Interesting that Venetia has kept L’homme Presse fresh for this, I hadn’t realised his record first time out was quite so good.
There’s nothing else in the race to be particularly scared of so he will do for me at 11s.
The writing has been on the wall for a long time unfortunately. In the last 9 months he’s had two terrible racecourse gallops, dirty scopes, colic, wind surgery and lameness. That is quite a list to rack up for any horse.
Personally the alarm bells really started ringing when it was announced he’d had wind surgery over the summer, where did that suddenly come from? He was obviously struggling at home for them to do that because he’d never shown any evidence of breathing issues on the track.
The whole situation has been handled unbelievably badly by probably the most experienced trainer in the game.
Winner winner, chicken dinner!
Congrats on ending your Salisbury curse apracing and what a way to do it.
18/1 as well so hope you backed it, I wish I had!
Slightly above average jockey making hay while the sun shines (and good luck to him).
Someone like Aiden Coleman would likely do just as well with the same ammunition.
I used to really like Punchestown but the Grade 1s today are pretty depressing.
Novice hurdle WPM has 3/5 runners and the first three in the betting.
Champion Chase WPM has 4/6 runners and the first three in the betting.
Novice chase WPM has 4/6 runners and only the HDB horse stopping him dominating the betting there as well.
To be honest I couldn’t be less enthused.
I stick up for jockeys a lot but that is completely indefensible.
Tried to give it the charlie big potatoes and has only succeeded in looking like a complete mug.
The sheer hypocrisy I have heard from some of the general public makes me want to vomit.
“Ban the Grand National, it’s cruel” they shout, just before they tuck into their dinner of battery farmed chicken kievs.
Bloody vegan cranks the lot of them.
I really hope you are right and today is the day. I haven’t given up on him yet but after so many near misses my patience is starting to wear a little thin, hence the “butter” comment!
Hitman is as soft as butter and has cost me fortunes over the last couple of years but he surely has to win one of these races eventually, even if its by sheer good fortune.
7s seems a fair price.
My point was that if football had a handicapping system, then you would see routine dodgy incidents occur.
Also where is the line here? Is a horse being backed from 5/1 into 2/1 ok but 10/1 into 2/1 is an integrity issue?
They have opened up a can of worms here.
I don’t think the comparison to football is relevant really, unless they are going to start putting lead weights in the Manchester City players jockstraps the next time they play Southampton.
Why did they wait until two minutes from the off before intervening when the money had come for the horse many hours before the race?
Also, surely the horse has to run first and it’s performance evaluated before they can make a case against anyone?
Are connections not allowed to back their horse if they fancy it now?
If the BHA’s aim is to kill off the sport completely, they are going the right way about it.
Magical Zoe has won pulling a cart three times in a row.
She’s definitely gone under the radar here and 14/1 is a great e/w price I think.
The one I’m drawn to here down at the foot of the weights is the filly Thetys for Tony Martin.
Only a couple of lengths behind Tekao at Navan in November getting 7lb but she’ll be getting 22lb off him here.
Will she get a run though?
Quite interested in Frero Banbou in this.
Came from absolutely miles back to finish 3rd in the race last year, might have been 2nd without a horrendous blunder at the last, and is 6lb better off this time around.
Got to be worth a few quid at 25s.
Thanks ID, he’s obviously in good nick so fingers crossed!
