I thought Jenny Pitman mentioned on 5-Live she had buried one of her horses at Cheltenham and advised Hen that this was the right thing to do. While I cannot remember the name of the horse at this time I am sure she said it was up at the top of the hill looking back onto the stands.
Maybe it was Corbiere or Garrison Savannah at Aintree?
Really shocked to hear this fantastic horse has died. Heard the Hen interview on 5Live. Just so sad.

Ricky, next year I probably will.
Value is subjective. While it may not appeal to you you will find that it will be packed as usual despite the price increases. Its Market forces.
Planning to go to Cheltenham festival for the first time next year. I have no idea of the prices. Think I will give the Fosters Enclosure a miss now though.
Ricky you fox!
I think you would be surprised about the size of the corporate and hospitality buck, the number of people it brings to racing and the spin offs. These are the people that are buying more than a dodgy burger and a pint who provide a lucrative profit to the course. Very significant in relative terms.
For example for the last Box & Marquee we had we purchased 129 Club badges. These were people who would not have been there otherwise. Add to that what we paid for catering, drinks and what they spent on course betting. The rest of the boxes on course and the restaurants were all full. Just do the sums.
Thing is Ricky that the comparison with football is real. this is exactly what the racecourses are competing with for entertainment.
Horse racing is in the entertainment game.
As for people staying away just look at the corporate hospitality boxes and tables in your racecourse restaurants. These people are paying through the nose for a days entertainment and are not those only interested in betting. Racecourses are evolving to attract more than those wanting a punt at the tatts. If they had to survive only on punters without subsidy then they would soon be in the grubber.
You may see it as "over charging" but many think it reasonable value.
Zorro, Lets agree to disagree on this one. If it were that simple then why bother going to the racecourse at all? Just go to the bookies and save yourself a few quid. I still think that racecourse prices are reasonable value compared to other live sports.
I tend to think that too many people in this sport just don’t want to contribute to the game. They want it all free and complain about the cost of RUK etc. The realities are that the racecourses are there to make money and if that is not coming from subsidy then they have to do so at the entrance gate. Successfull courses are doing so by selling the whole experience to the public which is more than just a punt at the Tatts.
Not sure I agree Zorro. You assume that everyone going racing is betting on course or going racing mainly to bet Tatts.
The Racecourses are businesses and have to make money. Unless they are going to get that money from subsidy or in other ways then it comes from admission fees. Relative to other spectator sports i.e. Football I think we still have value.
My comments relate mainly to the smaller courses but I do accept that the big meeting are pricey. Then again it is not as if you are doing this every day or week.
Well as it turns out I have already arranged a DEBRA event at Hamilton on the evening of Saturday 9th July. It was arranged well before Peter’s passing. This is the Sunday Mail Families night and we are negotiating with the Sunday Mail to allow DEBRA to share a race with them on the night. All of the races are already taken on that night so we are at their mercy for the race but are quite hopeful. There will be lots of entertainment for the families & kids get in free. So even if we do not get a race we will have a good night.
I have booked a Private box and a Marquee that will take 100 persons with a cash bar, tables & chairs and tote betting facility on the Club lawn next to the Winning post. The box is for our corporate guests and big supporters of the Charity and probably not of interest anyone on this forum.
You are all welcome to join me on the night in the Marquee and I am sure we could sink a few singing gingers in Peter’s memory.
If you are interested send me a PM. Probably looking at around £25 a badge for the Marquee or more if you want to give it. All monies will go to DEBRA.
Thanks Seagull!
Just an idea but I want to do something.
I support and donate each year to DebRA the Charity that supports and raises money for sufferers of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) and raises money for research into a cure for EB. My best friend’s kid has EB and it is horrible. visit http://www.debra.org.uk/ for information on the charity
In Phunter’s memory and to support his kids I am prepared to donate a ton to DebRA.
Does anyone else want to join me?
If so can we do this through the Forum somehow i.e. give the money to the Forum to be donated to DebRA Charity from the Forum in Phunters memory?
Gutted!
He was such a character on this forum and will be missed. Enjoyed the banter with him over the footy.
My thoughts are with his family.
Seagull : I know it is a side matter but do the kids have eb?

The debate has moved on guys! time to move with it.
The rights & wrongs of Fox hunting has been decided upon whether you like it or not. What we are now talking about is the rights & wrongs of breaking the law.
As for the Lords being a democratic chamber well that takes the biscuit. This was an open vote in the commons (the democratic chamber ) with a resounding support from all parties. I think it was the 10th time they voted for a ban over the years which truely reflects majority public opinion over the years. Hard to see any case for anything but hard cheese and hard to see how Blair can be the scapegoat for this and absolutely everything else.
Nobody has any problem in people dressing up in their hunting gear and riding about the countryside with their dogs if they want to and all of the social life that surrounds the activity. The law now states it is illegal to do so for the purpose of hunting fox which is perceived as cruel.
Can’t see what all the fuss is about. Time to put up or shut up.
I reckon in 10 years time there will still be everything associated with Hunting in place in the UK bar the bloodsport and we will be wondering at all of the fuss.
I think the point is that the opinions on the rights & wrong of hunting are now only a side issue. Racing, fishing etc will survive because they are big bucks industries.
The main point is that hunting with dogs is soon to be against the law. You cannot just choose what laws you like and break the ones you don’t like. This is a democracy and the majority think hunting with dogs cruel enough to ban. End of story. If you want to change the law you do so within the law.
Some people disagree with the Poll tax but if they do not pay they suffer the consequence. Others think a 70mph speed limit on motorways is too slow but if they exceed it they take the consequence. So be it.
I have a great sympathy with Grimes’s views. Perhaps the Country folk are out of touch with the real issues that the majority of British folk live with everyday. If they put as much effort into raising a fuss over some real social issues as they do about perpectuating a sport that the majority of the Country perceive as cruel then they may have some credibility.
British Soldiers dying in Iraq and all this mob can do is throw teddy bears over such a trivial issue and refuse their land for the Army to train on.
