It’s highly likely there will be small changes regarding who can run in the next few years .
The shame is that we could just as easily be commenting on how well Celebre d’Allen ran as a 13 year old this week.
I’m not convinced it was a case of an old horse getting tired as he was still tanking along 3 out but that something physical has happened though you don’t exactly have to be Sherlock to have that view.
I’m personally not a fan of 7 year olds running either or horses with less than 10 chases under their belts ..in years gone by most runners had started 6 times that season ,some have only had 6 on their lives.
It’s usually ,with a few exceptions, battle hardened chasers who are used to running in big fields in top handicaps that do best not horses who have got a high rating by mopping up 4/5 runner novice chases then staggering round in a 3 runner 3m chase to qualify.
Not sure what the answer is but I’m sure their will be yet more appeasement to keep the antis happy.
On a final not the idea that the race should be run end of April as has been mooted by Skelton et al is ridiculous if anything it should be moved backwards a week to try and ensure that we don’t get the conditions we got on Saturday,it’s up to trainers and owners to pick whether they want to go to Cheltenham or Aintree .That’s a shame as he was running his heart out ,there were a few folk questioning that he should run this week being 13yo but they nearly always get round safely as they have the experience and know the script.
Vic’s Canvass a few years ago nearly pulled off the big one .Celebre D,Allen was one of my handful of speculative bets and was getting excited with a few fences to go .
The way he stopped suggested it was something physical not just stamina as I think has been alluded to in another post.
It was a shame as he jumped beautifully.
He should have been stopped going into the last but maybe Mikey Nolan thought it was safer to pop him over then pull him up.
Fingers crossed for a positive outcome for the old fella. It’s a shame Famous Bridge didn’t win last week before the weights it might have given him a squeak of getting in .
Think the idea of a later weights launch maybe two weeks later would encompass more races to help bump ratings up .Thought he ran a good race today , he’s still only 9 and looks to me as though he could do with a real trip ,maybe a Midlands National ?
He might be another Copperhead and be reborn .
There’s been a few in the distant past in Aintree Foxhunters .Mount Top in 1980 and Private Script in 81 in particular who has a string of R’s in his form that season .
I believe Neil King was effectively told to not run Cardinal Red or else in the 98 Foxhunters. He would have been interesting with his talent.Liked the look of Chantry House today and he will going on my shortlist .
Fits the bill for me just short of top class and can see him grinding it out if the going is Soft come April .A Galileo also ran in the 89 Aintree Foxhunters
It was only caught it out of the corner of my eye was sickening.
Going well too, poor baby only 4Johnson started all this in his roll of jockeys representative always sticking his nose in whenever there was a blink of sunlight.
Ian Watkinson has a better view of this on the NH forums.
I think courses should be made to refund if more than two races have omitted fences , or made to abandon a race with three or more fences/ hurdles omitted .
Be interesting to see how the accountants oh sorry race organises behaved then.I feel that Elliot is extra determined to make a point this year after the BHA had the temerity to suggest a limit on trainers runners in handicaps.
He’s been helped by the authorities this year by the reduction of runners and the handicapper over rating many of the Irish horses too. There definitely needs to be some tweaking on the entry qualifications,I’m not entirely sure 7 year olds have any business running in the race despite Noble yeats win.
I’d open it up for horses that have have run in a 2 mile 6 race or further and entries must be in their second season chasing .
They must have run in 8 or more chases.
Even now the majority of horses that finish in the first 6 are usually battle hardened having run in chases with decent size fields so are used to the hussle and bustle .
The last qualifications would be to sack the majority of the board who’s main concern is how much revenue they can bring in.
Their reasons for stopping reserved said it all if you read between the lines ,their goal is a squeaky clean race so they can sindicate it out to even more countries every year .
The race should be owned and run in isolation by those that understand the spirit of the race.
The fences are fine I’m my opinion but the race could do without speccy accountants more concerned about their bonus to keep their duck lipped partners In cologen. You would think that they would let the horse run and any proceeds on its way to Dance lobbed into the pot for whatever activity he is accused of.
The only thing I can think of is they have no authority to impound such winnings.
Seems harsh though on Bryan Drew IF he has no connection to the issue .I’m attracted to Francky de berlais he runs better in the spring and summer as do quite a few of Bowens .
Also Born by the sea I know you shouldn’t go by intuition but I’ve long thought he had a big run in him .
It’s hard to dismiss Coko Beach too, such a grand sure footed horse who likes to be up there .
I’ll also be taking a look at Rapper and Eva’s Oscar nearer the time.Oskard qualified to run in the 1979 Grand National via a walkover ,how mad is that !?
Hoping Snow Falcon turns up has run in just about every race there is and convinced there is a big one in him still.
There were two Plum Puddings running a couple of years ago .
Remember two fillies named Susanna running in the same race in the early 80s- AuthorPosts
