Wouldn’t it be an easier course to ride and they also provided a pacemaker which they should have done at Newmarket?
Wondering if the rain has got into the ground so had a bet on Hotashell.
When we had a dog less year we did a lot of travelling around to places that we couldn’t go to with a dog. One of them was a trip to Wincanton races to meet up with a friend. I have a terrible sense of direction and never know where I am and two things stick in my mind from that trip. One was seeing Red Kites and knowing how to recognise them and, that same day, suddenly seeing Stonehenge in the distance ( not having known it was there) which totally overwhelmed me.
….mind you, I was so taken with Norways 2019 song that I was all for getting a reindeer and moving in with the Sami…
I’d never heard of her. Quite pop’y but also quirky and funny. I think your lad is good at picking up a good tune. Thankfully I now have an ear worm of the Albanian song which has superseded the awful UK one. I was so taken with the song that I checked out Albania and it looked like a great place to live in many ways until I read that it’s quite a patriarchal society with high levels of violence against women. Also having problems due to global warming. Health, education, public transport etc are very good, though. And, obviously, their music is good, too.
Believe it or not I, too, am trying to avoid politics at the moment because, in the words of the Monty Pythons ‘ my brain hurts…’.
I have now read the article albeit not in depth. I see that it mainly about the US.A country led by a president who thought people could drink bleach to cure themselves. It also refers, yet again to Sweden, saying that Sweden didn’t lock down, which isn’t actually true. Comparisons with the US and the UK can’t really be made because Sweden is more sparsely populated, people there tend to live rather healthy lifestyles. More people are solitary dwellers so people aren’t cramped into areas of high population density. I bet they have a pretty good healthcare system too, which wasn’t compromised by years of government underfunding. I do agree that it’s wrong that China have never been held to account for what seems to be pretty conclusive evidence that the virus did originate from a laboratory and, imo, when we talk about how countries suffered economically because of covid China should recompense the world in some way. Could we also agree that both the UK and the US had the worst possible leaders at the worst possible time and, if both of them had taken the threat seriously sooner (Johnson being too preoccupied with getting Brexit and his divorce done) maybe the lock downs etc might not have been needed. Either way, let’s hope that lessons have been learned from it although, I’m not holding my breath. I admit that I do get over emotional about it because I couldn’t believe that I saw it unfolding and nothing seemed to be being done about it. And I do know of people, not just my elderly friend but young people, who died.My grandson was supposed to be going on a school trip to China which was cancelled because something was kicking off in the country, but it was largely ignored. And let’s not forget that New Zealand’s early lock downs policy meant that very few people died there, although I admit that, as with Sweden, it isn’t really a country that compares to ours.
Education wrecked? The teachers were coming down with Covid. Children had online schooling. Key workers children were still being school educated.A cancer diagnosis probably meant going into hospital and catching Covid there. Have you forgotten how many doctors and nurses were dying during the pandemic! I made a point, being old, of shutting myself away for the duration of the pandemic so as not to put pressure on the NHS. Next time I’ll just make a point if trying to catch it and die asap,
So it was ok for people like me to die then? Thanks.
I still think we were right to lock down. People were dying and the NHS was overwhelmed. Have people forgotten that? It’s ok with hindsight to realise that the virus wouldn’t mutate and kill more people but we didn’t know at the time. Still, it doesn’t matter because it only seemed to target old people who ( as someone told me when my friend died) were going to die anyway. And no one knows where we would be now if the vaccines weren’t already being formulated.
Maybe lying is more a case sometimes of not having policies cast in stone when the world around you changes overnight ( eg Trump being re elected). Not the same as Farage saying he can stop illegal immigration instantly.Imo the biggest lie of all in recent years has been the vote leave red bus.As for Ireland, well, we kept saying that Ireland was going to be a huge problem if we left the EU but no one seemed to listen. Too busy banging on about fishing ( feel as if I’m in Groundhog Day currently…).
The UK song didn’t deserve no points, though. It did really well in the first round of voting. I’m still playing the Albania song: far and away the best one this year imo both lyrically and musically. The guy reminded me of Peter Gabriel and the meaning behind the song would have been something he’d write about, too.Out of interest Nathan, what sort of music does your lad like in general? He has very good taste. I must start listening to the sings much earlier next year.
The far left didn’t support vote remain. I did a lot of campaigning both pre and post referendum and it was mainly with Conservative and LibDem supporters. The far left have always been Europe sceptics. And UKIP were a threat to the Conservatives. If not how come Reform have now overtaken the Conservatives in the polls. Unfortunately the party tried to be more UKIP than UKIP instead of sticking to the middle ground and it has destroyed them. Not helped by Johnson throwing out many of the decent members of his party and Truss trashing the economy.
GSP. You do realise that the ECHR protects you and me. And that Brexit took us out of the Dublin Arrangement which is why we can’t send migrants back to another EU country.
Do you really believe that Farage is the saviour of this country?
Only just heard about this….
The UK government is investing £360 million in a new Fishing and Coastal Growth Fund to support the UK fishing industry. This investment will focus on modernizing the fishing fleet, improving workforce skills, and revitalizing coastal communities to boost tourism, according to the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs. The fund is part of a wider agreement with the EU that grants the UK access to more fishing opportunities and allows European trawlers to fish in UK waters for a further 12 years.
Government to launch £360m Fishing and Coastal Growth Fund
20 hours ago — A major investment will modernise Britain’s fishing fleet, enhance workforce skills, and revitalise coastal communities. The people who voted for Brexit are no better off for it. And the people who didn’t vote for it are no better off. I resent the fact that those who did vote for it are now complaining about a trade deal that might just make us all better off. I think they’re the ones being spiteful if that is the case.
