Mar Ras 2.40 Moon ChimesI watched the first couple stages on TNT and it was ok. Didn’t maybe have the same colour in terms of the detail around the scenic elements (although that was still present) but commentators were alright and very knowledgable.
I agree it is a fantastic event, I look forward to it more and more each year.
On the topic of books, last year they had a focus piece on the Italian cyclist Gino Bartali so I bought the book on his life story, a great read.3.00 Sandown SUPERMODEL (NB)

What they have been through is impossible to comprehend and I am not ashamed to admit the tears were rolling down my cheeks as I watched it. To find the strength to go on after the shattering impact those events must have had on them both is inspiring and humbling.
I was also struck by how alike John and Amy are, not only do they share a family resemblance in looks but also in character. And what character they have shown.
Their world will never be the same but I truly hope they both somehow find peace and happiness in life’s journey.Sad news indeed. He was one of the top trainers when I was growing up and getting into the sport along with the likes of Cecil, Hern, Walwyn, O’Brien, Harwood etc.
His biography Frankincense and More by Robin Oakley is a good read if you want to find out more about him. Pretty ferocious and determined character which I think were key traits in taking him from stable lad to Arc winning trainer.
Thinking of his family and friends for whom he’ll be an irreplaceable loss.
I think greys ARE irrationally popular with the casual racing watcher, by that I mean the casual ITV Racing viewer.
The trouble with Chamberlin’s argument is that there won’t really be time for him to build a public following, unlike the chasers who build that following over a few years.
However, what you can guarantee is that ITV will milk every excruciating ounce of what they mistakenly think is the public’s mass affection for the horse.
Next time he runs watch at your peril.Well done to the podium three and to Chestnut in particular (I’ve messaged you about your prize Chestnut).
Great tipping everyone and looking forward to the next one.
Thanks above all to the Raymos – very, very much appreciated by all
That is a staggering amount SC. And put into perspective by that Levy figure.
If owners were liable for the lifetime cost of funding retirement for an ex-racehorse (£142k average total cost estimate according to this) most of the sales could shut up shop as nobody would be buying anything.

Great scoring yesterday by the leader – well done Gladiateur.
I hope the handicapper has been watching my performance here – I might slip down the weightsfor the Ebor meeting!
A few Hail Marys today to try to get into the top half at least.

The BBC is run by people who’d just love it if they were dictators and could impose their (dubious) standards and morals on the rest of us.
‘Appleby didn’t run him because he couldn’t face him getting beaten.’
Really? You honestly think that?
I’d imagine they pulled the horse out because of ground concerns (real or imagined) to protect him from a potentially tough race which may have left a mark. Godolphin and Appleby are not overly scared/protective over getting one beat I don’t think. Of course, no one wants to see one beat but they’ve not exactly shirked over the years.
