Horrible news about a genuine and tough campaigner.
Impressive sight to see the grey at his best carving through the field.
I don’t mean this to sound sour or that it would necessarily have made any difference but I personally felt that the 11 year owed nothing and should have been retired at the end of last season.
The future for him was unavailingly trying to concede weight to younger and less exposed horses in h’caps and trying to avoid the Irish in conditions hurdles

Maybe not the greatest ever, but well worth worthy of mention was the excellent Hughie Morrison winning first time up with Tom Paddington who was returning after 4 years off due to injury

Any idea what the future holds for Celeritas?
What reflections do you have on the season’s experience? us not involved have enjoyed watching out for him.
The horse was openly campaigned and early placings indicated that he might win a race. However he got a stiff h’cap mark for nurseries, seemed to regress and a gelding op. didn’t improve performance.
Was leasing him the way to go?
Is a 2 yr old the best option?
What about a more specialist juvenile trainer than a mixed yard?
What about his campaigning?
Did the agreement preclude running in a seller/claimer which seemed the best end of season option?
Any ownership plans for next season?
A good test tomorrow. Several last time out winners, a useful Nicholls horse plus the Pipe trained Zeta’s River.

Might have already seen the last of le Vei dei Colori as reportedly he goes to Hong Kong if invited but definitely to stud at end of the season

    Quote from Steve

"I don’t know the rules on jockey changes in a race, but I do remember the stooshie kicked up when Fallon replaced a claimer on a gambled on horse in a minor race a couple of years ago".
Above was at Brighton when an unknown apprentice failed to appear for his pre-booked ride on a Mark Wallace horse (apparently stuck in traffic or lost on the motorway) and Fallon took the winning ride after a gamble

btw, on another note, on channel 4 they had a little interview with him and i think he said that george washington would not race again this year – could someone confirm this please??

That’s what he said.Basically he said he withdrew the horse because he didn’t want to bottom it out and sour it for next year by running on going he described as yielding.
Confusion might have been caused by a report on telextext that he would go for the Racing post Trophey next week

Is the plan still to send him to the sales in October?

Good luck though he may struggle to beat the Godolphin runner in particular and perhaps Hannon and Elsworth reps..

The three winners the other day were encouraging, although expensive recruit Mikado (ex O’Brien on the flat) trailed in fifth on first try over hurdles whilst backed to do well.
Acid test is whether yard fires in big winners.
Big meetings different kettle of fish to M.Rasen and Uttoxeter

To clarify my comments about Flashy Wings.
Admirable season but finished with 2 defeats.
Pipped in the sales race at odds on .Excuses were weight concession plus nothing to race with.
3rd in the Cheveley Park beaten not far but fair and square. On that occasion she looked and ran like a 2 yr old filly who has been racing since mid April and was crying enough.
Can be expensive making excuses for beaten horses.
Reckon others will improve past her.

Squeezed at the start at Windsor today and effectively no chance thereafter.
Plan as posted is one more race before off to the sales.
What do you have in mind?

    Correct.
Weekend results in France illustrated the relative strenght of the Balldoyle outfit juveniles compared with Godolphin.
I understand that Ballydoyle have another potential top notcher as yet unseen on the course (name escapes me).
Of course Godolphin have bought up Silca`s Sister who will now be at the top of the 1000 Guineas market with Rumpelstilskin now that Flashy Wings has been exposed.
Admirable though the performance was, it was difficult to be too taken with Amadeus Wolf`s performance last week in a 6 runner or so affair.
Red Clubs- reliable yardstick.
Hannon reckons others in his yard will improve past his colts in the list.
