Interesting about Twig, landafar. I made the comment in the thread for the staying hurdle race at Ascot this weekend what they were doing with him smacked of keeping his mark down.

Not sure he’s got the raw ability to be in the first 4 so little value backing him ante post really. But when the places are being offered down to 6/7 he’s worth a bet.

Minella Cocooner ran better than I thought he would in the John Durkan at the weekend. Running him over a vastly inadequate trip seems to signify connections are not going to risk him going up in the handicap before the weights come out. :good:

Intense Raffles to be campaigned over hurdles although his main target will be the Grand National. Probably trying to protect handicap mark

I’m happy to have been mainly swerving the Sandy Thomson yard for the last twelve months, but Mr Incredible looks like one of his old school projects, and I think he should get some joy from him. Hopefully Thomson can get in his head, but you can never rule out the old antics re-appearing.

I don’t actually think The Rowland Meyrick will be his day, and he’ll win later in year, but I’ve hit him on my radar for Aintree, and no doubt at all for me that The National is the plan.

Very tempted to bet him at 66’s, but holding off for now, given I don’t think Wetherby will be his day

Edit – Bullet Dodged with Mr Incredible. Added Nick Rockett briefly at 40’s before deciding to keep things tidy, and cashed out. One for later Nick

We’re both on Minella Coccooner, VTC but…

Can I ask – apart from Sandy Thomson – what do you see in Mr Incredible?
imo: May well be well handicapped come April – on his Uttoxeter form… But is sandy Thomson really going to get as much out of a horse as Willie Mullins? The horse best is on soft / heavy ground – less of a chance of that ground in early April.. Wants an extreme test these days. Doesn’t jump well and often downs tools / poor temperament – finds a way to lose.

If liking him on the day I think you might even get 1000 on the machine.

Oh yeah, no arguments GT. Wouldn’t touch him now. Whole angle on him was Sandy improving him mentally, but no sign of that on Boxing Day, and no real sign either of the yard doing what they did so well for years.

Made hay with the yard for years, but nothing to justify following him for now, and too many been running badly for some time.

Couldn’t consider him, unless on the machine as you say.

I’m as big a Sandy fan as Bobby , with regards to can be get as much out a horse as Mullins , yes and no , Mullins is going the best in the business but he has a regimented training pattern , some horse will be soured by it , Sandy doesn’t , his horses go on gallop and also over the nearby bills , they also spend time on the beach , he even takes them hunting , it’s how he rekindles them , look at Yorkhill , he brought a horse back that at the end with Mullins didn’t want to know about racing , same with Dingo Dollar , he had pulled up numerous times when finishing with King , Mr Incredible looks like a big project however if one man can do it …. , I still don’t think the stable is over the bug it had last season however fingers crossed he has some winners constantly soon , I’ve said it before it I ever had a leg in a horse it would be with Sandy , they love there horses

Liked the look of Chantry House today and he will going on my shortlist .
Fits the bill for me just short of top class and can see him grinding it out if the going is Soft come April .

Beauport, wow that’s a bit left field for you, Mike.
Well, right-field… as that’s where he may end up.
Has the same colours of a Grand National winner that I wanted to back but was too young and couldn’t get my money on. :-( Corbiere.
Not sure they’d be targeting the Grand National if it wasn’t for that link though. I do wonder whether a massive part of this season’s improvement has been due to racing right-handed… And did seem to get an easy lead on both occasions at Ascot.
At Uttoxetter although didn’t go to the front, he gave the outside to no-one. Probably wanting a clear view of his fences and sometimes racing 5 wide until a circuit was gone. From there disputing the lead but at times jumping violently right. Almost colliding with the outside rail going out onto the second circuit. Was said to have finished the race with one iron, but why? In the Scottish National again lined up on the wide outside but this time not getting away well. Held up and didn’t seem to want to know with a lot of horses around him. Can he make all at Aintree? A very prominent position will imo be needed and a horse wanting to go right handed around Bechers, Foinavon and the Canal Turn isn’t really ideal…

If he were mine I’d aim for Sandown.

“Well, right-field… as that’s where he may end up.”

Didn’t see violently right jumps at Ascot in November so will see how it goes the other way. He may just be a different horse these days. Particularly after watching his grade 1 hurdle run, i thought he’d be too slow to be competitive in that. It’s a free bet so nothing to lose.

Beauport wouldn’t jump violently right on a right-handed track with a rail to his right. But on a left-handed course he may well do so. He also got a very easy lead in both Ascot races, so we don’t know what he’d be like if taken on in the Grand National.

Gavin Cromwell has stated that Inothewayurthinkin won’t be trained for the Grand National this spring.

    Has he Mike?

That’s a bugger! He travelled lovely in his Xmas race and I was immediately drawn to him for this. Did he mention what the plan was?

    Thanks for that Mike. :good:

I didn’t know the way Gavin was thinking.
    Laid it.
At least I got back a third of my bet on INTWYT.

Strangely TC, having been taken out of the Cheltenham Gold Cup this week, the plan is to take on Galopin again in the Irish Gold Cup. He is apparently “not ready” for the Grand National this year. What the ____ they’ll do with him if beating GDC or even running well there? Although it did seem to me he was given a considerate ride in the Savills. Would’ve done better kept closer to the pace. Ridden with an eye on the future. ;-) Maybe he will again in the Irish Gold Cup? Somehow think they might have a different handicap plan in the pipeline. Ultima? Irish Grand National? Scottish National?
