It’s a shame Famous Bridge didn’t win last week before the weights it might have given him a squeak of getting in .
Think the idea of a later weights launch maybe two weeks later would encompass more races to help bump ratings up .February 16, 2025 at 11:14 #1720742You have a point, HD.
In the past the staying handicaps have been deliberately placed in the calendar because trainers haven’t wanted their horses to go up in the ratings until after the Grand National weights have come out.I do think now the Grand National has many more higher calibre horses running… There is surely a case to move one or two “Grand National Trials” to BEFORE the weights are announced. While also limiting the top weight to only as much as what would be NOWADAYS the average BOTTOM weight of the Grand National. So as to encourage trainers wanting their horses to go up in the ratings – to get a run in the big one.
And / or: What about bringing in a “Red Rum Chase”, over the Becher course of the National fences in late January or early Spring – with the above conditions? With a “win and you’re in” incentive.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 16, 2025 at 12:17 #1720746I doubt Aintree would want to have a fixture in the first three months of the year. The ground can get very soft in this part of the world and they want to keep the ground fresh for April.
There is the Boxing Day fixture but that is currently without a race over the National fences. I am not sure the residents would like having the Melling Road closed off over Christmas.
February 16, 2025 at 12:56 #1720750Let’s face it unless there’s a freak accurance/horrific ground then with the days of soft fences the class horses are going to prevail , you have a trial yesterday were most of the horses aren t rate high enough to even run in the GN , let’s be honest yesterday’s race was a Scottish National Trial , it’s all about hiding horses now in graded races until April , 100-1/66-1 winners just aren t going to happen now

February 23, 2025 at 11:21 #1721215My early bet on this was STUMPTOWN but after analysing yesterday’s BobbyJo decided to add NICK ROCKETT and INTENSE RAFFLES
Undecided about PERCEVAL LEGALLOIS whose attitude to racing is a real plus for me.
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.

February 25, 2025 at 03:16 #1721348I liked the look of intense raffles before the bobbyjo now I really fancy it.

March 11, 2025 at 00:28 #1722492Really wanted NRNB before I bet him, as I think he’s more likely to head to Fairyhouse, but bet Duffle Coat, before he runs at Cheltenham.
Few quid up to 180’s, as well as the EW
Duffle Coat 100’s EW6Pls/180’s
March 13, 2025 at 02:01 #1723275Vanilier was running on well in the cross country. Lost 10 lengths going the wrong way early on too which didn’t help. Might add him to intense raffles.
March 14, 2025 at 10:59 #1723744Is the National a week earlier than normal this year? Probably just the way the dates have fallen but 3 weeks tomorrow, doesn’t feel ideal if Inothewayurthinkin gets taken into a real battle with Galopin.
March 14, 2025 at 16:13 #1723861Inothewayurthinkin will be incredible short.
March 14, 2025 at 16:41 #1723894Not guaranteed to come here after a tough race today, but got to have a go each way on Gentlemansgame while the big price remains.
March 15, 2025 at 15:16 #1724140Mr Vango currently at 66/1 for the race (if he runs).
One to keep an eye on…March 15, 2025 at 18:34 #1724166No surprise to see Inothewayurthinkin at 3/1 or shorter, but a) only one seven-year-old has won since 1940 and b) can he recover from the exertions of a Gold Cup in just three weeks and a day?
I won’t be surprised if they wait a year or two, even though he’ll then have a lot more weight to carry.
Had my first bet now there’s some NRNB around: Kandoo Kid e.w. at 20/1.
