Try releasing some of your company’s secret information to your competitors and see how long you are in a job for.

There wouldnt be a single serving member of the cabinet left if that was carried through. Including the boss….

The other difference is that this "company" is UK PLC, is one that in which we are all shareholders

A board of directors can be prosecuted for witholding valuable information from its shareholders

I think that is the more pertinent point

    Grassy,

I never made any attempt to defend the action taken against Green. My point is that this is being spun as some kind of Government inspired attack on the opposition.

Again I have no problem with any opposition party exposing corrupt practice as long as they stay within the confines of the law. Whilst the systematic leaking of civil service documents may not in this case be terrorism it could be illegal and indeed could be considered treasonable. It appears there was an internal civil service inquiry here that identified wrong doing and initiated the complaint to the police who investigated. They have these powers unders this Act of law and choose to use them to investigate Green. Again I am not defending their use of these legal powers. There was not the same uproar over the cash for honours raids.

I do not know the facts any more than what I read in the press. Would it be acceptable if Green has been paying this civil servant to be a long term mole in the civil service to pass him information to use against the government for politcal advantage?

I just do not understand Clive’s points. It’s the principle of civil service security here not some Directorial malpractice to shareholders. Why would the Government be less concerned about security than any commercial company?

What he actually leaked were documents that related to government incompetence and attempts to deceive not matters of national security or things related to terrorist activity. Moles that work in whitehall and pass on confidential information for public consumption, usually act out of a sense of duty and serve the public better than the politicians who are paid to do so.

When a system is rotten and the laws are unfair, when do you decide to break the law and do the right thing?
