I could be wrong but I have a feeling Celebre D’Allens had these issues in the past. He loves those fences though, I remember backing him for a Topham gone by and he ran really well. Was never likely to last home today and fingers crossed both horses are ok
April 5, 2025 at 17:26 #1726306Thanks everyone. Not a bad start, but all downhill from here…
April 5, 2025 at 17:41 #1726309“Yes, CAS. Royale Pagaille, and also Hitman and Bravemansgame deserved better than their career stats suggest.”
I didn’t disagree with the rather obscure panel ruling out Mr Incredible. But to my mind they should have been able to rule out Hitman (a certain non stayer) and Royale Pagaille. OK, that might have been more difficult given the panel could not know for sure what the ground would be like on the day but maybe they could have recommended that the horse should not be allowed to run if it was no worse than soft.
Bravemansgame did at least run well for a long way. I think it was reasonable for connections to give it a go.
April 5, 2025 at 17:41 #1726311I’m surprised so few on here selected the winner (and that includes myself). Winner of The Bobbyjo is a decent form indicator these days.
And how did he go off at 33/1? How was he not in the 12s/14s range?
Bizarre – any thoughts, guys?
April 5, 2025 at 17:41 #1726312More positive news emerging about Broadway Boy thankfully. On the wider point, the race is much much safer. I counted about 5 fallers this year, after 4 last year. A percentage rate of about 15, compared to between 35-50% in the 80s and 90s . Most falls these days are actually unseats . If they make the fences stiffer again, there’ll be more falls and more fatalities- simple as. As far as course and fence conditions goes, it’s about as safe as they can make it.
The race is now a long distance Gold Cup , but it will lose interest for those who follow the sport if say it is won by Willie (genius that he is ) three years out of every five. They should look at win and you’re in and perhaps some restriction on owner/trainer entries to make it more open and competitive. The performances of Celebre D’allen and Horantzau D’Airy show why more yards should be given a chance to have a runner.April 5, 2025 at 17:42 #1726313RacingTV saying that both horses walked onto the ambulance. That’s cautiously hopeful for Broadway Boy considering.
His rider Tom Bellamy also taken to hospital though. I think we missed that in the live coverage.
Hope both horses and Tom are ok.
April 5, 2025 at 17:43 #1726314“Bizarre – any thoughts, guys?”
Patrick Mullins being on his back. Gaelic Warrior this week aside, he is not popular with punters.
April 5, 2025 at 17:49 #1726319That’s positive news about Broadway Boy. I honestly thought he wasn’t going to get up after fall.
April 5, 2025 at 17:50 #1726320Probably some of his form last year suggested he wasnt good enough too from the Sandown race and the Irish National but hes obviously much improved this year.
April 5, 2025 at 17:51 #1726321Really CAS?
A drift from 16s or so 48 hours ago to 33s at the off?
The big punters would know he was going to be the rider, well before the drift. And ‘other’ punters wouldnt take much notice of the jockey name, surely.Seems like you have a bit of an issue with him
April 5, 2025 at 18:00 #1726326No Wilts, a few of the horses he rode at Cheltenham drifted like barges in the betting. Salvator Mundi almost doubled in price when he was jocked up and about three posters here who had backed the horse antepost expressed dissatisfaction at him being on board.
April 5, 2025 at 18:11 #1726328Wilts, I had him as a small saver at 22/1 and while I always rate the Bobbyjo as a decent GN trial, I was put off by the fact that Intense Raffles was 15 lbs. better off and by that “cool” interview Thomas Gibney gave to the Racing Post about him feeling no pressure and the horse being better than ever.
April 5, 2025 at 18:15 #1726329We didn’t mention the time: 9 mins 6 secs is just 2 secs outside RP standard. It was a staying race ran at a quite decent pace.
April 5, 2025 at 18:30 #1726335Well done to the winners, and especially teetonmill98 on a fantastic debut
Really hoping for good outcomes for Broadway Boy and Celebre D’Allen.
Sadly I think the welfare angle is now the sole point of interest for a significant part of the media, and there will have been a number of gleeful observers of Broadway Boy’s fall pleased that they now had a story to run with.
April 5, 2025 at 18:55 #1726341Fingers crossed both horses have no lasting damage.
RUK said Tom Bellamy has possibly broken wrist.April 5, 2025 at 18:58 #1726343Nice one teetonmill98
The more I know the less I understand.

I had or have no financial interest in the winner, but i cant fathom how there was such a dramatic drift. He’d been a general 12-16/1 chance for weeks, then suddenly drifts on the day.
If i remember rightly one poster commented on here the other eve how he’d drifted that eve; when i looked on oddschecker that eve there was just one bookie showing 33s (i think), the rest were still showing 12s, 14s, 16s.
I’ll see if i can find the post. - AuthorPosts
