Harry Topper was made for this race with his seemingly limitless stamina, class and love for heavy ground.

Of course his jumping is always an issue and he will have to lump round a big weight.Would like to see him have a pipe opener before as well ideally but will be having a few quid on him no matter what as he is a horse I have always followed.

Looks like I have missed the price on Drumacoo…sea of blue on oddschecker :negative:

Absolutely, and please don’t take this as me knocking CC,it was a quite brilliant performance and it’s certainly not sour grapes as I did not even have a bet in the race.

One point I will make though is that Coney’s “best” was recorded in his novice season.Given the natural improvement of chasers in their second season and how lightly raced the horse has been (just 6 chase starts),I think it is possible for him to improve on the figure he reached in the Gold Cup when he is fully wound up whereas,as you say,Cue Card is unlikely to find any further improvement at his age.

While he does have a good record fresh,if you have a look at the horses he has beaten first time out then it just doesn’t compare to Saturday.Beating Dell’Arca a length is certainly nothing special, and he improved for the run by winning the Feltham doing handstands.Last year he beat a pair of average handicappers Seventh Sky and Southfield Theatre and unfortunately we did not see him again.

Yes,he likes soft ground but even so was entitled to get tired and be a bit ring rusty. As I say,it seems he retains his old enthusiasm for jumping a fence and that is the most important thing for me.

Maybe I am blinded by loyalty but I just think this animal is an absolute machine!Personally I would be aiming him at the Lexus before Cheltenham but what do I know?!

Like you say,it is all about opinions and lets just hope they can get Don Cossack back to form so we can see him,Coneygree,Cue card,Thistlecrack and Djackadam battle it out in March…now that really would be a race for the ages! :good:

Is Cue Card the only horse that can come on for a run then?

Let’s not forget he got beaten by dodgepot Menorah the last time, whereas Coneygree has had one race in 18 months.

Just watched the race back a couple of times as I was working on Saturday and couldn’t give it the full attention it deserved.

CC was obviously magnificent, but looking again I was more impressed with Coneygree than I originally was.Got tapped for toe by an exceptional, race fit horse but battled on courageously before being eased down completely after the last by RJ.He certainly retains his enthusiasm for jumping, which was always his main asset as it allows him to constantly make ground on rivals with his front running style.

If he was to have a good prep and got soft ground in the gold cup then I’m hopeful,if not entirely confident, that he could turn the form of Saturday around.I think the Bradstocks would have left a fair bit to work on and it must help that they only really have one horse of note in the yard,as they can devote all their time on getting him set for the big one.Plus of course NDB will be back on board.

Still, can’t whack Cue Card.Every time I doubt him he just keeps putting up these brilliant performances, has cost me a packet these past few years as I always seem to be against him but you can only admire a horse still doing things like that at nearly 11.

Anyone heard if Drumacoo is turning up for this?

Had him marked down as a chaser to follow after his romp at Huntingdon last year and although he disappointed next time out (possible bounce),prepared to give him another chance especially as I assume he would be off a virtual featherweight.

Cheers fella’s,probably the first time I have ever been on the right end of a Jonjo plot!

That being said I did feel desperately sorry for Village Vic and his supporters. He really is a gutsy animal, and a superb ride by RJ even in defeat.

On the other end of the spectrum there is Buywise, what an old rogue eh?!I finally gave up on him after this race last year…a touch of the old Tidal Bays about him!I hope he has his day in the sun one day though,he deserves it.

I’ve been all over Taquin Du Seuil for this since his run at Chepstow. With the forecast rain, the only thing bothering me is the trainer form but we all know that Jonjo can get one ready for the big day and it looks to me like TDS has been trained with this race in mind.

They usually run like drains when I stick them up on here, so hoping for a change of luck in that regard!

    Good luck all :good:

    Come on Japan!

They deserve a winner,I was actually at Longchamp in 2012 when Orfevre absolutely threw the race away and thought the Japanese fella next to me was going to throw himself off the grandstand!

You are right of course but I saw there was some rain about on Friday and am hoping against hope that it continues into the weekend.

Taking a bit of comfort from DW pulling Fascinating Rock and leaving Harzand in,he must be fit and well at least.

Won’t be having a punt until the day and,if he is a non runner,it’s a watching race for me.

Looking at the field now,I will be backing Harzand in this.Reminds me a bit of Workforce who as a Derby winner who was overlooked for the Arc after one poor run in between.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t think he is a world beater, but wouldn’t have to be in this field.

While having a strong chance,Postponed looks woeful short at 2/1 and I just do not believe the hype around him,Found seems to be becoming a professional second these days and while the Japanese horse looks tough,I can’t see him winning.

Did the men in the white coats let you out of your straight jacket MoyenneCorniche..?
Great run in 4th for Mehronissa.

    Conditional discharge! :good:

Ran an absolute screamer, not enough to get me paid of course, but a screamer nonetheless.

    QR very impressive,well done winners.

I think I have finally lost the plot…I’ve backed Mehronissa e/w!

Would need Limato to be a NR or have a shocker to win the race, but going through the form of the two horses she beat at Pontefract puts her right in the mix with the others as long as the ground doesn’t get too soft (won on g/s).

Trainer in fine form and has supplemented her for the race, which for Ed Vaughan is a bit of a statement in itself.Seems to be an improving in-form filly.Stall 17 not brilliant.

50/1 with Betway,I’m off to get fitted for the straight jacket.

I think when it is close like this then it is a decent little sideshow, especially when it could go to one of the slightly lesser lights like Crowley who doesn’t get many top rides at all.

I remember Spencer throwing the kitchen sink at his last mount on the last day to go equal with SS,probably the only time he has ridden a horse like that in his entire career and just shows he can do it when he wants.

Struggling to explain the stinker that Easton Angel ran today.Perhaps a combination of the draw, ground and not being quite as good as I thought.Probably wouldn’t have beaten Mecca today even if at her best but, even so,ran like an absolute drain. :-(

WD winners though, thought MA was hugely impressive! :good:

Aiden virtually told us the result yday.

    With hindsight,he did yes.

I cannot be alone in not believing a word that comes out of his mouth though.

Interesting point about what will happen if MA is a NR,and something that I foolishly hadn’t considered before now.

Still,if the worst happens,PM knows the horse well and should know how to ride her by now hopefully!
