The insistence on making Chamberlin etc dress up in that stupid fancy dress on Derby Day (and Royal Ascot). I mean, they just look like posh twats don’t they?
The hats – just bullshit.
What’s the logic? Are people watching meant to be impressed? I wasn’t. They looked pathetic.
A horse like Crosspark, admirable as he is, may not have a high enough handicap rating to get on over the 25 Elliott horses that will get in. (He’s 142 now, same as Joe Farrell who just snuck in this year).
Talking of Venetia, I would have loved to have seen Yala Enki in a soft ground GN.
Robinsfirth is another admirable chaser who I’d like to see in the 2020 race.April 6, 2019 at 11:58 in reply to: Saturday Handicap Tipping Comp – Week 19 – Grand National #1416518

I spent a lovely 45 minutes or so reading through the form for this yesterday, and arrived at Born Survivor.
We’ve all been there, yeah!
It’s interesting, following the rest of you guys through the season, how alike my thinking is with some in particular, and I notice a few times when I spend time on a race and come to a conclusion, how often other people’s tips match mine, even with longer shots. Point of this ramble being, I like Forest Des Aigles as an each-way tickle, and it doesn’t surprise me that peter h does too! (He’s much better at this than I am as well).April 5, 2019 at 11:54 in reply to: Aintree 2019 Competition, rules, selections + leaderboard #1416237

Is there a Pinstickers’ Guide to which is the best Pinstickers’ Guide to the Grand National, please?
That’s very generous of you, Nathan.
Of course, the more I look, the more I get confused. I haven’t ruled out about 32 of them at the moment.April 3, 2019 at 22:59 in reply to: Aintree 2019 Competition, rules, selections + leaderboard #1416002

Dual Ultima winner Un Temps Pour Tout retired.
Moon Racer (former Champion Bumper, later ran in Champion Hurdle) also retired.
Sandymount Duke reported out (racingtv.com), which should mean Bless The Wings is in.
Joe Farrell next in the queue!
If we had a like button it would be clicked several times over in this thread, and of course for VtC’s superb commitment to the cause. I am about to devote twenty minutes to looking at it now, and have made a cuppa to join me.
My thoughts before I do so are: I’m thinking a lot like peter h this year, in so much as I was really keen to see Yala Enki have a go at this (have been thinking the same for three years now). And after all the stick I’ve given Singlefarmpayment(BF) in here, is he my long-shot?
I wanted Rathvinden to run in this last year, but as he didn’t I got a rare (for me) GN winner in Tiger Roll. If this race was ran nine times, I would expect TR to win it twice at least. Therefore, 7/2 seems to me to be fair. I’d not forgive myself if I looked elsewhere and backed something else (I’m not much of an ante post punter).
I really want Joe Farrell to get in. Instead the first reserve will be a 14-y-o who should have been retired after pulling up in the Cross-Country. smh
I suspect I’m not the only one who has recently looked at recent GNs, and then a few of the old ones on YouTube.March 29, 2019 at 18:45 in reply to: SELECT 3 HORSES to win on Saturday 30th March 2019 #1413413

Sorry to be That Guy, but I had hoped I had entered a Jumping tipping competition. I have absolutely no idea who and what anything in the Lincoln is.
So, I am picking these based on official ratings. May as well. I mean, it’s not as if half of them will be trying, as usual.
Win: Another Batt

One aspect of this year’s NH Chase that hasn’t been addressed in greater depth is the pace of the race from the get-go. The amateurs went too strong a pace from the start, wasn’t that agreed?
OK, how about (and bear with me here) that any horse that completes the first two miles too quickly is instantly disqualified and pulled up? Is it beyond the wit of the authorities to establish what time the first 2m of the race should be completed in, and if any of the competitors is going faster than that, then to penalise them? Then there would not be such a hot early pace to the race with jockeys knowing they will be penalised for it?
Afterall, how many horses that lead a 4m+ race after 2m actually go on to win it?
I am probably talking utter drivel, but thought it might be worth putting out there.
