Didn’t John Magnier start off looking at the pedigrees of cattle and then decided to apply it to horses ( bit like Dream Alliances breeder starting off with pigeons and then applying it to horses)? Thinking about Aidan O’Briens achievement in winning the Derby yet again did make me ponder on how many trainers have been able to enter so many horses in the classics over the years. I can’t dislike Aidan though. We went to the Arc one year and he and Joseph spent so much time chatting to people and signing autographs that I really warmed to him albeit there being certain aspects of the operation that I don’t like.

I’m a lifelong Labour voter but agree with what Cork All Star has said. I am still, however a Starmer supporter. I just think we need stability for a few years. And all of my local Labour MP’s who can see money being ploughed into our towns are firmly behind him. Surely everything will improve anyway once Trump has gone.

I just keep thinking that if her stamina came from Frankel what would Frankel have done over 12f?

But they don’t want to win that by election do they. They want Burnham to cause chaos in the government.

I’m still doing my neverending spring clean/declutter so spent last night listening to Robbie while I was working on the kitchen. The first episode was a recent one but then utube switched to older ones which I didn’t remember anyway. I find him good internet company being a bit like me; someone that loves meeting and chatting to people but also needing a lot of solitude ( which many people don’t understand). A lot of our boat people are like that. One was a retired sea captain who used to come to the surgery after everyone had left to avoid people. I used to go to his boat for a cuppa sometimes and he would tell me about his life.Robbie was Annie Sloaning some furniture in one programme which was probably round about the time that I was chalk painting everything.I’ll find a few more episodes tonight to keep me motivated.

“Henry Nowak’s family have asked that his death is not used to sew division and stoke hatred. Anyone fancy a guess as to who is doing just that?

You’d be forgiven for thinking that somebody wants more summer unrest.”
I was just going to mention that Richard. I’m still avoiding the news but Mike came round today and told me Farage had called some sort of emergency news conference to spew out racial hatred! Why is he allowed to do that when he refuses to be interviewed regarding anything negative about him?

Dangerous as riding a motorcycle is competitively being as sidecar passenger is even worse imo. Not even competively. Someone I know bought a new sidecar and travelling home it became detached from the bike and his wife was killed. A distant memory from childhood is going to a friends house and sitting in a motorbike sidecar. I have a vague recollection of it not having glass but a sort of yellow crinkly plastic or is that a false memory. The only thing that made being a pillion on my husbands bike bearable was realising I could pop sweets into my mouth as we were travelling, obviously trying to eat or drink anything else was impossible.

I got chatting to someone years ago who told me the thing to bet on in F1 is the constructors championship.Annoyingly it was at a flu clinic at work and there wasn’t time to find out as much as I wanted to. I used to love F1 but find it very boring these days. I fell asleep watching the ( I think) Japanese Grand Prix but woke up just as Schumacher pushed Damien Hill off the road. Never forgave him for that. And I liked Montoya. It then became very boring. We went to the Jim Clark museum in the borders which was interesting.

Forgot it was on. Is it repeated on another night? I live in a canal village. A lot of people, when they give up the boat move from the marina to one of the houses. They all still have a wanderlust, though. Thought he was planning to give up the boat and move in with his girlfriend. There’s a lovely programme that’s sometimes on BBC4 but might be on utube called River of Dreams which follows the River Trent from it’s source to the sea.

We had Nortons. My ex always planned to put a Norton engine in a Hillman Imp frame…or was it the other way round  He recently built some sort of bike. Not sure what it is. I went off the sport when Saarinen (sp) got killed. Mike Hailwood rode all those bikes for years and got killed driving a couple of miles up the road after he’d retired I believe. Funny old world.

I find it all rather sad. During the pandemic I was envious of Scotland having a grown up in charge.

I assume they still have mad Sunday in which non competitors try to kill themselves by riding round the circuit? My best ever cat came from the IOM. My husband was camping there and found a kitten in a hedge. Nobody claimed him so he lived in his tent for a week and he brought him back in a cardboard box inside his leathers. I’ll never forget being presented with this cardboard box in the early hours of the morning which I assumed was Manx kippers only to find a tiny black kitten who jumped out of the box and started chasing his tail. We called him Douglas and when he died we never had another cat that could replace him. A friend of ours used to compete in the Manx until he came off in the country one year and never did it again. Whether the injury affected him I don’t know because he was pretty mad to start off with. I can point out to spots all over the country where the bike broke down ( Mick never wanted one of those reliable Japanese bikes). In his mid seventies he’s still riding and building bikes and has replaced me with a biker girlfriend who is still riding bikes even though she’s had two serious accidents recently. I’d love to go back to the IOM as a proper tourist as it’s a beautiful place.

Don’t Haribos just taste like eating fruit flavoured rubber or have I never experienced the good ones?

I used to get through packets of crisps late at night ( cheese and onion) until my doctor told me my cholesterol was Sky high and wanted to put me on statins. When I dog sit at my daughters I struggle with the crisp cupboard along with the huge jars of Nutella which I can eat by the spoonful. With my new eating regime my guilty pleasure is having either tea bread or banana bread for breakfast ( either made or spread with Benecol).

It’s pretty commendable how they are able to switch production though, even if it means they can’t always be at the right racecourse. They always manage to be at Kelso, something that previous channels never did to my knowledge ( happy to be corrected).

To be fair to Kelso it was ladies day and looked pretty busy, very much a festive family day out( thankfully wasn’t there and didn’t watch it on WHill as Wise Eagle was in the race). My son asked me to take my granddaughter racing when she went through her pony phase but I refused, saying I was worried that she might witness a fatality. One of my first visits to a raceourse was when Kingsmill had a fatal fall in front of me at Aintree and I nearly walked away from the sport, I was so upset. I think fatalities and injuries are publicised more than they used to be as I used to take my daughter and her friends racing without worrying; I was pretty ignorant about fatalities back then ( pre internet). Difficult to get the balance right, I guess. Need to acknowledge what has happened without putting people off having a day at the races as it is probably the most family friendly of sports.
