I just had to Google Round the Horne to double check that my memory of it being on the radio on Sundays was correct, and it was. Takes me right back to being in the living room listening to it.

“Reform UK’s council experiment is in more chaos…

At Staffordshire County Council, the Reform UK administration still has no permanent leader.

Reform say Chris Large stepped down due to a family bereavement, and colleagues offered condolences at the latest full council meeting. But like his predecessor Ian Cooper, Large has also faced allegations over racist social media activity. In his case, a TikTok account bearing his name was accused of making or endorsing racist comments. He denied being personally responsible, condemned the posts, and said multiple people had access to the account.

Before that, Cooper resigned as leader after being expelled by Reform for failing to disclose a social media account. He has faced allegations over racist posts and was reported to have been a “Top Fan” of a white supremacist Facebook group. He now sits as an independent councillor.

Now the council chamber is dominated by rows over racism claims, apologies, absences and protesters outside the building.

This is not stable leadership. It is dysfunction. ⚠️

Allegations around social media accounts. Claims of racist and misogynistic remarks. Senior figures missing from key meetings. Opposition councillors warning residents feel afraid. Protesters chanting “Large out. Mason out. Cooper out.”

    And still no permanent leader.

When Conservative councillors are openly saying people fear living in the area because of Reform, that is not Westminster spin. That is a governing crisis playing out in real time at county level.

And let’s be clear. This is how they operate locally. We have seen it first hand. Councillors, their families and supporters pursued with baseless accusations. Individuals targeted online. Manufactured outrage. Division as strategy.

This is not just a Staffordshire story. It is a pattern seen in Kent, Durham, Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire.🧵

If this is how Reform governs one county council, imagine handing them more power”

“Warrington’s only Reform councillor has defected to the Conservatives after just months in the role.

John Roddy, elected in August 2025, says he repeatedly raised detailed concerns about the town’s spiralling finances, only to be met with silence. Emails unanswered. No serious engagement. No credible local strategy.

According to Roddy, Warrington’s financial crisis was “not a priority”.

Reform says he was expelled for allegedly trying to damage the party. Roddy says there was no serious team structure, no detailed policy, no economic plan. Just headlines.

And here’s the thing… this isn’t news in Warrington. 😬

Back in October, after Reform UK suspended its Warrington branch, local member Terry White quit. He didn’t go quietly.

    He said Reform:
😬 Welcomed two former BNP members to local meetings
❌ Had no local policies whatsoever and just wanted members to to push national messages about migration
🤐 Silenced members who spoke up
🪂 Tried to parachute in an MP candidate who doesn’t even live in Warrington

White said the party talks about democracy, free speech and strong local communities. But when challenged locally, dissent is shut down and issues are brushed aside. 🤯

They want to run the country.
They can’t even run local branches.”
Not sure if this has been posted already but I’m losing track of all of them. But thank goodness we have Reform to keep this country on the straight and narrow…

I’ve often wondered how some top NH horses would get on running on the flat. To be fair to Henderson he’s run lots of his horses on the flat. It’ll be a great pity if Constitution Hill gets balloted out of the race.

She was my idea of a real life ‘National Velvet’ (one of my favourite books) and I dearly wanted her to win the National. I miss seeing her ride over here.

Yes. Once it’s in peoples heads it stays there, especially if they want to believe it.

So the greyhound track will go, too. That means there won’t be any tracks that do flat racing near to where I live. I must admit to not going there these days but that’s only because we have a lockdown dog that can’t be left. Michael Stoute also used to run his youngsters there, too. Great little track. Both horse and dog racing is slowly dying in this country. Used to be a great jumping track, too. Didn’t Foinavon run there at one time? He fell and they found him lying on his side happily munching the grass? ( might be getting him mixed up with another horse though).

I still love folk music and listen to the Folk on Foot podcast ( just about to listen to this months folk music chart).Johnny Flynn and Lankum being current favourites.Used to find a new favourite band when Glastonbury was on each year but that hasn’t happened in recent years. I did find Hazel Winters video for The Candyman Walks on utube; it still had a huge emotional effect on me but was not an optimist one. I think that podcasts have taken over from listening to music as there are so many good ones ( mainly history ones) to listen to. I’ve always meant to listen to more classical music, if only to enable me to answer more questions on University Challenge. But don’t know where to start.

Adam Nicol has got a 50% strike rate over the past two weeks and he literally trains at sea level on the beach. ( mind you he doesn’t have many runners!)

One of the reasons why Dessie didn’t run in the race was because he had an ongoing back problem which they were always working on and they reckoned the canal turn would exacerbate it ( at least that’s what they told me).

I’ve always liked the LibDems and have campaigned for them in the past. But I’m furious with Ed Davey for calling for a vote of no confidence in Starmer given the mess they made of being in the coalition ( and his involvement in the post office scandal). Both Labour and the Conservative Party are full of pretty inexperienced politicians and Starmer himself is relatively new to politics. Alastair Campbell pointed out that people don’t seem to realise what a difficult job being PM is. I think a lot of Labour MPs thought the top job was up for grabs and have made fools of themselves because they have since received a lot of letters supporting Keir. Billy Bragg is asking people to vote for radical left wing politicians which will split votes and let in Reform. Alas the very people that need a socialist government are voting for Reform ( as if they’re there for working or unemployed people ( they’re the party for bitcoin, offshore accounts and money laundering). I’ve just been listening to various interviews with the man who wrote the biography about Andrew ‘Entitled’. Can’t get my head round how far reaching this scandal is with links to Russia, the far east Kazabakstan ( wherever that is), China etc etc. I’ve tried not to get drawn into it all but it’s like staring to watch a very good box set that’s on iplayer…even Michelle Mome has been mentioned…

I’m a lifelong Labour voter and am in despair at what is happening. If Keir does stand down my only hope is that he becomes foreign secretary, because he has such a good relationship with foreign leaders. This has taken years to build. As to who would replace him I’m at a loss. I really don’t like Lammy. I do like Rayner but not as leader. Always thought of Darren Jones as a future leader but not quite yet. And I hope another leader will continue to rebuild our ties with Europe.

“This all goes back to Cameron being so scared of Farage that he called the referendum and then Johnson……….”

What has this got to do with this Starmer thread?

Starmer will resign v soon; possibly this week – this particular ‘buck’ stops with him.”
I was refer back to what Homer said. No Ned to be quite so rude…
