I agree with you entirely Ian. Certainly on points 1 and 2.
However , I hate this contrived , twee nonsense , of team racing , so I will neither be betting on it , or even watching it.
Bah humbug

I think that we need to be careful what we wish for when it comes to thw whip /pro-cush in racing.
In my view , there is simply no point in harkening back to rides given by Piggott in the last century , and drawing the metaphorical wagons round in a circle. That ride in particular , is no example on which to hang our hats , was decidedly questionable at the time , and society is now in a much different place to then.
Arguments relating to racehorses being bred to race , whilst accurate , also need to be badged appropriately ,as they are not bred to suffer animal abuse.
If we do not deal with this issue appropriately , we will have no sport in the form of horse racing in the future.
The rules (whatever they may be , going forwards) need to be explained to the general
public , and need to be complied with. The only way forward is to remove the temptation to commit the perceived abuse by automatically disqualifying the horse when the jockey breaks the rules.
I’ll put my tin hat on !.I didn’t attend the meeting last night , but decided I would give it a try on Sky , and tried to do so with an open mind.
The plusses (and there were few) , were that the prizemoney semmed to be okay , particularly in one race , and the admission prices were apparently reduced.
The rest of it was utterly atrocious.
The whole concept of team racing is contrived nonsense , with certain teams not even represented in some races. This was emphasised still further when Hayley Turner was interviewed and even admitted to not knowing who her team mates were.
The presenters tried their best to try and promote this rubbish , but their “happy clapper” style simpy seemed to make the whole thing worse. This was topped off by some having to wear promotional baseball caps that presumably related to the “teams” involved , and the constant fawning over Dettori , in has capacity as some form of player / captain.
I dislike the Shergar Cup , but racing has somehow managed to come up with something much , much worse.July 8, 2023 at 20:35 in reply to: William Buick is the most overrated jockey of my lifetime #1654808I do partly agree with GM 23 , in that Buick is undoubtedly overrated , and overhyped by the press (despite being one of the top jockeys).
However , there are a number of others who receive similar levels of hyperbole , notably Frankie Dettori and Hollie Doyle.
In my view , the best jockeys currently riding in GB , in no particular order (only using the evidence of my own eyes) , are Oisin Murphy , Ryan Moore , Tom Marquand and James Doyle.I agree entirely CAS.
The likes of Shoemark , Hollie Doyle and Queally gave him far too much leeway.
You could perhaps understand it , if it was an inexperienced jockey , or a horse from an insignificant stable .
However it was Moore , for the Gosden’s , on a Galileo , for majorly significant owners.July 5, 2023 at 20:33 in reply to: Did Lord Cork Of All Star not watch the 5.28 at Worcester, then? #1654460Young Kitts has previously been involved in another contentious ride , namely , on Jet of Dreams at Warwick in May. On that occaision , a 14 day ban was handed out by the stewards. On that day Warren Greatrex , the horse’s trainer , appeared to disagree with the stewards decision.

July 5, 2023 at 19:28 in reply to: Did Lord Cork Of All Star not watch the 5.28 at Worcester, then? #1654450Just had a brief look on the BHA website , and although there was an enquiry , the stewards don’t seem to have considered the running or riding of Hillsin.
July 5, 2023 at 19:08 in reply to: Did Lord Cork Of All Star not watch the 5.28 at Worcester, then? #1654448I can’t wait to see the results over any enquiry into this performance and / or ride.
I don’t know if the jockey had some form of injury , but the ride given , was perplexing to say the least.
The horse appeared to be absolutely cantering throughout , and even after jumping the last , was given absolutely no assistance from the saddle , in my opinion.I am thoroughly tired of his never ending , attention seeking , Elton John retirement tour.
Unfortunately the ever sycophantic , never investigative , fawning racing media , lap this up.
Thankfully , at the end of the season , it should be over.
Until the boyband – like “reunion” tour materialises !!.Jockeys lie all the time and always have done so in stewards enquiries, usually in an attempt to either keep or get a race. Their involvement in any enquiry should be minimal and regarding the result of a race, none.
Respectfully , I take your point Yeats.
However , in any form of quasi judicial forum , if your “evidence” is clearly unreliable / false , then any future interactions are inevitably , and understandably , likely to be viewed appropiately with cynicism.I have only just had the chance to view this race.
There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever in my mind that she rode a finish a circuit too soon.
Mistakes happen , and she should have admitted her error and received the appropriate punishment.
Her explanation to the stewards beggars belief , and in my view is tantamount to bare faced lying.
I am glad that the IHRB are to investigate it further , and would hope that her punishment is increased as appropriate for her conduct in front of the stewards. The major merit in such affordability rules is that they may give the authorities more control over potential money laundering by organised crime. If “individuals” are regularly losing substantial sums of money they either have a possible gambling problem , or alternatively they don’t really care how much they are losing as the portion that they recoup via their wins can be legitimised.
That said , are there any proposals to have such checks over FOBTs , or casino gaming ?.TC – I would respectfully suggest that no forum owner / moderator would encourage or countenance criminal activity , despite what appears to have occured in this yard.
Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion but just a couple of observations on your views TC.
1) What happens when the young person doesn’t have anyone capable of going down to the yard to intervene on their behalf ?
2) If an intervention occurs , as you outline , and results in a criminal conviction e.g. assault , GBH etc., then who will ensure that future instances of bullying are dealt with appropriately ?Absolutely disgusting behaviour that both individuals should be thoroughly ashamed of.
Anyone who tries to defend this needs to have give their head a good wobble.
Before I am accused of being a “snowflake” , I spent almost 40 years in law enforcement , and have seen almost every form of reprehensible behaviour in that time.Obviously , this is a matter of personal preference.
Not being a lover of the Grand National itself , I think that the Thursday is the best day of the whole meeting.
Overall I think that Aintree generally suffers as many of the best horses bypass the meeting , and instead target Cheltenham and Punchestown.
Although I am far more likely to attend Aintree than Cheltenham due to it’s proximity , my personal view is that the overall races at Cheltenham are far superior. - AuthorPosts
