipate such heavyweight clashes not actually happening, as modern trainers and owners continue to avoid racing their best horses against the other very good horses. We all want the super races, but we all know deep down that most hyped duels rarely take place, even at the festivals. There’s always another race to move them to, thus avoiding the fear of defeat.
Pity, but that’s how it seems nowadays.
Weekend away, so only just managed to watch the Saturday Sandown show.
Matt Chapman was more interested in mentioning the Joshua/Klitschko fight than anything else.
On the positive side, I noticed that they used the bottom of the screen as a ‘ticker’ with pertinent info (eg Menorah’s career history of key wins, Cobden’s notable seasonal wins etc) and I thought that to be very helpful and useful info. They should do that sort of thing more.
Of course, that could be something they would use when showing a horse in the paddock or going down to the start, which they are poor at so far. I suggest that next NH season they could mention a horse’s history a little more, below their form figures, using such a ticker. Not just ‘Menorah won this the last three seasons’ type of thing, but identifying each horse’s major triumph or relevant/important detail.
Have narrowed this down to four:
The only one I have backed yet is Fine Rightly at 33/1. I like three others here but may well just watch, as usual. They are Cogry (yes I know he’s a rogue, but catching the eye again in last two very competitive races), Vintage Clouds and Vivaldi Collonges (gave One for Arthur a stone and a thrashing in the Novices’ in this meet here last year).
Loathe to rule out Seldom Inn (would be nailed on if at Kelso) and Shotgun Paddy will always give a run for your money in a race like this.
If that dog HPM wins this I’m giving up the game.
I still can’t believe The Thinker didn’t win this.
Miinnehoma, Maori Venture, Monty’s Pass and Many Clouds are my only winners. Suppose I have to pick a horse beginning with M then! That’s More of That and Measureofmydreams. They were both on my very long list, but didn’t make the cut. Suppose I’ll be backing losers again today.
Note, I am one of those guys who backs two in this race at most. Looking forward to seeing the pro punters on twitter and online claim they had the winner of the race, which they tipped in February, without reminding us that they also tipped another fifteen horses since then and that the winner wasnt in their four they lead their columns with this morning.
1. Perfect Candidate
2. Shantou Flyer
3. Blaklion- AuthorPosts
