Was told this was voted the best joke in Ireland!

John O’Reilly hoisted his beer and said, ‘Here’s to spending the rest of me life!, between the legs of me wife!’
That won him the top prize at the pub for the best toast of the night!
He went home and told his wife, Mary, ‘I won the prize for the Best toast of the night.’
She said, ‘Aye, did ye now. And what was your toast?’
John said, ‘Here’s to spending the rest of me life, sitting in church beside me wife.’
‘Oh, that is very nice indeed, John!’ Mary said.
The next day, Mary ran into one of John’s drinking buddies on the street corner.
The man chuckled leeringly and said, ‘John won the prize the other night at the pub with a toast about you, Mary.’
She said, ‘Aye, he told me, and I was a bit surprised myself. You know, he’s only been there twice in the last four years. Once he fell asleep, and the other time I had to pull him by the ears to make him come.’

I think the problem is that most people mistake non Political Correctness with racism, phobia etc. Being non PC does not mean that you are being racist. Indeed being non-PC can in fact be anti-racist e.g. a coloured person using the word nigger.
Racist comments are usually deliberately malicious. Unconscious non-PC comments or comments innocently made that cause offence are not racist. More often they are just ill thought out, ignorant aimed to impress or amuse.
This is another example of the press making/deciding the news rather than just reporting it.
I watched Blazing Saddles on Channel 5 last night.
PMSL then I realise that the film was clearly racist. The use of the word niger throughout must have been offensive to someone
. Must write to C5 complain about this. Perhaps the News of the World will run a story on how racist C5 is?I have also met loads of people "racist" in my time in the Army. I have met many many more outside in my civie life.
Went to see Genesis at Old Trafford last year. Last saw them at Knebworth in 1975 or 76 I think. They were fantastic but I have never seen so many fat balding people in old demin far to tight for them now. And that was just the women

Why is the term "Paki" any different from Scot or Scoti, Welshi, Frenchi, Froggi, Chinki, yankee etc

If there is clearly no malice intended then why is it racist?
Corm,
I do not think there is any evidence that the Armed forces are institutionally racist any more so than any other part of our society. The members of the armed forces are drawn from our community and as such will suffer from the same problems that we all have. You just need to go to any pub or building site and you will find all sorts or racism and bigotism much worse than in the Army. My Dad and most of his generation were all racist but never acknowledged it.
These Harry statements clearly not racist when you take them in context. Just like Dave jays last post when he said "Chinkie" if not meant as an offensive remark. Its just the typical crap journalism from a crap newspaper.
I saw this crap. Tanya said her one wish for 2009 and asked the big plonker to give his one wish. The buffoon then went of on a tirade giving three things in his usual annoying way. The other presenters all just reacted to him bellowing on rather than disagreeing with the points he was trying to make.
I think that is the point about Big Mac. He irritates so many people in the way he acts that they just switch off from listening to him.
I have not watched the ML for ages but I must say that the whole show was pretty dire and tired looking. Will need to be very bored to watch again.
Cracking race which I would love to see Kauto Star winning. Betting wise its looking for a decent price placed horse that just might take advantage of any Kauto errors. Have backed Albertas Run e/w at 33s though much of that logic might be from far too much Talisker last night.

Fancy Nichols & Walsh to take the first four races today!
Good luck all & lets hope they all come back safe!
Missed the Grassy quiz tonight but as a "Weedgie" I know the expression Fud has quite a different meaning in the bowels of Glasgow. Means similar as it is used, but we are talking about female genitalia.

Shoatay is similar but also a Kids game. We say Shoatay-in but in terms of a football, any number of players one set of goals.
Pochle similar. There is a Glasgow term Pockle i.e. steal/cheat.
But then I only got 8 out of 10 in the original quiz so no expert am I

