Since Drone enjoyed the Concorde doc I thought I’d start a thread on some documentaries I’ve enjoyed , firstly as the Falklands are back in the news this doc on Operation Black Buck is worth a watch , the book is excellent to , the RAF pulled a rabbit out of a hat with this raid with a jet weeks off being pensioned of , the planning ( esp the refuelling )had to be perfect

I’ve watched many awful films but I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed by a documentary. Especially the Burns brothers ones. Maybe a film/documentary but I’ve just watched something about bees on BBC iplayer and I’m now going to watch another film/documentary he filmed called The Birds which features The Wash because I’m just up the road from Budle Bay which is a mini version and, even though I’ve only watched a few minutes of it I’ve already learned things about wading birds that I didn’t know. The guy who made it used to work with David Attenborough but said when he got older the work dried up so he just started filming his own garden ( hence the bee one). I’m now going to have to make my garden even more bee friendly than it already is. One of the most interesting talks I’ve been to was with a sound recordist who also worked with Attenborough.

Are a way of controlling the public by pretending to be authoritative.

    Discuss.

Is Attenborough the greatest ever documentarian , very possibly , Glad someone can only be controlled it they let themselves be controlled , I read a right wing paper every Sunday …I’m not right wing , man/woman documenting history is vital

I could start a very long digression here, HDLG, but I won’t.

20 Days in Mariupol is one that sticks out for me. It was filmed in the city over the first few weeks of the war in Ukraine.

It’s a bloody hard watch and I will never be able to bring myself to see it again but its graphic nature is what makes it so powerful.

Storyville is excellent. Two of my favourite episodes were “Mr Nobody Against Putin” and “Sanatorium” – both are well worth a watch.

I tend to watch UFO documentaries about abductions, ancient aliens and government cover-ups.

11 Minutes: Americas deadliest mass shooting. BBC iplayer. A four part series that I didn’t want to watch but had to continue with it, especially as I don’t have any recollection of it happening ( 2017). Why things like this don’t make them change their gun laws is beyond me. The most recent Storyville ones I watched are Welded Together and The Contestant. If the latter was a drama and not from real life it would be unbelievable. And how some people are so forgiving is beyond my comprehension as an arch grudge bearer.

BBC 4 are currently reshowing Simon Schama’s ‘History of Great Britain’ which I’m enjoying watching again.

PBS America has numerous worthwhile historical documentaries; a recent one entitled ‘Apocalypse:Stalin’ was particularly good.

Just watched Ron Howard’s 13 lives. About the boys from Thailand trapped in the cave and how they were rescued. Thoroughly worth watching currently on iplayer.

You've got to accentuate the positive.
    Eliminate the negative.
    Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.
