Yes. I’m on the gransnet forum. People on there have said for years that they give the WFP to charity because they don’t need it and are now complaining about its removal. I’ve always been in the not rich but not quite poor enough to qualify for any benefits and I’m ok with it as long as the government reach out to those people who should be claiming pension credit but aren’t. I’ll just hibernate for the winter, which is what me and the dog do anyway. Catchup tv, a duvet and a whippet hot water bottle will do me.
I worked at our local surgery at a time when doctors would be on call all night and then have to turn up for work the next morning. I used to have extra strong coffee waiting for them. Seems like a different era now!
What happened to the girl that Radacanu beat in America? Has she gone on to achieve anything?

Seem to remember getting a train from Weston called The Yatton Special? I loved having donkey rides at the seaside: got a photo of me looking really worried as they were coming round for payment as my dad was taking the photo. Isn’t the current problem that they don’t want to fat shame the children that are too fat to be on the donkeys? Imo the more contact children have with animals the more they grow up caring about them. I know people have mixed feelings about zoos but I wonder if I’d feel so passionate about animal conservation if I hadn’t seen elephants and tigers in zoos. Standing at London Zoo with just a sheet of glass between me and the most beautiful tiger is something I’ll never forget.
I’d love a cat cafe to go to. I no longer have cats, partly because they tie you down too much and I spend a lot of time at Mikes but mainly because I lost too many on the road ( our village used to be like an extension of the M1 before the A50 was built) I tried having house cats but that never seemed right. I look on my whippet as a cat substitute. Oh the years when Ding Ding used to race. With her running style I’d be screaming Ding Ding at the end of her races. Legend.
I was in a bookies when Jaqueline Quest won the Guineas and was disqualified and I took my winnings back to the counter to ask if I should keep it ( I did, it was first past the post). It was only about £5 though…I believe too much in karma to take money that isn’t mine.
I’ve always wanted to go to Plumpton because I follow Sheena Wests horses but I’ll never get there as it’s far too far! She always has a little superstar in her yard but they’ll never be as wonderful as Ding Ding! We went to Rose Dobbins open day a couple of years ago: these open days in September are a great idea. Went to Steph Hollinsheads yard years ago at Cannock Chase. The best part of that being that she had a kitchen full of rescue whippets in various stages if decrepitude; she’s such a dog lover.
Obviously didn’t have the desired effect then!
Oh dear. I’m struggling with the fact that, when I started to get really upset about the fatalities in the National ( which had up till then been my favourite day in the year) I fell in love with The Ebor which became my favourite race, especially as we used to go to it when it was on a Wednesday.I was a bag of nerves anyway with Wise Eagle running. If only he hadn’t come second to such good horses in some races. I do wish the handicapper would ease up a bit on these older horses.
Megan rocking the schoolgirl look on ITV Racing today: shades of Britney Spears methinks!
Wise Eagle. Doesn’t know he’s the outsider and has the heart of a lion. Not to be discounted if he’s staying on at the end.
Big G. Have you had a total knee replacement? I’m heading towards needing one but when I see how long recuperation takes it worries me. Although Mike and I spend a lot of time together we don’t live together and I’d have to have a massive rethink about the layout of my house.
But you’re the one that has turned this into an argument.
I’d rather question how a horse came to lose its life and get it wrong than not question it at all. If we do that we’ll never improve racing safety.
Maybe it’s good that some racing fans don’t just have an attitude of ‘ they’re horses, it happens’. I think your attitude is disrespectful to the horses griff and I wish you’d keep them away from what is meant to be a recognition of a horses life.
Currently watching a programme on BBC4 about corporal punishment that is a bit of an eye opener. It’s only when attitudes change that you look back and realise how wrong something was. Although I can’t imagine in ten years time looking back and thinking how good it is that nobody calls anyone pet any more.I must admit to hating it when someone replies to something I’ve said with ‘oh bless’. Somebody called me ‘bab’ on a Birmingham Facebook page the other day though, and it took me back decades and I loved it.
