I’d say Gladiateur that Harbinger’s 140 was also possibly a few pounds too high. But Tiemfiorm’s David Johnson makes a stout defence here https://www.sportinglife.com/racing/news/why-harbinger-earned-a-timeform-rating-of-140-and-is-one-of-stoutes-best-horses/220604
Sorry about slow site – don’t know what was going on there, presumably something server related as we haven’t changed anything on the site.

It certainly adds some interest to the week but not sure it is ‘vital’.
I haven’t really researched it so could be talking claptrap but often I think they have one fancied one on the pace (front runner or prominent) and one off the rear end when they have multiple horses with solid chances, covering all pace angles you might say.
Magnier is clearly a highly intelligent individual so he probably mixes it all up so his opponents have to keep guessing.I was there today and the hill was the quietest I have ever seen it in the 40 years I’ve been going to the Derby. Forecast probably a factor.
Tough to know what to do in order to restore the glory days, perhaps the changing world means they are gone forever.
I’m tempted by the return to a Wednesday. It would have no competition on a Wednesday afternoon whereas on a Saturday it faces multiple alternatives for attention.
Whether you would see a return to large crowds on the hill if you shifted to a Wednesday or whether it’d boost betting turnover I somehow doubt but it’d certainly get more coverage.
Still the greatest test of a thoroughbred IMO and it still has me catching my breath in the seconds before the off.
Walsh is perfectly capable of analysing flat racing, one of the better analysts in fact.
The fact Whirl was deployed as pacemaker with stable jockey on the other one tells you how they were looking to shape the race. But doesn’t mean it was ‘fixed’.
Interesting theory, there do seem to be certain meetings where front or prominent runners can’t be pegged back.
In terms of analysing, the difficulty would be finding out which meetings had been watered prior to rain, not impossible (assuming watering and rainfall detail is available) but not readily available in easy to analyse format so would be a grind.Whirl seems to be on the drift which is surprising and with Moore on Minnie Hauk possibly a significant move.
But I think Desert Flower might prove far and away the best of these – the obvious doubt is the trip but I think she might be OK.
Elwateen would be one I’d be afraid of.
” the head on shows him bumped up from the horse at the hurdle but only the jockey knows.”
That was my take.“Seems a risky strategy , put your son on horse on what looks firmish ground and bail out , unless the son took it as his last option to lose . Id need to be winning a lot of money if I had to get one my kids to bail out off a horse at 30 odd mph , land badly and get a lifetime to regret it .”
Agreed – you’d need to be desperate for the cash to take a risk like that and I doubt they are in desperate straits. Surely easier ways to get beat than risking life and limb. However, someone I put that point to did respond with ‘I doubt that was plan A’ which may be another way to look at it.I think the IHRB will find it hard to prove anything, despite the market moves.
You can absolutely guarantee it is either cost-cutting or some misguided PR initiative, possibly linked to them being awarded a ‘green’ accreditation if some sort.
You do wonder with pricing, food and drink costs and initiatives like these that they are almost actively discouraging customers.
Chantilly Lace ew for me
The Pretty Polly is one of my favourite races. Clearly it’s a bit of a guessing game each year but there’s something about the race I love.
I’m looking forward to this Sand Gazelle today. Gosden has won it 8 times and obviously targets his decent fillies here. This one is well-bred and a fair price.
