(Surprised there wasn’t a thread but I went back eleven pages and couldn’t see one. Apologies if I missed it)
Forty-nine currently entered for this year’s renewal, held on Saturday 18th April.
https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/3/ayr/2026-04-18/915372/Willie Mullins has only one entry in the 2026 Scottish National – Road To Home.
In 2024 he had six (Macdermott won, Klarc Kent fourth, Ontheropes fifth, Spanish Harlem sixth). Won £131,120. Dan Skelton had one, Ballygriffincottage, finishing seventh for £1,320. Going=Soft.
In 2025 he had five (Captain Cody won, Klarc Kent second, also had the unplaced fav Olympic Man and returning champion Macdermott who was fatally injured). Won £156,260. Skelton had two non-completers. Going=Good To Soft
In ’24 and ’25 he was chasing the trainers’ title and the money from this race helped him get there.
Can we deduce that Mullins is not going for the UK trainers’ title so hard this season? Afterall, if he was to repeat last season’s Grand National result (won £860,000) then that would be a huge reduction in Skelton’s lead.
Hopefully means that Mullins isn’t targeting the Ayr meeting to the extent he did last season, which could mean more local runners who are not scared away from the many decent races there. I do hope so.
Who do I fancy? Ask Brewster is going to be dangerous off 135, but perhaps this is where Nicky ends his hoodoo with Hyland?
March 31, 2026 at 16:09 #1761510I do like the loon of Ask Brewster. Along with

March 31, 2026 at 22:45 #1761593Quelle Farce, as I’ve mentioned before, there is a thread right at the top of the page called “Big Races Existing Threads”.
Why would you need to trawl eleven pages, when there’s a thread right at the top of the page to let you know if a threads been started
Why also would you need even consider trawling back that many pages, when the entries just came out today.
March 31, 2026 at 23:01 #1761599King of Answers looks the obvious one to me, but I’ll look for bigger prices
Kim Roque is a horse I’m waiting out, and happy to be with him again, even after a few quid lost on him already this season. Thought he might be one for The Freebooter at Aintree or Pat Taaffe at Punchestown
Duffle Coat an old favourite, and even though he went off the boil, very interesting, and I think he’ll go
Promontory won The Dublin National with plenty on hand, and should improve
Another improver could be Kap Vert, and can see him making the journey to Ayr. Just can’t be convinced it’ll be for this
Chance Another One looks www bit overpriced at 33’s too
No bet right now, but this the definite shortlist, with slight preference for Duffle Coat right now
Shortlist
Duffle Coat
Kap Vert
Kim Roque
PromontoryApril 1, 2026 at 16:22 #1761662Thanks for the post VtC.
I trawled back as I wondered whether people might have discussed this race some weeks and even months back as a target race for a favourite horse, perhaps.
I’m pleased it’s not Willie dominated, makes it more of a puzzle to some extent.
April 3, 2026 at 05:11 #1761809King of Answers was given a horrible ride at Cheltenham , he’s def going to be a play
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
April 11, 2026 at 23:40 #1763287Early punt
Isaac Des Obeaux 16/1 win only
April 12, 2026 at 15:45 #1763388I’ve taken the 8-1 on King of Answers just now.
My second choice would be either Montregard or Oliver’s Travels. My preference would be Oliver’s Travels here, and Montregard for Sandown
April 12, 2026 at 16:53 #1763407Promontory getting bet, so no option but to bet just now. Added Kim Roque too

April 12, 2026 at 21:19 #1763453I’ve had Ask Brewster in my tracker for this since trainer mentioned it as a target at start of the season after win at Chepstow.
It also put me off backing him in the Kim Muir!

Our Power 28/1 each way 1st 5 (LADs boost)
and Lads are giving NRMB.
Surprised about the NRMB, this early, as 365 are still antepost.
April 14, 2026 at 12:40 #1763580Same bets as VTC, but much lesser prices!
Kim Roque 5s win
Promontory 25s ew 5 places

Git Maker 20s win only
April 16, 2026 at 12:34 #1763792My each way two 5 places…
Montregard
Kim RoqueApril 16, 2026 at 12:58 #1763798I had actually bet Kim Roque and Kap Vert initially, preferring Promontory for Sandown, but had to cash him out when I seen the support for Promontory
Kap Vert was 33’s when I first bet him, but just couldn’t justify three Antepost. Happy to add him on Saturday morning win only, unless he starts to shorten. Certainly won’t be getting 33’s
Kap Vert
Kim Roque 12’s
Promontory 66’s EWApril 16, 2026 at 17:03 #1763850Got to go with Chasingouttheblues 12/1 each-way 1/5 5 places. Keeps improving, never wins by far so the handicapper cannot quite get a handle on him, and looks to be a type crying out for this sort of trip.
King Of Answers 13/2 is a lightly raced progressive sort who stayed on nicely over 3m 6f at Cheltenham.
