Bowen is a vastly talented jockey , and great at keeping struggling horses in contention.
However those thinking that simply changing stable jockeys will take Elliot past Mullins are simply fooling themselves.
Willie is in a league of his own , and no jockey on earth will change that , in my opinion.Didn’t / couldn’t watch today.
Watched it later , after hearing he was okay.
The horse owes nobody anything.
He may improve his hurdling , with appropriate reschooling , but it is never going to be the way he was.
As he has lost that sublime advantage , he will never be the horse that he was.
It is not worth risking him anymore.
For his sake , please retire him before something terrible happens to him.
He deserves a happy retirement !.I find the Racing League , even more aggravating than the Shergar Cup (at least the latter is only one day a year).
It will be a shame if the prizemoney “disappears” as that was at least laudable for the quality of the events , and most of the horses running.
It was just such contrived , over hyped nonsense.
Josh and Alex tried their hardest to whip up the interest , but even that seemed totally
forced , and false.
The idea of Friday Night live fills me with horror , of hordes of drunken , coked up , yobs , fighting at racecourses throughout the land.
I know that I am nowhere near the target age demographic , as I still wear socks !!£15,000 on offer at Sandown on Saturday. 2 runners only !
Then trainers bleat about no opportunities.
Why force novices to run in handicaps when there is no need ?Oops. Spelling mistake. Apologies re the title.
Supremely talented trainer. Nothing but admiration for the man.
There’s an awful lot of much better jockeys than her that have lost retainers , been sacked by trainers , owners etc. ( some correctly , some unfairly) , over the years.
I don’t recollect many of them needing to take time off to rest and reflect mate. I would suggest that would be professional suicide.
I believe that she has a contract in Hong Kong over the winter , anyway.
She is riding poorly in my opinion , but hopefully her G3 winner for Watson , on the all weather at Dundalk today will give her something of a boost.
If she loses that job , she will undoubtedly become a gaff track, jobbing jockey.Agree that Alsagar’s current crop are not particularly good v31. However Hollie is hardly showing him what he is missing , as I think that she has ridden 1 winner from her last 40 rides. It is the owners prerogative to choose his jockey , and not all choose wisely , all the time – even Piggott and Eddery got jocked off in the past (not meaning to compare Hollie to those two greats).
Thank you for these updates , and for all your hard work.
This is both interesting , and informative.I would respectfully suggest Value31 , that Zgharta is not a particularly good example to illustrate your point (in my view).
Hollie gave that a particularly poor ride at Goodwood , repeatedly being stopped in the closing stages. I know that can happen to the best of jockeys too.
Despite being a beaten favourite at York , I think that the horse ran right up to it’s best under Murphy.Top jockey and trainer during a great era of racing.
Loved betting Geoff and Bruce Hobbs together.
A sad loss , and my thoughts go out to his family and friends.I think that you and I are both largely in agreement LD73 , perhaps it was my clumsy use of the wording that was initially used.
I agree with you to a certain extent.
However , I would still maintain that she is nowhere near as good as her earlier hype , and that was my previous point.
I accept that all jockeys make mistakes , but hers seem to be coming more often . Have a look at the 7.40 and 8.10 at Wolverhampton tonight.
She regularly misses the break , seems to find trouble in getting out of pockets , and also seems to get “carted” i.e. can’t seem to settle a horse.
Each to their own , I suppose. For an owner such as him , unless he is expanding , I would say that he is better off using the best available.
That said , he may be extending his stock , if Teddy Grimthorpe is on the team , as we all know from Juddmonte..
Unfortunately , (and I know people won’t like this) Hollie is an average jockey.
The earlier calls in the press for her to be given major stable jockey roles were simply PC correctness, thereby raising the media profile of racing , and not based on her abilityI wish him every success.
It could have been very different for him , as he has talent , but circumstances conspired against him here.Great trainer and great man.
I was allowed to meet and pat both the greats i.e. Night Nurse and Sea Pigeon as a birthday present as a youth.
Only thing I can’t forgive him for , was allowing Little Owl to prevent Night Nurse winning the Gold Cup.
Only joking.
May you rest in peace , and my condolences to you and yours.Well done to the fella.
Shocking amount of abuse he has apparently received on social media.
Really hope that his career kicks on now.- AuthorPosts
