I’d love to see a list of racecards for the race over the years.

I remember Huperade running in it often in the 70s, in the days where the top 8 were in the handicap and the rest out of it, when nobody considered any horses with a numbercloth over 25. Huperade may have been 25s/33s one year, but was 100s when he was older and somehow scraping in when he was 12 and 13 still.

Great competition format, thanks. Encourages you to look at every horse in each race. Really enjoyed it even though I have been dreadful at it.

If Djakadam wins tomorrow, there is going to be a huge public appetite for a race between him and Vautour to find out which is best.

Next season, people will want to see if Douvan can beat Vautour/Djakadam.

I hope we’re not denied those match-ups, but fear we will.

That’s without even thinking about what hurdle clashes will be denied us.

Difference between Baltazar King and “every horse” is that “every horse” hasn’t had the green screens round him after life-threatening injury in the Grand National, then been at an equine hospital for weeks recovering from broken ribs plus other injuries, all whilst being aged 11 (ie a veteran).

Am I alone in being worried that Baltazar King has returned, after Aintree, for this? Surely at 12, he should have been retired?

Hugely disappointing. want to see the best horses race each other in championship races. (Similarly, Annie Power would never race Faugheen in a hurdle either).

The Ryanair was a race added a few years ago as the festival saw the pound signs of having an extra day. This is the result – diluted championship races.

Really has subdued the excitement of the first morning. In five years Ricci will own everything and run them in separate races to sweep them all up. Bad for the sport.

(Hello board – long-term lurker, drawn here by the Memorials via twitter, and thoroughly enjoy the previews in this forum. Big fan of NH in the 70s and 80s when growing up, kind of lost contact with the sport in the 2000s, but have really got back into it in the last eight or nine months and have thoroughly enjoyed this NH season so far. Enjoy chases, especially the big Saturday handicaps and graded races, hence my disappointment in Vautour).
