Cloudy’s better than that, he never looked his usual self to me but no taking that away from the Fox he was impressive.
November 21, 2017 at 10:45 #1327878Patrick Mullins on ATR last night. Seems to be hinting at Douvan coming here and Un De Sceaux going for the Hilly Way Chase in Cork; makes sense with UDS being popular in Cork. If there is even a 50% chance that Douvan turns up here, and there is, then 3/1 is a huge price. Obviosuly I know that it’s Mullins and plans change daily but 3/1 still too big, I think..
November 21, 2017 at 12:35 #1327892Would be surprised if Douvan comes over for his first run of the season following his injury plus he has only crossed the Irish Sea once outside of the Festival so very unlikely and don’t forget that the yard/owner also has Min to figure in (apparently according to Ricci he has wintered very well and strengthened up considerably).
For me the obvious one to come over is UDS as he came and won last year and probably is in a better position to face off against that type of opposition first time out.
November 21, 2017 at 16:07 #1327919Min has an entry at Gowran Park this weekend. With Altior gone the Tingle Creek is easy money for them if Douvan is in good order. Fox Norton can give UDS a race; he wont get anywhere near a fit Douvan. I reckon he will turn up here, with UDS going to Cork for the Grade 2, assuming everything goes to plan.
November 21, 2017 at 16:09 #1327920Douvan was initially down to run in this last season if my memory serves me right then they pulled him out for UDS
UDS won last year but made hard work of it. I’d be inclined to take UDS on if he’s Mullins runner and short enough.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
November 21, 2017 at 16:46 #1327926My thoughts are simply will they risks bringing Douvan over first time out against pretty stiff competition after an injury where he is unlikely to be at his best – Sandown is currently good to soft soft in several places and UDS (who would have won easier last year had he not made a horlicks of the last two fences) is suited to those conditions (arguably the softer the better).
My only worry for that would be that Ruby really gets on well with him (of his 22 races since joining Mullins, Ruby has ridden him 20 times) and the only time Townend has ridden him he put in a rather poor round of jumping and included one shocking mistake at Sandown against Sprinter – granted that was on good ground but……..
Interesting to note that Min’s entry at the weekend is over 2m4f (he has never race beyond 2m2f) and both he & Douvan also have entries in the John Durkan (also 2m4f on 10 December) along with Djakadam.
November 21, 2017 at 17:33 #1327933Cant see douvan coming over for this first time out
November 22, 2017 at 15:32 #1328035have to agree, i don’t see it all.
Went through all this last year i believe when Ruby made his comments that “6/1 for Douvan is crazy” and the ques started to form at bookies only for outrage when he was puled out.
Quite happy to take UDS on with Fox Norton.
November 26, 2017 at 09:20 #1328765Not a race I bother with that much usually, but did take a couple of them Ante-Post, which I’m pretty sure I’ve never did before.
Wish it had been Politologue I’d went for, as even with Altior in there, after Exeter, I thought this boy could have given him a race, but we’ll not get to see just how wrong I would have been lol.
I’m on Fox Norton now for a few quid ew at 10’s, and happy with that, and I’ll be disappointed if he don’t make the frame.
Main reason for posting though, is that the other one I backed, Great Field, is out till the spring, just in case anyone else thought he looked a bit of value at 20’s, as he’s still in plenty of firms lists.
November 26, 2017 at 21:21 #1328934Had a nibble on min at 25/1
Almost certainly dosent come here, wont do any damage takinng a chance, willie saying douvan likely yesterday, but they will want to keep douvan and min seperate if not stepping either up (min was stepped up yest but that wasnt a plan as willie said)
But douvan at 6/4 FTO in G1 company is a crazy price
If douvan where to come and lose, i think ittl be likely he gets stepped up
Min 25/1
November 27, 2017 at 09:29 #1328994I wouldn’t back Min for this at 100/1; his chances of coming here at 0%. Willie never sends a grade 1 horse out 2 weeks after a run on soft ground. They mentioned earlier that Douvan was aimed here and UDS was aimed at the Hillyway because his owners are from Cork so there’ll be a big crowd there for him. Obviously if Douvan shows him that he might not be at his best he will be cut from this; they wont risk him if there is even a slight possibility he is not right. That probably explains the 6/4. If they do pull him they wont add Min; it’s not their style. They’ll just give it a miss or they will swap UDS and Douvan. I’m on Douvan at 3/1 but I wont feel good about it until I see him on the course. Mullins has form for changing his plans; if he is still in after final decs he will be odds on, you’d think.
November 27, 2017 at 13:08 #1329038Like i said i dont think min would appear, more chance of douvan and UDS but taking any small price about douvan atm is just plain crazy, id rather take a small punt that the remarkable happens and min comes than play at anything under 3/1 douvan
Riccis had a season to forget last year, wouldnt be surprised if the norm is out the window this year, prize money will be king more so than any year previous!
Good luck with douvan
November 27, 2017 at 16:43 #1329070Looks like Douvan could be coming afterall https://www.racingpost.com/news/news/douvan-cut-for-tingle-creek-as-bookmakers-take-hint-from-mullins/310109
December 6, 2017 at 09:43 #1330604Ominous drift on Douvan this morning – match at 2.98 on the machine…
December 6, 2017 at 09:52 #1330606Said it from the start, I dont think he comes over. They will send UDS instead and i fancy Fox norton to win that.
UDS at 11/1 is still very good imho, so happy to have a saver on that.
December 6, 2017 at 10:56 #1330611Is the drift due to market support for Fox Norton or is that just shortening because of the drift?
There doesn’t seem to be any drift for the Queen Mother so cant have been a setback?
Will be a lot of bad feeling again if he stays at home and UDS comes over because all the indications from owner and trainer were that Douvan looked Tingle Creek bound…
Hoping he does come as I’m on the double with him at evs and Blaklion at 5’s which was gonna pay for Christmas in our house…
December 6, 2017 at 10:58 #1330613Fox Norton and the others have shortened with everyone trying to second guess Mullins. Their prices would look a bit crazy if Douvan was pulled.
