You’ve got to learn the code…left hand on the stalls just before the off means "lay me for your entire bank, as I’m about to jump off", right hand on stalls means "back me, I’m a certainty".
September 16, 2009 at 01:48 in reply to: Another horse disqualified – Jockey weighs in 8ozs too light #248985Those disqualifications cost me a few quid – I got the best in-running price about Radar Love on Betfair (£3 at 500) and I had a £2200 swing on the Meehan-trained thing (I’m terrible with names) in the Lingfield AW claimer (minus 700 instead of +£1500). That one sent me on tilt. Guess I should be grateful that I was at Bangor last Friday instead of in a betting exchange.
Apparantly, Andrew Thornton took a dump after weighing out on Radar Love and it had nothing to do with faulty scales. Wonder what he had for dinner the night before?
Have we been taken over by the Betfair forum?
Miss N Carberry on bumper (clear) favs in Ireland before today…
64 winners from 177 runners (36.2%)
+£0.80 to £1 level stakeWould show a loss if joint or co-favs included
For Noel Meade only..
36/82
+£19.09I’ve had this in a Betfred shop before. A friend of mine asked, after having backed a loser, whether he was on in time. He wasn’t, so was given his £400 back. Had he not asked it would have just gone into baldy’s rapidly diminishing coffers. The moral of the story is…never trust a company whose owner insists of having his ugly mug all over his promotional material (see Victor Kiam).
Greg Wood’s different gravy.
Looks like an announcement from William Hill is imminent on taking its online business to Gibraltar.
Does that mean I’ll only be allowed 25 euro on instead of 25 quid?
It’s a disgrace – he should have been retired years ago…..
…yes, I backed the runner-up
Honest and reputable as far as paying out goes and backed by several shops in the north-west. The on-course operation caused great amusement when they turned up at Ludlow with a sign reading "No trade, no fractions, no workmen".
I think Regal Parade’s victory at Lingfield last night had more to do with a massive draw bias (he grabbed the stands’ rail) on the straight turf track. His price held up in-running despite him racing on the fastest strip – I had a couple of early clicks then made the mistake of galncing down at the paper, looking at the trainer’s name and laying him back.
My brother (Petski on here), received a letter from Stan James advising him that they were no longer offering him best odds guaranteed because they had noticed that lots of his winners started at bigger odds.
Let me guess – dogs at Crayford?
Still can’t have Hevelius though – he’d find trouble in a match
Spot on imo.
The Swinburn horse are doing fine when they want to. The best angle with Walter’s horses is to only back the ones sent to the front early. Their the real buzzers from this yard, you’d have made piles from doing this over the last 18 months.
Of course playing in-running with conventional technology is another matter entirely.
I’d never noticed that before. 43% of Swinburn’s winners this year made all or most of the running (nine from 21). Six tracked/chased leaders and six were held up. Fahey stats are 19%, 53% and 28%.
The number of times you here pundits or presenters make generalisations such as "so and so’s horses always come on for a run" or "he can get one ready first time out" I want to ask where’s the evidence please.
Colin
Good point but it’s not just pundits who make this mistake…some trainers are similarly guilty. Brendan Duke has often described Openide as a "7lb better horse at Cheltenham" despite the fact that he hasn’t won there since April 2005 and his last three British wins have come at Market Rasen, Stratford and Uttoxeter!
Causeway King, ex-Mark Johnston, caught the eye on his debut for Alan King when mid-division in a 1m Kempton handicap earlier this month. He should improve when stepped up to 1m2f+ and looks the type to land a couple of small races on the Flat before being switched to hurdles.
I know Glynn – his son is in my Scoop6 syndicate. Please PM nature of your query/contact details and I’ll pass them on
Don’t wish to worry you but rumour has it that an increase in the premium charge is being considered. Lets face it, it went from zero to 20% with very little resistance from Betfair users, so why not 25% or more?
From Betfair….
Betfair Customer Services 29 Jun 13:13
We have been contacted by several customers in relation to an article in Sunday’s News of the World. We would like to make it clear that Betfair was not asked to comment on, or validate any aspect of, the article ahead of publication.Although we cannot comment on the activities of any specific customer, some facts which may be relevant to some of the claims made in the article include:
the biggest winner in the relevant Britain’s Got Talent market (Susan Boyle winner – Yes/No) won less than £3,000.
No Betfair customer won £1.5 million or anything even vaguely approaching that amount betting on the Champion Hurdle.
No Betfair customer won £500,000 or anything even vaguely approaching that amount laying Monsieur Chevalier at Royal Ascot
The figures shown in the account statement screenshot in the News Of the World do not reconcile to any Betfair account.
The monies present in a Betfair account are obviously no indicator of the sums won or lost on the account.
We would encourage customers to be wary of the claims of anyone purporting to have a profitable system or strategy.
We would encourage customers to retain a healthy degree of scepticism toward any claims made in the press which are not validated by Betfair.
