They have all calculated there is no point challenging now. Why be responsible for the by-election defeat and the disastrous local election results? But they know Starmer is mortally wounded and now politically isolated without McSweeney and Allen.
I expect those who want to take over are also mindful of the adage of whoever wields the dagger never gets to wear the crown.
They also know there is still plenty more material from the Epstein files to be revealed.
February 10, 2026 at 12:51 #1754170If you google ‘associates of Epstein’ you will get a long list including Donald Trump. Many will have done worse things than Mandelson, but they are supported by billionaires and therefore they are above the law. The legal system in America has effectively collapsed. Their Supreme Court was about to rule whether Trump’s tariffs were legal or not constitutionally. Silence demonstrates what is going on.
Many Labour MP’s understand this which is why they will support him. In turn Starmer needs to appoint someone heading communications who will tell him the views of his backbenchers. Once this is in place, Labour can move forward. Those screaming Starmer is finished should grow up and realise what is really happening.
February 10, 2026 at 15:09 #1754185Just watched Starmer in Hertfordshire jesus the man is hard work. Sorry he just ain’t cut out for this.
Then again who is now days?

It’s a fair point. For all the (understandable) calls for a replacement, who is actually up to the job in Labour and what will it actually change? Then you look at the opposition. Badenoch is useless, Reform peddle fantasy. I’d sooner give the Lib Dems or Greens a go, at least they’d actually try something different. The current crop of politicians really are mostly drawn from the shallow end of the talent pool.
February 10, 2026 at 17:46 #1754194I’ve always liked the LibDems and have campaigned for them in the past. But I’m furious with Ed Davey for calling for a vote of no confidence in Starmer given the mess they made of being in the coalition ( and his involvement in the post office scandal). Both Labour and the Conservative Party are full of pretty inexperienced politicians and Starmer himself is relatively new to politics. Alastair Campbell pointed out that people don’t seem to realise what a difficult job being PM is. I think a lot of Labour MPs thought the top job was up for grabs and have made fools of themselves because they have since received a lot of letters supporting Keir. Billy Bragg is asking people to vote for radical left wing politicians which will split votes and let in Reform. Alas the very people that need a socialist government are voting for Reform ( as if they’re there for working or unemployed people ( they’re the party for bitcoin, offshore accounts and money laundering). I’ve just been listening to various interviews with the man who wrote the biography about Andrew ‘Entitled’. Can’t get my head round how far reaching this scandal is with links to Russia, the far east Kazabakstan ( wherever that is), China etc etc. I’ve tried not to get drawn into it all but it’s like staring to watch a very good box set that’s on iplayer…even Michelle Mome has been mentioned…

More evidence if you needed it that it’s billionaires who are the problem. Complains about benefit claimants whilst trousering £120m of taxpayers’ cash for his company whilst sitting on £17 billion. Complains about immigrants and lives in Monaco. Utterly beyond contempt.

February 12, 2026 at 12:36 #1754351Ratcliffe is sorry that some people found his comments offensive. Typical non apology, blaming people for being ‘offended’. Vile individual. His numbers on population were completely wrong too, that’s a simple fact. You’d think that a wealthy businessman would be good with maths. If he has to make up figures to ‘prove’ his point then maybe things aren’t as bad as he is suggesting.
