Interesting stuff EC and generally a very good debate on this.

IMHO they ran the better horse
but not the opinion of the jockey, trainer, owner, official handicapper or form book.

True Aidan, but if i belived those opinions, i’d end up skint ;)
October 16, 2005 at 21:58 #95403yeah, poor decision with rakti. Shouldve been a NR then gone to Hong Kong Cup.
I feel gutted about le vie dei colori, as ive just started to really take into consideration the visor/blinkers/cheek pieces into my form check, and had i seen visored for the 1st time at20/1, having been a Group 1 winner in italy, maybe i would have done him a couple quid EW, but its all very well saying that.

Rakti was beaten 4.5 lengths pulling hard throughout and meeting trouble in running, not bad for a horse who needs ground like a road to be at his best
October 16, 2005 at 22:33 #95406Might have already seen the last of le Vei dei Colori as reportedly he goes to Hong Kong if invited but definitely to stud at end of the season

Mr Jarvis is without doubt one of the best trainers going and i don’t think he’d run his stable star, just to get a run
I know a couple of decent judges who were backing this horse(whether they did i don’t know) and i don’t think they’d contemplate backing a horse if they thought the ground was against said beast
October 17, 2005 at 04:30 #95410Seems those crazy handicappers at Timeform rate HN 119p better than GW 118p and Rumplestiltskin 116 top filly
Good judges ?

October 17, 2005 at 10:49 #95411I agree with rakti being best when had a long drought. if so, let me put this to you. He quite clearly is still a brilliant force and well up to Group 1 quality. On his only run this year when the ground was in favour of him, he won by 5lengths. I think they should run him max 3 times next year and then retire him.
Lockinge – QE2 (provided ground is in favour. If not, then Champions Stakes) and then the Hong Kong cup. That is what i would do if i were tanaka.

128 LE VE DEI COLORI
119 SIR PERCY
112 DAVID JUNIOR
103 SPECIOSA
98 ENFORCER
EC, my timeratings for the straight course on Saturday were Le Vie Dei Colori 106/ Sir Percy 115/ David Junior 112/ Speciosa 104/ Enforcer 99. We’re either identical or very similar on four out of five but a long way apart on LVDC. His time was 1.18 secs faster than Sir Percy carrying the same weight over the same course and distance. A second at 7f equals 11.9lbs on my calculations so 1.18 secs equals 14lbs but the wfa scale I use puts a 2-y-o 23lbs behind an older horse at this time of year which is how I get Sir Percy’s figure 9lbs higher. What figures do you use? I’m genuinely interested.
October 17, 2005 at 21:15 #95413bloody hell! :o
October 17, 2005 at 22:10 #95414Thanks for that, EC.
October 17, 2005 at 22:27 #95415Quote: from EC on 10:49 pm on Oct. 17, 2005[br]. A 2yo race in October is on average 0.9 seconds slower per mile than the same class mature race.
Do you work on a monthy basis ? ie October 0.9 secs, Sept 0.7 secs difference or whatever
If you don’t want to answer EC, i’ll understand,
October 17, 2005 at 22:38 #95416cheers EC
Interesting stuff, as usual
October 18, 2005 at 09:07 #95417I’m not gonna even BEGIN to say i understand!!!
October 19, 2005 at 13:05 #95420Quote from Trackside – "while he will have missed his first (and probably make-or-break) year as a stallion."
No he won’t Trackside – If he races next year then 2007 will be his ‘first (and probably make or break) year as a stallion’. He won’t miss it at all.
October 20, 2005 at 09:51 #95422I would trackside. I remember reading that Storm Cat was one of the more temperamental horses in traing in his day. I think it was in the book Horsetrader about Sangster, Magnier, and Vincent O’Brien. Apparently, Storm Cat lost a couple of races by taking a disliking to another horse in a race and trying to bite him in the last couple of furlongs.
October 20, 2005 at 12:58 #95423Why wouldn’t you breed from him Trackside? Is it on grounds of temperament or ability or pedigree or a combination of factors?