Grassy,
I never made any attempt to defend the action taken against Green. My point is that this is being spun as some kind of Government inspired attack on the opposition.
Again I have no problem with any opposition party exposing corrupt practice as long as they stay within the confines of the law. Whilst the systematic leaking of civil service documents may not in this case be terrorism it could be illegal and indeed could be considered treasonable. It appears there was an internal civil service inquiry here that identified wrong doing and initiated the complaint to the police who investigated. They have these powers unders this Act of law and choose to use them to investigate Green. Again I am not defending their use of these legal powers. There was not the same uproar over the cash for honours raids.
I do not know the facts any more than what I read in the press. Would it be acceptable if Green has been paying this civil servant to be a long term mole in the civil service to pass him information to use against the government for politcal advantage?
I just do not understand Clive’s points. It’s the principle of civil service security here not some Directorial malpractice to shareholders. Why would the Government be less concerned about security than any commercial company?
Dave,
If you read further than the first line you will see my points shared for all.
Parliamentary privilege is not criminal immunity. The police have been into MPs offices before. The spin is the suggestion is that this is/was this government trying to attack some MP on some crusade to keep the people informed rather than a senior civil servant and the police upsetting MPs perceptions of their parliamentary privilege.
Most likely this was an MP using a bias civil servant to gain information to selectively use for his own political gains. Possibly a tad illegally i.e. coersion, monies involved. I am prepared to wait and see. If Green has not broke the law then he has nothing to worry about.
Try releasing some of your company’s secret information to your competitors and see how long you are in a job for.
Here is one for your book!
THE MIRACLE OF TOILET PAPER…..
Fresh from my shower, I stand in front of the mirror complaining to my husband that my breasts are too small.
Instead of characteristically telling me it’s not so, he uncharacteristically comes up with a suggestion.
‘If you want your breasts to grow, then every day take a piece of toilet paper and rub it between them for a few seconds’.
Willing to try anything, I fetch a piece of toilet paper and stand in front of the mirror, rubbing it between my breasts.
‘How long will this take?’ I asked.
‘They will grow larger over a period of years,’ my husband replies.
I stopped. ‘Do you really think rubbing a piece of toilet paper between my breasts every day will make my breasts larger over the years?’
Without missing a beat he says, ‘Worked for your arse, didn’t it?’
He’s still alive and, with a great deal of therapy, he may even walk again, although he will probably continue to take his meals through a straw.
I am confused. Not for the first time. I read this story and fail to see the spin you are all putting on this.
Any MP has some protection for what they say in parliament but has to abide by the laws of the land like any subject. They are not immune from any police investigation.
It appears that a civil servant has been systematically leaking stories to Green over a long period and has been internally investigated. It also appears that this civil servant has a long history with Green including previously having applied for a job working for him. Another senior civil servant reported this matter to the police as part of this inquirey and they have investigated. Smith says she knew of the police investigation on the Civil servant but nothing on the MP and refuses to apologise.
Whether the civil servant was right or wrong is not the issue. Governments need to be able to trust their permanent civil servant confidentiality and not let their political leaning get the better of them leaking what they se fit.
All this could be smoke and mirrors to deflect from Green’s manipulation of his mole. I hear the police investigation is ongoing so let’s wait for the evidence to see if any laws have been broken. I do not know what evidence the police had to take such action. They did similar with the cash for honours affair.
Stop sitting on the fence and just say what you mean Grassy
Have to agree with Yorkshire about Vince Cable who should be leading the Liberals. Best of the current bunch IMO.
Its a straight SNP/Labour battle in Scotland. If Labour win in Glenrothes it will be more due to the global credit crunch than Brown’s popularity. Independance is not looking as attractive as many originally thought for a small economy in a global market. However Salmond is very adept at wrong footing Labour and with a few weeks to go the SNP could still win.
Dave, I am sorry but all of your last post is nonsence to me and flawed logic. If I had a daughter I would not be making any of her future health decisions on what Tony did. Rather I would be looking at the facts. The facts are that there is no Autism link with the MMR or this vaccine etc. There is no evidence that the vaccine is dangerous.
Just on "someone else’s say so" does not make sence. It was not Politicians that developed, trailed and tested the vaccine.
This thread is about you letting your lack of trust in politicians, probably Tony Blair in particular, cloud your objectivity.
WTF! Your having a laugh now Dave. Maybe you should re read your first three posts.
You bring up the MMR issue in the first post as a reason for not giving your daughter the cervical cancer vaccine.
“My daughter is 14 and see isn’t getting it. I don’t know anything about this and unless someone can convince me that it’s completely safe, then she isn’t having it. I feel quite strongly about this since the MMR thing and Leo Blair not having it while his Daddy was telling everyone else it was safe.”
I have simply tried to give you advice that you asked for.
