Or perhaps they will take the view the horse was a 25/1 shot because it is an irresolute beast, who was incapable of winning without being beaten by the whip, and which did not deserve to win on merit anyway.

There is more than one way of explaining a defeat – but then again I find that most pocket talkers whinge and blame everyone and everything else ……. except their own singular lack of judgement and greed, which is the real reason why their 25/1 shot usually turns out to be a loser.

Regrettably the new rules will become yet another arrow in the pocket talkers quiver.

This gave me a slight bit of faith!

At the end of the day, riding style have evolved over the years, back in the early days they used to ride at a length you’d more likely see being modeled by Carl Hester and Edward Gal these days, they used to have spurs, and if you wanted to beat something the whole way round, go for it!

It will cause a few troubles for the first season or few, and maybe will need tweaking, but I think will at the end of the day be for the greater good. For example seen a lot of people harping on about being allowed to whip into a fence, to be honest, if a horse is needing to be smacked into every fence, then it probably needs to go home and brush up on its jumping before coming to a racetrack again.

Instead of brat attacking, I see no harm in sitting back and seeing what happens, and if you’re so worried about it all, stop betting for a bit?

Crustypatch I think that was the most indepth post I’ve ever seen on this forum!

I don’t think racing is renowned for producing… erm…. fantasically attractive partakers, a couple of the younger jumps boys (i’m hardly elderly so it’s not cradle snatching) like Aidan Coleman and Paul Townend are orritte…. but I guess i’ll make do with my own other half haha.

Houblon Des Obeaux over the winter on mud could be vvvv hard to beat.

don’t think Joncol has shown us all he can do and should have another big one left in him.

Cue Card chasing should be good.

spotted the horse in your avatar? You have your own?

erm racing wise, i find that trying to follow the racing every day, looking at form on ground and different surfaces, which jockeys the horse goes best for and what track the horses seem to go best on. I can empathise. Been a long term national hunt lover, but got really into my flat racing this season, and far more recently (blaming the other half for this!) international, esp US racing, so every days still a school day for me in that respect. As trappy as is it, looking at the Kerry National was nice as it felt very much in my comfort zone and i knew what i was talking about!!

    1. How often do you go racing ?

2.Do you go racing less than you did five years ago or more or the same? If your habits have changed why?

    3. Do you tend to go to local courses or more likely to go to big meetings like Cheltenham, Ascot etc? Are you a member anywhere?

    4. Have you introduced people to the sport – friends and family clients etc – or is it your domain and you’d prefer to go alone or with existing fans?

    5. What has been your experience taking new people, children etc -have they enjoyed or not? Have they enjoyed different things to you at the races?

    6. What changes would you like to see introduced from the experience of a racegoer? Would they get you to go more – eg if they had ‘free food’ vouchers or free admission?

    7. Is travel and accomodation expense a factor in stopping you going racing more often?

    8. Would you like to go Racing more often?

    9. Do you think a day at the races is a suitable family day out ie with children?

    10. Do you like an alcoholic drink at the races?

    11. Are food and drink prices at the races too high; or good value?

    12. Has anyone here taken advantage of the free tickets at the "lovetheraces" site?

    13. What do you enjoy about going racing? Eg atmosphere, spectacle, better punting experience, day out, social etc

    14. What are your favourite courses? Why?
Cheltenham, by far and away. Like Newbury too, Goodwood is a stunning setting, and Lingfield is cute. Will always have a place in my heart for Newton Abbot.

If any one of the following things happen I will be delighted

Joncol picking up a race, he’s such a battler and deserves it.

Houblon Des Obeaux i’m insistent will have a brilliant season, so hopefully he’ll pick up something half decent. Too much of a mudlark to pick up a festival win, but he’s a good horse and will go well.

Time For Rupert beating Long Run in ANYTHING would make me the happiest person alive for a while!

Denman to me, bar totesport bowl run, has looked like he could do another season. Kauto I’m less sure about but i guess they know what they are doing. I guess if they’ll be entered depends on how they take to training this autumn.

I’m a stones throw from the clapham riots in a house by myself at the moment. Scared isn’t the word…

From what i’m getting lots of fire and theft and police stretched to the limit. sounds like they need to break the crowds up. Not sure why they haven’t tried firing blanks or something

I thought this too. Probably for him, like most others, the loss of rewilding completely overshadowed his horse winning. Also good form of Buick to offer condolences to Godolphin and the horse before going onto talk about the win himself.

Just got back from Ascot. Feel like i’ve been kicked in the stomach. Looked absolutely gorgeous in the parade ring, the horse that got me into the flat.
