Such a pity; poor chap.
December 9, 2017 at 19:10 #1331328Politologue unbeaten going right handed, mediocre left handed and well beaten in three tries at Cheltenham….Yet is being spoken of as a Champion Chase contender.
Would anyone on here back him for the festival ?
December 9, 2017 at 19:51 #1331337Maybe if Douvan, Altior and Min all no showed.
December 9, 2017 at 20:07 #1331340mediocre left handed
At first glance it would appear so,but none of the disappointing races he has run left handed were at two miles. His form LH over 2m reads U1F,and he was almost certainly going to win the two races he didn’t complete.
I’m not saying he is going to beat Altior or Douvan in the Champion, but I think he will run very well and surprise a few people.
Although a lot of people want to disrespect this horse, including that absolute cod piece Chapman immediately after the race which made my blood boil,he is one of the best jumpers of a fence I have seen in many a year.
December 9, 2017 at 20:16 #1331343Typical lack of class by Chapman, whose first comment as he confirmed the race result was to say that the winner was not as good as Douvan or Altior. He’s a ******* twat isn’t he?
December 9, 2017 at 21:11 #1331351Agreed. And anyone who gets involved with that appalling newspaper has little class.

It’s still mediocre form. If Douvan and Altior are on their game then he’s got no chance.
However, a deserved winner today
December 9, 2017 at 22:23 #1331359Not a race I got involved in.
I agree with what you’re saying Mark, but one can’t deny it was an entertaining race, it’s just a massive shame about Sir Valentino. It put a real downer on the day and I feel for connections.
I don’t see Politologue as one to go close in the Queen Mother unless Altior or Douvan don’t make it. I feel if there is a Cheltenham winner in that race it’s Fox Norton when he tackles the Ryanair but I still feel as if he’s likely to find one too good there.
Not a vintage winner, sort of along the lines of Dodging Bullets class I think.
December 9, 2017 at 22:42 #1331368Lets face it we were probably all thinking that if there was going to be one QMCC contender come out of todays race it really should have been Fox Norton, as take him out of the race and you couldn’t say it was a vintage renewal of the race.
If he had any strong claims he really should have been putting this field to the sword handily and whilst his jumping on the whole was ok, didn’t appear slick enough for a 2 miler and you could see him struggling to lay up with the main players in March (the likes of Special Tiara & Douvan won’t be hanging around).
After the race Tizzard mentioned going up in trip with him but I am not sure it should be 3m in the KG, the Ryanair looks the most obvious target at Cheltenham and he could probably take in the Ascot Chase in February over 2m5f as a prep for it – not sure what is available at that distance between now and then though so you might see him over 2m again.
December 9, 2017 at 22:47 #1331370Aren’t they aiming Cue Card at that Ascot race though? That’s surely on their mind, and with what happened to Thistlecrack at Newbury you can see why Kempton has appeared on the radar.
December 9, 2017 at 22:57 #1331372Sizing John could be KG bound (depending on what happens tomorrow) and will the owners be keen to run both horses in that?

Could be another Dodging Bullets?
Remember him disappointing at a couple of festivals then in the following season won this race when a tad unfancied, then the Clarence House, then the big one…
That year there were question marks over the big two…Sprinter Sacre and Sire De Grugy, and although they both made Cheltenham they were both well below their best and DB picked up the pieces and the crown!
One thing about this Politologue…he’s improving with every run and he sure can jump!
