No Bet.
Exit Smiling was the horse I was interested in, as he’s well handicapped, and the yard is in slightly better form than when he had his 2 runs earlier in the year.
Although nibbled this morning he is weaker than I would have expected so I will therefore give the race a swerve.
Tuesday the 12th of April – I’m looking at the 4.40 at Southwell.
Guy who only goes racing a couple of times a year. Picked most the horses because he liked the name. If Racing For Change can’t market this guy to the outside world then they may as well give up.
Totally agree about a lot of the bickering on the forum, most of it is unnecessary. Unfortunately OneEye is c.., keeps coming on the forum under a new identity, each identity is that of an idiot though.
I suppose Geoff Harker is the crook of the day now. Another duck egg gamble. Blah, Blah, Blah
OneEye. I agree it wasn’t a great ride, my point that the horse is a b***ard, made in look alot worse though.
Your assumption that I know little about horse racing is far from the mark. For the record when you leave school tonight, watch the 4.40 from Yarmouth and tell me if the horse was hanging or was Jamie Spencer trying not to win. The horse opened oncourse at 5/1 drifted out to 7/1, and touched 10 on Betfair before the race. If it had got turned over I dare say that you would have been calling for Mr Spencer’s head, and claiming that this was another "bent" race. In my uneducated opinion this horse is another b***ard but this was an excellent ride.
OneEye. Your obviously an expert on the subject of riding a thoroughbred. I had always thought that not many horses run in a straight line, hence a jockey being on it’s back. Maybe we should have racing with no jockeys, that way all the horses would break in an even line when leaving the stalls, pace themselves perfectly during the course of the race, run in a straight line, and then try their hardest in the finish.
The ride didn’t look great, but by the same token the horse looks a complete *******.
Wilkins has left Victor as well. Interesting times.
Horses are "plotted" up like Stefanki every day of the week. Yesterday it came off with a horse who had form in the book, and was obviously open to massive improvement. Today Royal Holiday bombed out, having been backed from 14/1 this morning to an S/P of 9/2. If he had gone in I’m sure that the same people would have been calling Brian Ellison all the names under the sun, the fact is some punts go in but more go astray. It’s the intrigue of it all that makes Horse Racing such a puzzle. If you expect every horse to run on its merits everyday of the week, then your going to end up disappointed, and are better off looking for all alternative sport to follow.
I wonder if Alan still goes "Against The Crowd"?
A few years ago I had a friend who worked in a call centre for a bookmaker. He used to look after alot of the high roller accounts, and would let me know which owners/trainers were backing their own horses. Most of these horses would contract noticably during the course of the day as the word got around. This was pre exchanges when you could get a bet on with your bookmaker. In the current climate people that know the time of day are restricted with the bookmakers, and due to poor liquidity, can’t get on until late on the exchanges. The dramatic collapse of prices is purely down to the right people with the right information all trying to get on at the same time, coupled with people jumping on the bandwagon once they see the price falling. By the same token if there is no money for a horse from a shrewd yard, then it drifts massively as people assume it isn’t off.
The problem with following the market blind is there appears to be a lot of "spoof" gambles going on from certain yards.
Do you know where I could access stats like that Cav. I would be most interested if they are available.
Surely Mr Brown should be looking to sell off the remainder of the gold reserves. If he thought £186 an ounce was a good price ten years ago, surely £669 an ounce today is a cracking deal.
Either way, I would love racing to acquire the Tote. 20 years from now there will only be 2 ways to bet. Exchanges and Pool.
The facts are sometimes very hard to prove, as I’m sure Paul Scotney will testify.
What do you class as fact Smithy? Seeing it with my own eyes, or being told by someone that works in the yard?
