Restricting it to courses I’ve been to…

My top 5

Cheltenham – Quality course – just need to rebuild the main stand now ;)
Ludlow – Quirky, brilliant course
Sandown – Great viewing
Market Rasen – Superb value in silver ring
Navan – My fave Irish track

Used to love Wincanton but some of the quirkiness I liked has been lost.. Thurles is another brilliant course for its taste of untransformed Ireland.

Not so favourite 5

Chepstow – needs investment
Newbury – poor viewing, nightmare getting in and out
Newmarket July – poor viewing
Chester – not my bag at all
Wolverhampton – nearest course but not interested.

Ratings are supposed to be compiled objectively and I can’t honestly see how on the balance of form Many Clouds has come out above Sizing John. It does reek of sentimentality.

Arguably, however the staying chase performance of the season was by Our Duke in the Irish National.

83.

Missed 4 including the Derby and Irish Derby courses (lol)

You can tell I’m only interested in the jumps…

I’ve had bad runs – remember the Cheltenham I never had a winner – in the County Hurdle, which was then the getting out stakes I was on one of Nicky Richards’ at 80-1 that was right there at the last but fell away to be placed behind Pedrobob.

All I can say is that as long as you are confident your approach is sound it will turn around. I’m not a big punter but have a big turnover and over the 6 years since I opened it my Bet365 account is up.

Yeah.. Would like a bit more candidness from him but no question of his brilliance.

Menorah – what a fabulous horse. Done me many favours. Hope he has a long retirement with Richard Johnson..

Corker of a race – if only Coneygree had hit either of the last two on a stride – especially the 2nd last – I think he’d have been in there.

Main bet was Henri PM – didn’t jump nearly well enough, second bet was Arpege D’Alene – hopefully he’s OK?

I threw 2 quid ew at Cogry at 40s for third bet because it was too big.

So it was a day for being chinned on the line having been on Zubayr at 18s earlier

Funny thing I watched the recording of the race blind after having been out all afternoon. As I started cheering Cogry louder and louder Mrs GD was struggling to contain her mirth having already seen the result on the net.

Wow, that hammered them. Wouldn’t look out of place in Gold Cup field next year on that sort of run. What a season for Jessie & Robbie Power.

When I bought a TV, around four years ago, I set up a series link to Channel 4 racing, I never missed a recording, either for the weekend or midweek coverage. When the racing was transferred to ITV and ITV4 I set up series links again. For so long it was fine, but recently the links haven’t worked. I missed the Grand National day in it’s entirety, the racing this Friday and today’s racing.
I presume this is because they keep changing the titles of the programmes.
I don’t have the time to constantly keep checking the TV schedules, like do not I have the time to watch much racing live.
I am extremely cross about this, especially missing the Grand National for the first time. Why cannot the set up the coverage so series links work? Surely that cannot be too difficult for them?
Otherwise I think the coverage is better than Channel 4, by quite a long margin.

Might it be that ITV do not always broadcast racing on the same channel each week?

No, that’s not the problem. They call it a different name and the recorder fails to recognise it. I had the same problem.

Used to be on a 6 year cycle:

1994 Miinnehoma
2000 Papillon
2006 Numbersixvalverde
2012 Neptune Collonges

But then I spoilt it by having Pineau de Re in 2014

So no great expectation this year, not due yet…

The Bet365 concession on basically returning the ew part of the stake has encouraged me to have quite a few ew.

So it’s 10ew Rogue Angel and Blaklion, 5ew More of That, Definitly Red and Measureofmydreams, 3ew Lord Windermere and Wounded Warrior. Plus a quid ew O’Faolains Boy in the hunt for a 100-1 winner.

As I’ve omitted Thunder & Roses of the Giggs runners, that’s the one that will win.

Can hardly think of any stallions these days who won over jumps. Yet it’s not that long ago we had the likes of Monksfield, Royal Vulcan, Alderbrook, Ra Nova, Cruise Missile, Nickname, Nomadic Way and Midnight Legend doing well over jumps before stud careers.

Now good NH sires like Presenting, Shantou or Definite Article/Vinnie Roe get no opportunity to sustain their line.

The French have so much more clue than us about this. Not completely blinded by the latest Coolmore inbred. Happy to race entires over hurdles and breed from the best.
