You’re absolutely right, Chestnut, I just get the impression he confuses his opinion at his website with fact sometimes, that’s all.

I’m absolutely fine with him losing a couple of teeth.
But losing his ability to provide for his own family in the trade he’s been in for as long as I can remember for the rest of his life is something that’s totally disproportionate.
One of them gives him a short sharp painful shock which hurts him alone. The other is an enormous rupture of his very livelihood which provides a means to be able to provide food/shelter for his entire family and x amount of horses.
A smack in the mouth also serves as a reminder to him that if he upsets someone emotionally there’s a potential for physical harm to be inflicted upon him. You’re almost doing him a favour!
While I must admit it doesn’t seem to have occurred to either Brisland or Degnan that the young people they were found to have mistreated might have vengeful family, I’d suggest, TC, that a heavy fine is sufficient without the need for any of the unsolicited free private dental treatment you allude to.
As stated, there’s always the additional hardships Brisland might suffer anyway – owners taking horses away etc.

Cormack15: your approach is spot on. Education is the key to rehabilitation.
Tizzards: vigilantism rather than reform through the Rules of Racing … what a great idea that would definitely work if extrapolated.
Also, have you ever got on a known nutter of a horse after breaking your jaw / having a serious injury? If not then don’t think you’re qualified to comment on that aspect.
